Combat vs. Support[edit]

2024/07/17: Can something be duel tagged as Combat and Support? Because a lot of these are. see (https://www.sarna.net/wiki/BattleMech_Recovery_Vehicle) for an example.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.91.105.18 (talkcontribs)

I think this is a game rules issue, not an in-universe distinction of role. "Support" vehicles have different construction rules from "combat" vehicles, and a given vehicle can only be designed as a support or combat vehicle accordingly. Basically the same thing as with WarShips - anything with a Compact KF core is built and classified as a "WarShip" under the construction rules, even when it is a transport vessel, non-combatant or if you chose to install no weapons at all. At some point I intend to clear out the support vehicles from the wiki as it is a rules thing... And we are slowly going rules free. There will likely be some kind of discussion at the time about something a bit more lorish, maybe military vehicles and civilian.--Dmon (talk) 16:48, 17 July 2024 (EDT)
Beyond being the term for the vehicles it covers, it is absolutely an in-universe term for the family of things it covers - see, among other sources, TechManual pages 111-115, TRO:Irregulars pages 4 and 54, or all over in-universe parts of Vehicle Annex. --Tumult&Travail (talk) 18:33, 17 July 2024 (EDT)
