Wolf's Dragoons / Release Date[edit]

So apparently the Wolfhound was not released until 3028, but it had already appeared on Wolf's Dragoon rosters. Anyone have any info on this? ClanWolverine101 19:39, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

I found in the sourcess not a fix release date of the mech, but i think he is earlier released as 3028, hmm 3026???-3028.--Doneve 19:59, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I can't find a fixed date for the start of Wolfhound production. Daniel Allard got his in late '27 or the start of '28, after the Styx dust-up left him Dispossessed, and it's mentioned that the design was a prototype at that stage. TRO:3039 and the Warrior trilogy both confirm this. What's the source on the Dragoon roster?Citizen Erased 21:14, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
IIRC, the Dragoons and Kell Hounds tested a couple of 'Mech designs for the Commonwealth, the Wolfhound being one of them. --Scaletail 01:26, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
Like I said, the Hounds did it in 27-28. What's a source on the Dragoons doing it, though, especially since they were working for the Combine at the time? Citizen Erased 03:39, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
Wolf's Dragoons (sourcebook), in which ComStar even asks if the Dragoons breached certain aspects of their contracts with the Combine in fielding them. 07:58, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
Seems unlikely since Kell and Wolf first met at the wedding after Misery. --Neufeld 10:56, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
The most likely explanation is that the WD bought a lance or company of them to replace losses after Misery. --Neufeld 11:13, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
Unfortunately the Wolf's Dragoons sourcebook is just plain confusing on the matter. Its write-up for the Wolfhound raises the question the ComStar knows that 'Mech didn't appear prior to 3028, but they are unable to pin-point when the Dragoons got theirs which is why they wonder if Jamie Wolf violated the technology clause of the Combine contract. The Dragoon rosters include multiple mentions of Wolfhounds but unlike many of the other pilot entries it doesn't mention that these pilots drove something else prior to Misery. I'm fairly willing to write-off the Dragoon roster mentions because it also includes other impossible for Dragoons to have at the time new 'Mechs like the Hatchetman and Cataphract in similar fashion, pilot was at Misery with no mention of what they drove previously like almost every other pilot entry. Not so with the Hachetman! In Wolves on the Border, its revealed that the FedSuns tried to infiltrate an agent into the Dragoons during their IS adoptions. Their bait was that the pilot in question was using a Hachetman. WD found a way of getting the Hatchetman without actually taking the pilot, so based on the canon at the time, there is a reasonable explanation. Also, although they hadn't worked for the CC in a while, they always could have gotten a Cataphract from mercenary recruiting.
But yeah - the Wolfhound's presence is odd. Incidentally, there are references to them using the Wolfhound in significant numbers later on, just not that early. Bear in mind the Lyrans themselves rarely used the mech until later. Honestly, I was just trying to see if I could justify adding a portal category for WD under the Wolfhound. ATM, I think not? Wolfhound Variants[edit]

I really like the WLF-2X. Much better looking than the original, and has a GREAT BV for a light 'Mech.

And 'tis a pity Clan Wolf didn't put the Wolfhound IIC into production for their second-line units. LordPestilence 04:18, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
