The Sherwood Striped House Grunter is an arboreal mammal-analogue native to Sherwood.[1]

Description[edit]

In common with the other life forms that evolved on Sherwood, the Grunter resembles a Terran starfish, with five short, thick limb-heads attached to a central body. Herbivorous mammal analogues, the Grunters were quickly adopted by human colonists on Sherwood as a means of helping keep the abundant vines and vegetation found on Sherwood from engulfing their properties, but the combination of the Grunter's playful manner and soft, striped fur in a variety of colors and patterns saw them become popular pets.[1]

Grunters are typically encountered in small family groups consisting of a mated pair and their young. A Grunter that feels threatened or is startled by a person or creature they are unfamiliar with responds by inhaling through the mouth located on each limb-head, puffing those limb-heads up, and then expelling the air in a series of loud grunting noises that gave the Grunter its name. This makes Grunters useful as guard animals, helping them to be adopted by many to help secure locations. The local planetary militia command known as Tyler's Terrors were known for keeping Grunters as pets, to help warn them of unexpected attacks. In addition to the characteristic grunting, Grunters can also use the melanocyte cells in their skin to alter the color of their stripes, creating strobing patterns that acted as a warning to other Grunters.[1]
