History[edit]

Star League Era[edit]

Active during the Star League era, the Twenty-sixth Avalon Hussars fought off a large pirate raid on Robsart in 2764. The Twenty-sixth was still rebuilding a year later, in large part from salvaged equipment belonging to the raiders - equipment of a distinctly Taurian nature.[2]

Succession Wars[edit]

The Twenty-sixth was active throughout the First Succession War, and by the end of the war was operating at a combat strength half a regiment short of its prewar strength.[3] During the interwar period the Twenty-sixth rebuilt to close to its original strength.[1]

In mid-2828 Capellan Confederation Armed Forces units attacked Mendham, with the First Centauri Guards and Sixth St. Ives Lancers surprising both the Twenty-sixth and the other major defending unit, the Fourteenth Syrtis Fusiliers. Despite their initial surprise at the attack, which was part of Operation CELT - an offensive aimed at recapturing Chesterton - the two AFFS units fought back hard, making a number of attempts to crush the CCAF landing zone at Munnings. Although the two AFFS regiments couldn't overwhelm the entrenched forces in the landing zone, they did prevent the Guards and Sentinels from breaking out, and all four units were battered by the time the CCAF units withdrew in late June.[4]

The Twenty-sixth was ultimately one of the casualties of the Second Succession War - one of seven Avalon Hussars regiments to be destroyed during the conflict.[1]

Tactics[edit]

During the Star League era all of the Avalon Hussars were required to focus on being both flexible and mobile, with every regiment required to be capable of deploying within eight hours, although many of the Hussars struggled to actually achieve this.[5]

Composition History[edit]

2765[edit]

Twenty-sixth Avalon Hussars (Regiment/Regular/Reliable)[6]

- At this point in time the Twenty-sixth was stationed on Robsart and included a significant quantity of Taurian equipment within the unit makeup.[6] In common with the other regiments of the Avalon Hussars the Twenty-sixth had an attached aerospace wing, although these forces were primarily tasked to provide ground support rather than escort duties.[5]

2786–2821[edit]

Twenty-sixth Avalon Hussars (Regiment/Regular/Reliable)[3]

- At this point in time the Hussars were a medium-weight regiment stationed on Robsart and were operating at four-battalion strength.[3] In 2821 the unit were stationed on Mendham and were down approximately half a regiment in combat strength from their prewar status.[3]

2830[edit]

Twenty-sixth Avalon Hussars (Regiment/Regular/Reliable)[1]

- At this point in time the Hussars were a medium-weight regiment and had managed to rebuild to close to their previous four-battalion strength. The Hussars were stationed on Mendham.[1] The unit was destroyed during the war.[1]
