History[edit]
Creation[edit]
The Second Taurian Lancers were formed after the successful actions of the First Taurian Lancers impressed the Taurian Defense Force command enough to repeat the unit experiment. By 3042, a regiment of light to medium weight 'Mechs had been assembled and paired with a regiment of heavy and assault weight tanks (Heavy LRM Carriers). The unit's symbol was an armored bull with starbursts at the tips of his horns set over interlocking circles.[1]
Bromhead Massacre[edit]
The new unit had little time to perfect/acquire a singular set of tactics, but was employed as a defensive unit until August 3067, when they were sent to attack the Federated Suns planet of Bromhead. That world was the base of the mercenary unit Hansen's Roughriders, but almost all their forces weren't on planet. However, the remaining Roughriders' combatants inflicted several embarrassing defeats against the attacking Lancers, delaying them for two entire days, before the incensed Taurians managed to overrun the Roughriders' main base. Then, the Lancers' Word of Blake liaison opened fire upon what he called enemy combatants attempting to escape, and the rest of the Lancers followed suit. When the shootout ended, the Lancers uncovered, horrified, than they've unwillingly murdered almost all the mercenaries' dependants, thousands of them. That atrocity was eventually called the Bromhead Massacre.[2]
Post Bromhead and Destruction[edit]
The Second Lancers were deeply affected by the Massacre, but their superiors covered up the entire incident. Several Lancers committed suicide after the act. Two years later, the bulk of the Lancers launched a raid on Midale in February of 3070, the new base of Hansen's Roughriders. The mercenaries had a vendetta against the Concordat for the Massacre, and were obsessed with revenge, having already annihilated two Taurian units, one real and another of pirates posing as taurians. When the Lancers landed, the Roughriders were awaiting them. While almost all the Lancers were far away from their landing zone, the Roughriders launched a massive attack against it, crippling or capturing all the taurian DropShips. Only a handful of the Taurian defenders, the technicians and the DropShips' crews, were taken alive.[3]
The bulk of the Lancers, now stranded on Midale, were later attacked by the Roughriders, which gave them no quarter. Informed of the DropShips' loss, colonel Murant ordered all his forces to retreat to the landing zone, blowning a bridge to delay the attackers. The mercenaries didn't last to catch them around the DropShips. The battle was a total slaughter. The AFFS liaisons only managed to save four Lancers' MechWarriors. All others, including colonel Murant, were killed.[4]
The 2nd Taurian survivors which didn't go to their final mision on Midale were folded into a replacement formation, the Fourth Taurian Lancers, with aid from the Word of Blake... but they didn't last long: when the new unit had another encounter with the bloodthirsty Hansen Roughriders on Brusett, on early 3075, they were wiped too.[5]
