Unther Cooper was a Bloodnamed warrior and the commanding officer of Clan Hell's Horses' Eta Galaxy as of 3059.[1]

History[edit]

Galaxy Commander Unther, commanding both Eta Galaxy and the Fifty-first Mechanized Cavalry Cluster, was stationed in the Tiber system in 3059.[2] As a vitriolic opponent of Khan Malavai Fletcher's supportive arrangement with Clan Wolf, Unther was effectively banished to Eta Galaxy for his vocal opposition to the Khan's actions. Despite this punishment, Unther struck up a close relationship with his aide Star Colonel Kymma DeLaurel and utilized his veterancy to improve Eta Galaxy's standing.[1] By 3067, Unther had outlived Khan Fletcher and retained command of the Fifty-first Cavalry on Niles.[3]

During the Wars of Reaving, Unther and Eta Galaxy were dispatched in July 3072 to investigate the radio silence affecting the Horses' outpost on Nouveaux Paris, only to be surprised to discover the presence of a reborn Clan Burrock force supported by the WarShip Tremor. Eta suffered heavy casualties in the ensuing battle against the Dark Caste warriors—including the death of Kymma DeLaurel—before a Clan Watch force led by Star Colonel Rex Malthus successfully detonated several munitions stockpiles, forcing the Burrocks to withdraw. The arrival of Clan Star Adder's Alpha and Beta Galaxies ensured the Horses' escape, as Khan Stanislov N'Buta's previous amicable dealings with the Horses led him to offer Unther two Clusters of Adder warriors if Eta Galaxy would depart Nouveaux Paris and destroy the Burrocks' Zeta Galaxy.[4]

The joint Adder-Horses force discovered the whereabouts of Zeta Galaxy in late July 3074, when Boyd Truscott of the 191st Adder Guards informed Unther of the enemy unit's presence in the Ghost Bear Dominion. Eta's sole surviving Cluster, the Thirty-ninth BattleMech, and the attached 191st Guards and Fifth Assault arrived on Thule in August and received permission from the Ghost Bears to ambush the Burrocks upon their arrival. The ensuing battle on 29 August caused significant damage to Thule's industrial capital and led to the release of a virulent bioweapon targeting the Tseng and Snuka bloodlines, but the Burrocks' Zeta Galaxy was badly bloodied and only a single raider DropShip escaped. After waiting for the return of the Burrocks until the end of October, Unther's men were ultimately recalled back to Hell's Horses territory and the survivors of the Adders' 191st Guards and Fifth Assault Clusters were adopted into Clan Hell's Horses.[5]
