System Information

The Slewis system was home to at least one habitable world and, as of 3145, was an independent system in the Periphery located close to the borders of the Lyran Commonwealth, Rim Collection and Rim Territories.[1][2]

System Description[edit]

The Slewis system is located near the Kerman and Rosetta systems.[3][4]

System History[edit]

The Slewis system had either been colonized by the Rim Worlds Republic by the end of the Age of War, or was an already-inhabited system that was incorporated into the Timbuktu Province of the Republic during this era.[5][6]

Planetary History[edit]

Reunification War[edit]

In 2575, one of the closing years of the Age of War, civil war erupted in the Rim Worlds Republic, with the factions polarized around those loyal to First Consul Gregory Amaris and those loyal to the Rift Republican Army and the Rim Provisional Government.[37]

The Star League eventually decided to intervene in the civil war in support of Gregory Amaris, and in 2579 assembled Task Force MAILED FIST to help secure Amaris' control over the Rim Worlds Republic. A multinational force headed by the Star League Defense Force, Task Force MAILED FIST was responsible for executing Operation MAILED FIST, the name given to the military intervention. The first wave of attacks focused on securing significant worlds near Apollo,[38] until a destructive raid on Alarion by the Fourth Amaris Fusiliers in retaliation prompted the SLDF to alter its initial strategy for the campaign, the focus shifted to reducing Rim Worlds Army concentrations throughout the Republic and the capture of key worlds.[39]

In late 2584 the SLDF changed tactics again; a number of major RWA units had been destroyed or captured, and the focus for the campaign shifted to capturing worlds of strategic importance, but the campaign was slowed by the greatly increased resistance offered by the RWA and local civilian populations, prompted by atrocities performed by the Draconis Auxiliary Corps when they captured Nightwish in mid-2584.[40]

Duke Narinder Selaj of Battle Group Timbuktu assigned three regiments from the Second Marik Auxiliary Corps - the Second Defenders of Andurien, the Second Regulan Hussars and the Second Brigade of the Fusiliers of Oriente - to the conquest of Slewis in 2590.[41] Despite the active and hostile resistance faced on many worlds, the conquest of Slewis was remarkably easy for the FWLM forces; a largely agrarian world with an economy based around agriculture and logging, the leadership on Slewis had little interest in the civil war, and when the Marik forces landed in May the local leadership simply acknowledged the presence of the new garrisons and calmly continued their farming and logging operations.[42]

Slewis was the last world in the Timbuktu Province to be conquered by the SLDF; by the time the FWLM forces came to leave Slewis in 2593 the only casualties they had taken were as a result of hunting accidents.[42]

Dark Age[edit]

The efforts to claim Hunter's Paradise and the colonization of Able's Glory plunged the Rim Collection into deep debt. In protest, Slewis and Caldarium broke away from the Rim Collection. However, the long-term benefits of the colonization efforts outweighed the loss of the two systems.[43]
