History[edit]
Star Captain Splido credited the bulk of his successes as a warrior to the Gauss rifle and fought a Trial of Possession against his own Star Colonel for one of the new, Gauss-heavy Crucible BattleMechs assigned to Beta Galaxy's forces. During the Battle of Skye, Splido spearheaded a pincer movement that lead to the withdrawal of Clan Jade Falcon's 124th Striker Cluster and he accounted for five enemy 'Mechs before running out of ammunition. Although the Gauss rifle was largely considered ineffective in the tight confines of an urban environment, Splido took considerable joy from being close enough to hear his shots hit their targets and would engage in close combat with enemy machines.[1]
