Welcome[edit]

Welcome, Phasis, to BattleTechWiki!

We look forward to your contributions and want to help you get off to a good strong start. Hopefully you will soon join the army of BattleTech Editors! If you need help formatting the pages, visit the manual of style. For general questions go to the Help section or the FAQ. If you can't find your answer there, please ask an Admin.

Additional tips
Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the wiki:

  • For policies and guidelines, see The Five Core Policies of BattleTechWiki and the BTW Policies. Another good place to check out is our market of Projects, to see how the smaller communities within BTW do things in their particular niche areas.
  • Each and every page (articles, policies, projects, images, etc.) has its very own discussion/talk page, found on the tab line at the top of the page. This is a great place to find out what the community is discussing along that subject and what previous issues have already been solved.
  • If you want to play around with your new wiki skills, the Sandbox is for you. Don't worry: you won't break anything. A great resource for printing out is the Wiki Cheat Sheet.
  • If you're not registered, then please consider doing so. At the very least, you'll have a UserPage that you own, rather than sharing one with the community.
  • Also consider writing something about yourself on your UserPage (marked as "Phasis" at the top of the page, though only do this if you're registered). You'll go from being a 'redshirt' to a 'blueshirt,' with the respect of a more permanent member.
    • This is really helpful for the admins, as it gives your account that touch of "humanity" that assists us in our never-ending battle with spambots.
  • For your first few edits on the wiki, please do not add any URLs (which can be an indicator of SPAM).
  • Consider introducing yourself on our Discord server.
  • In your Preferences, under the edit tab, consider checking Add pages I create to my watchlist and Add pages I edit to my watchlist, so that you can see how your efforts have affected the community. Check back on following visits by clicking on watchlist.
  • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random button in the sidebar, or check out the List of Wanted Pages. Or even go to Special Pages to see what weird stuff is actually tracked by this wiki.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~) or by clicking on the circled button in this image; this will automatically produce your name (or IP address, if you are editing anonymously) and the date.

Again, welcome to Sarna's BattleTechWiki!

InfoBoxForLangProduct[edit]

Just wanted to say that I'm very happy you took my criticism in stride, maintained a level-headed and positive attitude, and turned the InfoBox into a useful tool. I was afraid that perhaps I was being too harsh on you. Keep going! Frabby (talk) 17:07, 8 June 2018 (EDT)

Frabby (talk) 10:58, 8 May 2019 (EDT)

German products back cover blurbs[edit]

Hi, I don't think it's worth having the German edition back cover blurbs in product articles. The original (english language) product is what's being covered here, and the German edition is relevant only insofar as there may be certain differences in content. Frabby (talk) 08:52, 20 March 2020 (EDT)

ok, good to know, I will leave it out. saves dull typing :) thanks and best regards Phasis (talk) 18:53, 23 March 2020 (EDT)

Clangründer: Abkehr categories[edit]

Hi, may I inquire why you removed categories 'Foreign language products' and 'German language products' from the Clangründer: Abkehr redirect? The redirect stands for the German print edition which clearly does fall into both categories, no? The english BC serial, on the other hand, doesn't belong into either category. Which is why I categorized the redirect but not the main article. Frabby (talk) 10:15, 22 April 2020 (EDT)

Hi, I did this, because I created a new "Category:German edition"... which I plainly forgot to attach to the article Fall from Glory. I did this a moment ago. I thought it would be good to have a separate category to tag products, that exist both in english and german. I guess though, Clangründer: Abkehr is a special case, because it's the only product I know of, where the english edition derives from the german one. If you think the new category is rubbish for Fall of Glory, feel free to revert it. best regards Phasis (talk) 07:45, 23 April 2020 (EDT)

List of German BattleTech novels[edit]

Many thanks for taking up this old project of mine that basically fell by the wayside, and hammering it into shape. Much appreciated! Substantial Addition Award, 1st ribbon Frabby (talk) 02:26, 5 May 2020 (EDT)

