Sterope is an industrial world located in the rimward Periphery. For most of its time, the system was a member of the Taurian Concordat where it was sometimes referred to as "New Taurus" due to its mining and weapons manufacturing abilities. The planet is home to Sterope Defense Industries as well as a corporate unit of Taurus Territorial Industries.

Planetary History[edit]

Succession Wars Era[edit]

The planet was settled with colonization efforts of the Concordat by twenty-sixth century.[41]

By 3025, Sterope had become one of major weapons manufactures outside the Hyades Cluster. Its industry is a vital cog in the Taurian defense industry. However, the planet was not assigned a major frontline BattleMech force. The planetary nobility used their own funds to raise a regiment of troops, which was given name of Noble's Regiments. These paramilitary forces, man series of large static defense fortifications which were situated around various and population complexes on the planet. Each of these battalion of infantry were at the command of regional nobility who funded them. Using strategy holding out against powerful enemy until reinforcements can arrive.[2]

Pre-Jihad[edit]

In early 3060s, it was suspected that the Word of Blake had established a number of instructional training camps for extremist Far Lookers factions near Sterope's asteroid fields.[42]

The Jihad[edit]

The mercenary unit Hansen's Roughriders raided Sterope on 21 November 3075, one of a number of Concordat worlds struck by the Roughriders as part of a Federated Suns counteroffensive following the second invasion of the Federated Suns. Unlike other raids conducted by the Roughriders during 3075, the Roughriders left the factories on Sterope intact, although they did plunder the Sterope Defense Industries facilities before leaving the planet.[43][44] The military industries on Sterope would suffer heavy damage in later years, and as of 3081 had yet to return to full production.[45]
