The Tellman Bat is a flying mammal found on the world of Tellman's Mistake within the Free Worlds League.[1]
Description[edit]
When humans first colonized Tellman's Mistake, they soon encountered the bat analogues that were found everywhere on planet. Though not aggressive, they would bite in self defense or panic when confronted. The bites did little damage and caused only a little discomfort at first.
Most people bitten by the bats, experience a fever that lasts a couple days before regaining full health. In fact, more than full health returned for most. Chemicals in the bat's bite stimulate the victims' metabolism, boosting resistance to other infections. But, for a minority of recipients of the bite, their body has an allergic reaction that could turn lethal.
To combat this, Tellman bat farmers keep "herds" of these animals to "milk" for anti-venom as well as other medicinal needs. Visitors to Tellman are the most at risk from dying from contact with these animals.[1]
