The Twelfth Heavy Assault Regiment was a part of the Star League Defense Force Regular Army before entering service as a mercenary unit following the Star League Civil War.

Star League[edit]
In 2764, the unit was assigned as part of XXI Corps, First Army to the Terran Military Region.[1] The Twelfth had been stationed on Al Na'ir since 2761 while waiting for reassignment that never came.[2]
The Twelfth was transferred to District 1 of the Lyran Commonwealth Military Region in 2765 at the onset of the New Vandenberg Uprising.[1] The unit survived the Hegemony Campaign and signed on as a mercenary unit with Lyran Commonwealth in 2782.[1][3][4]
Mercenary[edit]
The regiment was stationed on Alkalurops in 2786.[5] In 2791, they supported the Second Lyran Guards in their assault on Radostov, destroying the Fourteenth Bolan Defenders in the fighting. Still in support of the Second, they captured the planet of Herzberg in 2801 and Finsterwalde in 2803 alongside the Eleventh Arcturan Guards. Supporting the Eleventh, they recaptured Radostov in 2808.[6] The Twelfth then settled into a garrison posting on the planet and was still in place in 2821.[5]
Regaining twenty percent of their strength during the lull between the First and Second Succession Wars, by 2830 the Twelfth Heavy Assault Regiment had been redeployed to garrison Zollikofen. By the end of Second Succession War just over thirty years later, the unit had suffered heavy losses, battered down to a third of their regimental strength. Licking their wounds, in 2864 the Twelfth Heavy Assault Regiment remained stationed on Zollikofen.[7]

- As an SLDF Heavy Assault regiment, each battalion of the Twelfth would have been primarily composed of three companies of heavy to assault BattleMechs with a fourth company of attached artillery.[9][10]
