Overview[edit]
Technical Readout: 3025 Centennial Edition, calling itself Technical Readout: 3025 Centennial Commemorative Edition in the imprint and simply Technical Readout: 3025 on the cover, back cover, in the credits and in the foreword, with the explanation that it is "the definitive fifth edition of the original Technical Readout: 3025", is an updated commemorative version of the seminal Technical Readout: 3025 originally produced by by FASA in 1986. With frequent fan requests for an updated version of TRO:3025 featuring the updated Classic art introduced by Catalyst Game Labs since 2015, and noting that 2025 is the one-thousand year pre-anniversary of 3025, Catalyst would commit to commissioning the remaining art required to replicate the original as closely as possible.
In-universe, it is framed as a centennial edition by the ComStar Historical Archives in cooperation with the Republic of the Sphere from 3125 commemorating the release of the the ComStar original in 3025. The title also includes an extensive appendix of editor's notes (from an in-universe viewpoint) clarifying issues and differences between the various editions of the original book and later sources, correcting errors, and providing additional variants of the featured units. Other appendices include an essay by artist Duane Loose (who did most of the art featured in the 1986 original) and comments from others who were involved in the commemorative edition's production.
