The Tau Ceti Rangers was a long-time mercenary command with origins in the breakup of the Star League Defense Force. It is unknown exactly how the two units interacted or how the history of the 1st Tau Ceti intertwines with that of the more well-documented 4th.

History[edit]
Formation[edit]
In 2764, the unit that became the 4th Tau Ceti was originally a frontline SLDF military Division known as the Eighty-first Mechanized Infantry Division. Already nicknamed the Fourth Tau Ceti Rangers, the Eighty-first served as part of the Star League's LVIII Corps within the SLDF Seventh Army. LVIII Corps was assigned to District 3 of the Capellan Confederation Military Region until it was transferred to an undisclosed district within the Periphery by 2765 in response to the Periphery Uprising. The Eighty-first fought with other SLDF forces to put down the Periphery Uprising; the Rangers suffered heavy losses during the campaign, and the SLDF chose to disband the Eighty-first in 2766. While it is unknown what happened to the survivors of the Rangers in the interim, by 2784 they had opted to enter service with the Capellan Confederation Armed Forces as mercenaries. The survivors of the Eighty-first had chosen to become mercenaries to keep the Division's traditions alive instead of being absorbed or dissolving.[1][2] Chancellor Barbara Liao would purchase their services[3] on the condition that the Lancers retained their independent command rights.[4]
The First in the Third Succession War[edit]
Noted as "soon to be disbanded" in 3007, Captain Wayne Waco resigned his commission from the First and formed his own mercenary company with 15 of the survivors: the Waco Rangers[5]
Xin Sheng[edit]
Long-employed by House Liao, the 4th took Chancellor Sun-Tzu Liao up on his offer of citizenship around 3060 and joined the Citizens' Honored Division during his campaign to absorb the St. Ives Compact and reinvigorate his realm.[6]
