The Twenty-ninth Mechanized Infantry Division was a part of the Star League Defense Force Regular Army.

History[edit]

In 2764 the unit was stationed on Morges,[3] assigned as part of II Corps, Twelfth Army to District 2 of the Lyran Commonwealth Military Region.[4] The Twenty-ninth was considered a laid-back unit in a corps with fairly high standards.[2]

When the Periphery Uprising erupted in 2765, the Twenty-ninth was redeployed to the Periphery and took losses heavy enough to cause them to be disbanded the following year. Although the division ceased to exist as a unit at this point, elements of the Twenty-ninth chose to join the Draconis Combine.[4] Totaling a regiment in size, the remnants of the former Twenty-ninth entered service with the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery in 2782 as the Twenty-fourth Dieron Regulars.[1]

Officers[edit]

Tactics[edit]

The Mechanized Infantry divisions of the Star League were used offensively to exploit gaps in the enemy front created by the BattleMech divisions. They also bore the brunt of defensive actions.[5]

As of 2764, the Twenty-ninth had perfected its craft as a defensive unit.[2]

Composition History[edit]

The Division comprised two brigades of mechanized infantry and a single BattleMech brigade. Also attached was a ground aero wing.[5]
