Captain Seymore Hares was a MechWarrior who served in the Outworlds Alliance-aligned Thermo Police during the thirty-first century.[2]

History[edit]

Thermo Police[edit]

A daring MechWarrior in his youth, following his promotion to command of the Thermo Police in the late 3040s, Hares left behind battlefield heroics for administrative acumen. Becoming a skilled diplomat, knowledgeable in the laws and customs of dozens of remote communities within the Outworlds Wastes, he was successful at maintaining the peace between the numerous military and paramilitary officials he worked alongside.

He did however have frustrations, including MechWarriors who constantly left the residue of Candied Bacon all of their 'Mechs' controls, requiring countless Astech labor hours to clean.[3]

Ki Zoban[edit]

As commander of the Police, Hares generally operated it similar to a typical mercenary unit, being assigned to a constant string of missions by the Alliance Ground Defense Arm. These included capturing the violent arms dealer Yamamura Tazu, from his heavily armed bunker on the otherwise abandoned world of Ki Zoban, from where he had been stirring up tensions between Federated Suns miners and Draconis Combine aerospace engineers who were operating in Alliance space.[4]

Dneiper[edit]

Another notable mission was on Dneiper, when during an assignment to train the local militia training in anti-pirate tactics, Antallos-based bandits pretending to be Omniss cultists took hostages from a local university athletics rally and threatened to execute them if the planet wasn’t cleared of military hardware. Captain Hares sought to begin negotiations with the hostage takers, but when his subordinate Lieutenant Thomas Cable discovered the ruse, he rescued three young civilians despite being ordered to stand down by Hares. For disobeying his orders, despite his success, Hares demoted Cable to sergeant.[4]

First Long Road Legion[edit]

Following the launch of President Mitchell Avellar's Long Road initiatives, Avellar requested Hares merge the Police into the Alliance Ground Defense Arm, which Hares was happy to accept. Leaving the Thermo Police themselves in command of Thomas Cable sometime after 3058, Hares joined the other members of the Police who accepted Avellar's offer, becoming the commander of the First Long Road Legion.[1][2]

As the Chairman of the First Long Road Legion, in October 3067 Hares was travelling with his unit to Prinis Prime for training maneuvers, with the aim of remedy deficiencies which had become noticeable during recent defeats. During this training deployment however, the capital city Maqqavelwan was raided by the Antallos based Thanos' Terribles, who used local collaborators to rob the local gem market. Hares was able to use two of his battalions to chase the pirates off the world, they still managed to escape after destroying two tank companies.[5]

BattleMech[edit]

Seymore Hares was known to have piloted a TDR-5S Thunderbolt BattleMech.[2]
