The Versailles system was the location of at least one habitable world or construct and as of 2765 was located in the Markesan Operational Area of the Crucis March within the Federated Suns.[1]

System Description[edit]

Versailles is located near the Markesan and Tiskilwa systems.[1]

System History[edit]

The Versailles system was settled during the Star League era at some point after the end of the Reunification War.[1][2] Versailles vanished from maps during the First Succession War,[3][4][5] which suggests that the system had been abandoned or depopulated.

Planetary History[edit]

First Succession War[edit]

Versailles was invaded during the second half of the major invasion into the Federated Suns launched by the Draconis Combine in 2791.[11] Like other minor worlds such as Acoma, Nouveau Toulouse and Tallassee, by the end of 2795 Versailles was dying, either as a result of the damage taken during the assault or as a result of starvation and disease following the collapse of local trade and infrastructure in the region after the invasion.[11][35] Versailles wasn't liberated by the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns during the three massive counteroffensives launched between 2801 and 2818,[36] indicating that the system wasn't worth attacking or defending by that point.

The Dark Age[edit]

Interstellar Expeditions launched an exploration mission called the Jiminez Mission to explore the Versailles system in 3090, looking for evidence that the Word of Blake Hidden World known as Taussen was located in the system. This was the first mission for the Jiminez team since their expedition to Arcadia in 3088 failed to turn up any evidence of the location of Taussen; the Versailles expedition was equally fruitless, and proved that the Versailles system was devoid of any habitable planets.[37]

Notes[edit]

A comment by Herbert A. Beas II on the BattleTech forums stated that Versailles was the intended location of the hidden world of Taussen. Beas was not a line dev at the time of posting, so this revelation is not canon.[38]
