Production info[edit]
Hiya, and welcome to Sarna!
I have to raise an issue with several of your recent edits: You assume that if a given 'Mech or 'Mech variant is "produced" at a certain location that this would automatically imply every last named component is manufactured on-site. This is not actually supported by the source material though. It is not clearly defined what 'Mech production even means, this goes all the way from assembling cannibalized parts into functional units by hand in a 'Mech garage to "insert raw materials into lostech factory, get Valkyries". We simply cannot tell what production is assemply of prefabricated parts and what is actual manufacture of components. Please don’t jump to conclusions and don’t present assumptions as facts.
With that out of the way, please carry on. :) Frabby (talk) 12:08, 1 August 2024 (EDT)
- Hi Frabby!
- Thanks for the feedback, I'll definitely be more circumspect! The manufacturing base of the Inner Sphere has a lot of gray areas when it comes to fine details, especially when it comes down to components, factories either falling into disrepair/ruin, getting cannibalized, being outright destroyed, etc. ...which also makes it interesting to me! I'm always happy to accept constructive criticism and if I put something in that is incorrect, it definitely needs to be fixed.
- On a similar, but diverging note, I'm working on producing a "Objective Raids 3025" in the spirit of MadCappellan's 3067 version, (that I may end up sharing some day) with a clear distinction between referenced canon, reasonable inferences, and pure assumptions. First part is the lengthy process of identifying all of the known manufacturing facilities (up to 3025) and whatever may be known about them in the lore. But I digress, thanks for reaching out, I'm enjoying getting to contribute in some small way to this incredible resource! If there's ever anything else I can do to help, please let me know!
- Cheers! --CaptGrognards3025 (talk) 18:16, 1 August 2024 (EDT)
Unsafe assumptions[edit]
Hey, just wanted to let you know that your latest page edits were largely reverted for the same reason as discussed before. While your source points out that Kallon Industries on Nanking is operating a Wolverine assembly facility, no source indicates which, if any, of its components the firm manufactured itself there (or anywhere). Readers sometimes assume all parts are made on site, but various sources have shown that many 'Mech parts are shipped to the plants using them from abroad. Assuming all parts were manufactured locally is an unsafe assumption. We know the 'Mech was manufactured there for sure, but we (as is way too often the case) can't actually say the parts were made there too.--Deadfire (talk) 23:44, 26 November 2024 (EST)
- Thanks for the heads up, I don't disagree with the premise one bit. The part that throws me off are the citations on manufacturing corporation pages that include component parts of mechs, vehicles, etc. that say TRO:XYZ: "Produced X components on Planet Y" but there's no supporting evidence in the TRO entries for it, which led me to assume this was an "accepted" assumption. Are these just bad citations? --CaptGrognards3025 (talk) 09:03, 27 November 2024 (EST)
- Hi Captain, those component parts are a legacy from Sarna 1.0 about 15 years ago when a few editors building that part of the database assumed the Objective Raids-style component lists were canon across all TROs. Nowadays we're trying to be more literal with the data, since a larger range of BT enthusiasts use our database for different purposes and the information we provide is assumed to be authoritative. Cleaning out the pages is a project we have pending once we wrap up a few other things, but it's a massive task and if you'd like to be part of that, let us know. We're happy to have the help, and you can find us on Discord to discuss it. Best, Csdavis715 (talk) 10:07, 27 November 2024 (EST)
- Hi CS, thanks for the context! I'd love to help, looks like I have to figure out how to get my discord up and running again. Hope you have a happy thanksgiving! --CaptGrognards3025 (talk) 19:21, 27 November 2024 (EST)
