Targeting fairy[1] or target fairy[2] is an (apparently informal) term for an item or technology that was described as a "little module that can compensate for a pilot's natural tendencies" when piloting a BattleMech, such as raising the guns if a pilot tends to shoot low.[1]
There are no game rules for this system, and it was observed to be only marginally useful at best in a real combat situation.[1] It should not be confused with a proper Targeting Computer system for 'Mechs.
As of 3010, targeting fairies were known to be used in gladiator-style mock 'Mech fights on Galatea.[1] Another application besides compensating for a pilot's weaknesses was to surreptitiously use such a module without the pilot's knowledge so that it would upset their targeting in what amounts to sabotage.[1]
