The Sverdlovsk system was the location of at least one habitable world and as of 3151 was located in the New Samarkand Prefecture of the New Samarkand Military District within the Draconis Combine.[1]

Alliance of Galedon[edit]

An independent world at the turn of the twenty-fourth century, Sverdlovsk was contacted by Shiro Kurita, the Director of the newly created Alliance of Galedon, as part of his plan to expand his fledgling state and neutralize the rival Ozawa Mercantile Association. Unlike nearby Dnepropetrovsk, Sverdlovsk rejected Kurita's membership offer and chose to remain neutral in the Galedon-OMA conflict.[2]

After hostilities escalated throughout 2303, culminating in November with attacks on every known OMA facility by Kurita's forces, the Director followed up his victory by landing soldiers on Sverdlovsk. On the receiving end of the first full-scale interstellar invasion in history, Sverdlovsk was completely unprepared. Although the Alliance of Galedon force numbered barely fifty thousand troops, they were an organized and well-equipped army that easily swept aside the peacekeepers with small arms and unarmed civilian mobs who opposed them. In a matter of weeks Sverdlovsk's leaders had capitulated and sworn allegiance to Director Kurita, who publicly claimed to have other, equally large, armies ready to attack any other world opposed to him. In reality, the Alliance force on Sverdlovsk was all he had but no other world in the region could match Kurita's military might or call his bluff.[40][41]
