Famed for her piloting skill with the lightly armed and armored Flea, Ulzanna Whitehead (formerly Whitehand) was a noted Wolf's Dragoons MechWarrior.

History[edit]

Early Life and Career[edit]

Not much is currently known about Ulzanna's early life and how she subsequently ended up piloting for Wolf's Dragoons. Of the only half-dozen Fleas the Dragoons fielded, Ulzanna was given the very rare FLE-15 model.[1] Surviving unit rosters place Ulzanna as assigned to the Recon Lance known as "Swift West Wind" in Alpha Regiment's Waller's Company (nicknamed the "Waller's Wailers") and disbanded after the costly Battle of Misery. Out of her entire lance, she was the only survivor with her 'Mech completely destroyed, and only one of five MechWarriors in the entire Company to make it off Misery.[2]

After the Battle of Misery in 3028, Ulzanna joined the Wolf's Dragoons Home Guard on Outreach, marrying an Amerindian civilian named Chester Copperhead forming the Whitehead family. Dispossessed for three years, she would eventually have the honor of obtaining one of the very first, exclusively built Flea FLE-16 models. With this new opportunity it would not be long after when Ulzanna joined the famous Black Widow Battalion in 3031.[1]

In Service of the Black Widow Battalion[edit]

After joining the Black Widow's, Ulzanna was assigned to the First BattleMech Company known as the "Wolf Spiders"[3] and quickly gained a reputation for tremendous feats while piloting her newly minted Flea. The most notable example of her skills were recorded on the world of Wallacia in 3032, when the Battalion was hired by the world's leader to restore their sovereignty after they had declared independence and due to their close proximity to the potentially dangerous Capellan Confederation and the rebel Duchy of Andurien.[4]

During the Battle of Wallacia, the Black Widow Battalion fought a brilliant hit-and-run campaign against the Second Oriente Hussars, where Fleas fought on both sides. Ulzanna's 'Mech however had the distinction of being the only Flea in use by the Widows, while the Hussars fielded several generations-old FLE-4s. The Hussars began by attempting to probe the Widows' positions with a typical reconnaissance force for the time, which also included Stingers and Wasps, Whitehead managed to detect the incoming force and raced from the Widows' position to identify the attackers. None of the other Widows could keep up with her Flea and as she quickly wound up in the midst of the Hussars completely alone. Despite this, the Hussars were completely unprepared as she sped through their midst, skidding and reversing course to target the rear of the scouts before they could react. Laughing aloud over an open comm channel, Ulzanna amazingly managed to single-handedly destroy three enemy Fleas and sent the Stingers and Wasps into a complete rout. Soon after, reports of a lone Dragoon defeating two entire recon lances spread through the ranks of the Hussars, causing their morale to drop even before the Seventh Kommando began destroying supply dumps and comm relays. She would repeat this same performance in the destruction of Karlsmith's Company of the Second Oriente Hussars on 12 September 3032, repeatedly daring and distracting enemies to target her extremely fast and agile 'Mech while her much heavier Lancemates obliterated the Free Worlds forces.[1]

After this period, Epsilon Regiment of Wolf's Dragoons was also reinforced by several lances of Fleas, whose MechWarriors were trained by none other than Ulzanna Whitehead beginning in 3035, when they were stationed on Caph for the War of 3039.[1]

Retirement[edit]

In 3039, Sergeant Whitehead retired to raise a family.[1]

BattleMechs[edit]

Ulzanna is most well known for piloting the Flea exclusively throughout her time as a MechWarrior. She piloted both the FLE-15 and FLE-16 models.
