Thorsten Stenberg was a member of a martial family from the Draconis Combine, and the Second Sword of Light, during the late twenty-seventh and early twenty-eighth century.[1]

Thorsten had gray eyes and blond hair, which he wore in a Topknot style.[1]

Early Life[edit]
A native of Rasalhague in the Draconis Combine, Thorsten grew up at his family's manor near Reykjavik, together with his father and older brother Mikkel Stenberg. Expected by his family to join the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery, this was reinforced when his beloved elder brother Mikkel joined the Star League Defense Force, and was disowned by their father.
Leaving Rasalhague to attend Sun Zhang MechWarrior Academy, Thorsten became further radicalized against the Star League, after his brother Mikkel died in 2704 during a bandit raid while serving with the Thirty-second Infantry Division as a lieutenant on Sackville. Blaming the SLDF for Mikkel's death, Thorsten subsequently focused on being able to join the Combine's Hidden War against the Star League, hoping to earn the right to win a duel against a SLDF Gunslinger. To this end, he graduated from Sun Zhang with an emphasis on dueling, and won a number of training duels while with the First Sun Zhang Cadre.[1]

After his graduation, Thorsten married his wife Heidi Stenberg, and had three children with her.[1]
Gunslinger Duel[edit]
Identified by a tai-i within Second Sword of Light as a rising star based on his achievements with the First Sun Zhang Cadre, Thorsten eventually joined that unit, and as a tai-i on Luthien in April 2722 was finally allowed to challenge a Gunslinger from the 131st Royal Mechanized Infantry Division who were resident on that world. Resigning his commission to become a Ronin, and in receipt of a promise his family would receive one million Star League dollars no matter the result, Thorsten selected Captain Jia Lin Kwan as his opponent. Issuing his challenge on 7 April 2722 near Fort Luthien, he was answered by Captain Kwan in her Champion BattleMech, who Thorsten was able to overcome in the ensuing duel.[1]
