History[edit]
The Walking Dead was born of crisis. On 7 March 3074, while fighting on Radstadt, some of Clan Ghost Bear's forces were caught in the radioactive discharge of a Word of Blake-launched neutron bomb. Expecting that the Blakist 43rd Shadow Division would take the opportunity to escape off-world, Zeta Galaxy Galaxy Commander Jocelyn Vong gathered a number of the radiation-poisoned soldiers for a suicide mission, a chance to die fighting instead of in a hospital bed. These soldiers, known informally as the Walking Dead, were to go through radioactive Munich to launch a surprise attack on the 43rd's DropShips. Led by the highest-ranking of the dying, Anjo Bekker, the Walking Dead successfully attacked the DropShips, allowing Ghost Bear forces to destroy all but one of them.[1]
For their success, Jocelyn pledged to establish the Walking Dead as a standing unit.[1] It is not known whether this happened, or what the formal unit's composition was.
