Description[edit]

The Suffren-class destroyer was among the first generation of post–Clan Invasion WarShips, and ComStar's first new WarShip design since the Dante in 2941.

The Suffren Project was initiated after the Battle of Tukayyid and the subsequent Reformation. While the Com Guards had a large array of old SLDF WarShips, Precentor Martial Anastasius Focht desired a vessel which would be unfamiliar to the Clan toumans. The project lacked the pace of comparable Successor State WarShip programs because of these existing vessels.[1]

Similar to that used by the Precentor Martial to coordinate the fighting on Tukayyid, virtual reality technology discovered and resolved design flaws while awaiting the Titan Yards to be upgraded to produce the most modern design possible. Such artificial WarShip enactments allowed ComStar to skip the expensive prototype stage of the class.[1]

The vessel's use of such materials as ferro-aluminum armor and double heat sinks marked the Suffren as the height of advanced tech, capable of unleashing and weathering impressive nose and broadside barrages, and included a lithium-fusion battery as standard.

While expected in 3058, issues delayed the introduction of the class until the early 3060s. Ultimately, only two examples were constructed prior to the loss of the Titan Yards to the Word of Blake in late 3061.[4][5]

Both vessels were likely lost during Case White, the disastrous ComStar attack on Terra at the opening of the Jihad. One was partially restored by the Word of Blake, only to be destroyed above Titan, and the class abandoned.[6][7]

Armament[edit]

The Suffren featured an arsenal of a fairly even mix of conventional anti-aerospace and capital class weaponry. The nose bays featured two NAC/40s and a trio of heavy naval PPCs, twin Gauss rifles, eight ER large lasers, two Artemis IV FCS enhanced LRM-20s and six small pulse lasers for point defense, the aft bays mirroring the nose save for excluding the naval PPCs. The fore and aft angles featured three naval laser 45s, two ER, and three standard large lasers each, with twin NAC/20s, a medium naval PPC, double LRM-20s and six point defense small pulse lasers mounted in each broadside.

Cargo[edit]

Beyond its four DropShip capacity and sizable cargo stores, the Suffren was designed to carry eight small craft and a full space marine Level II, allowing the destroyer to repel boarding attempts on itself or seize control of any non-Clan vessels with ease.

  • Bay 1: Small Craft (8), 1 door
  • Bay 2: Cargo (91,508.5 tons), 1 door
