Talk:Joshua Steiner-Davion

Clone?[edit]

Without reading the source material myself, Is Joshua a clone or something else? I admit I am a little uncomfortable at having him listed as one of Hanse Davions children without further information. --Dmon (talk) 01:57, 23 May 2021 (EDT)

From the source material - "It's not cloning per se; the science isn't advanced enough just yet. But just as the Capellans took your memories and switched out medical records, so they also took a bit of you: blood, skin, maybe bone." So basically a test tube baby using genetic material from Hanse Davion and Katrina Steiner. So I suppose we should treat it the same as say Vlad Ward / Victor Steiner-Davion? Modified Joshua's parentage to gene-parents to bring it in line with Alaric's description. I'm not sure how or if we should modify the listing on the Hanse page. Gene-parents is a Clan term of course, and the offspring in relation to the gene-parents is referred to as "sibspring" but that doesn't seem appropriate to use outside of the Clan culture (Way of the Clans Ch. 13). Using Alric as our precident, we currently have him listed on Katrinas article as her child but not on Victors, so I think we need to figure out something that we can apply to both Alric and Joshua (and any future characters with not-quite-clan but also not conventional parentage).
Perhaps we could place a limit on it based on who had knowledge of the decantation. "Katrina" certainly knew about Alaric but I believe Victor was in the dark. Likewise Hanse discovered this plot but there's no indication he ever told Katrina or Melissa about it. Joshua is not currently listed on Katrina's page, or as siblings to any of the other S-DsMahiMahi (talk) 12:14, 23 May 2021 (EDT)
I agree that using clan terminology feels wrong in this case at least because none of the characters in the plot know about the Clans yet.--Dmon (talk) 11:54, 23 May 2021 (EDT)
I want to revisit this as I am still not happy with how it is presented across the wiki.--Dmon (talk) 21:21, 5 March 2022 (EST)
