Trillian Steiner-Davion was an Archon of the Lyran Commonwealth and the granddaughter of Peter Steiner-Davion.
History[edit]
Early life[edit]
Trillian's parents died when she was a young girl; having no immediate family she was raised by her uncle Andrew Steiner along with her cousin Melissa. Unlike her relatives who showed a negative attitude towards Devlin Stone and his Republic, Trillian carried on her parent's positive attitude towards the young new nation.[2][4]
Diplomat[edit]
Due to how close Trillian and Melissa were growing up, when the throne of the Lyran Commonwealth was inherited by Melissa, she quickly made Trillian her chief diplomat. Trillian's task transformed into the troubleshooter who traveled from one corner of the Lyran realm to the other in order to appease lesser nobles and to put out any political fires that may have started. Her travels increased exponentially once the HPG network crashed.[2]
After the fall of interstellar communication, Trillian was able to accomplish three tasks that put her into the spotlight. First, in 3134 she met with her distant cousin, Jasek Kelswa-Steiner, and was able to give him military support for the defense of Skye against the Clan Jade Falcon desant into the Republic's Prefecture IX. Second, she was the messenger for Melissa Steiner to Clan Wolf-in-Exile in order to get the services of Clan Wolf in 3136. Third, she was a part of Operation HAMMERFALL when she was able to broker the surrender of the Duchy of Tamarind-Abbey.[2]
Archon[edit]
Growing up outside the line of succession for the throne, Trillian believed that she would never have to worry about ruling. That changed when her cousin made it clear that she wanted Trillian to be the next Archon of the Commonwealth. Trillian attained the title when her cousin sacrificed her life to ensure that Trillian and rest of the Lyran leadership were able to escape during the Clan Wolf invasion of Tharkad.[5] The leadership of the Lyran military would have preferred to have one of their own installed as Archon, but the Estates-General thwarted any moves toward this when Trillian was confirmed as Melissa's heir.[6]
Trillian was made aware by Loki that Malvina Hazen was planning to invade the strategically vital factory world Hesperus II in September 3144. Knowing that she lacked the forces to repulse the Falcons, Trillian instead chose to leak Hazen's plans to Alaric Ward, correctly guessing that the Wolf Empire would launch their own strike at Hesperus. Trillian then stealthily withdrew as many units of the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces from the world as she could without alerting her enemies or her hired mercenaries that she intended the defense to fail. As expected, the Wolves and Falcons began fighting each other on Hesperus. LCAF command however became mutinous at this seeming abandonment of Trillian's duty, with only intervention by Roderick Steiner preventing a coup and the installation of a military junta on Tharkad. The LCAF's recapture of Hesperus once both Clans had exhausted themselves bought Trillian more time on the throne,[7] but she remained highly unpopular with her generals.[2]
Once it became clear that the Falcons had abandoned their occupation zone as their touman flocked to Terra, Trillian ordered the LIC to commence Operation BLACK ICE, an effort to trigger insurrections and uprisings on the various recently lost Lyran worlds in that direction. Trillian chose this option over invasion at the advice of her General of the Armies, who believed that the risk of the Falcons emerging as the ilClan made triggering a renewed war unwise. The Wolves had also largely withdrawn from their Empire, but Trillian was unwilling to risk war on two fronts, and preferred to antagonize the clan she felt less able to reason with.[8]