Hey Phasis, once you are done with your gallery project do you think you could get back to the List of German BattleTech novels and help flesh out the huge section of redlinks at the bottom. I think this section of the wiki would be of a lot of interest to english speaking BT fans (I know I am very interested).--Dmon (talk) 17:04, 10 August 2020 (EDT)
Hey Dmon, yes I am planning to :) Right now I am hoarding all German Dark Age novels for scanning and expanding. But it will still take some weeks before I get to it. The rest might take some more time. best regards Phasis (talk) 17:13, 10 August 2020 (EDT)
Great stuff :-)--Dmon (talk) 06:51, 11 August 2020 (EDT)

BattleTech Names in German[edit]

Hi Phasis, I really wanted to thank you for adding the German names of BattleMechs and other units. The BattleTech universe is multilingual and I always thought it would be would be characterful to use foreign-language names to hint at that wonderful aspect. For your work, please accept this ribbon: Substantial Addition Award, 2nd ribbon --S.gage (talk) 19:18, 19 May 2020 (EDT)

Manual of Style (Italics)[edit]

Hi! I wanted to drop a note, since I assume you will be updating a lot more article galleries with sources, to point out that book titles should be in italics. (Policy:Manual_of_Style#Italics #4) This is one of the smaller items that I try to correct as I go, but there obviously are fewer corrections if everyone knows a policy exists. Thank you for all of your hard work!--Cache (talk) 14:18, 15 June 2020 (EDT)

Ok, thanks for the hint! I will try to think on it, best regrads Phasis (talk) 03:12, 16 June 2020 (EDT)

Gallery project[edit]

Hey Phasis,

With you adding stuff like book and TRO covers to unit articles I am wondering how far you plan to go with the galleries. I am thinking the gallery for things like the Mad Cat could potentially be rather large.--Dmon (talk) 18:47, 30 June 2020 (EDT)

Hey, that's right. Frankly I have no final idea on this. At the moment I am just sourcing and sorting all images of a unit already included in the article. The only exception was me adding cover images of TRO's and rulebooks where appropiate. I think it would be nice to include such very prominent presentations, but I am far from adamant on this. Anyway the goal can clearly not be to have a "complete" gallery of images. Is there a place in this wiki where we two and interested others could try to formulate a policy on this? best regards Phasis (talk) 06:02, 1 July 2020 (EDT)
There is an image policy with a little bit of information on galleries. The discussion page there is likely the best place to discuss galleries.--Cache (talk) 18:19, 25 July 2020 (EDT)
As Cache said, the Image policy discussion tab is the best place. Aslo I apologise for not getting back to you, I had not noticed you had replied.--Dmon (talk) 20:24, 25 July 2020 (EDT)

Awards[edit]

I have gotta hand it to you Phasis, according to the Active users list you have knocked out almost a thousand edits in the last month bringing your total upto just over two thousand. This means that you have earned a campaign ribbon Edit Count (2,000). Whilst we are at it I am going to award you a special ribbon for the dedication to improving the visual aspects of BattleTechWiki. Image Import Award, 1st ribbon. I have never given one of these out before! Well done.

P.S. I installed an awards board on your user page.--Dmon (talk) 18:58, 27 July 2020 (EDT)

Image republication tagging[edit]

Not sure if I agree with the additional sources you inserted into image files. In my opinion, the stated source should be the (single) one specific source of the image in questions, i.e. the specific book from which it was scanned or the specific file from which it was taken. Images get re-used all the time, but sometimes there are changes to the image and for this reason I prefer to see in the article what exact source a given image was taken from. Frabby (talk) 04:43, 12 August 2020 (EDT)

Hi, with every image where I insert a source I do check, if actually exactly this image was used. If there are any alterations to the image (other than size), I scan the altered image and upload it as an extra file. You can find examples for this in Packrat and Stuka, where Fanpro slightly altered the original images for the German edition of TRO:3025, whilst all other unit images in the book were left unchanged. By adding more sources, it is easier to see, where and how often an image has been (re)used. I think that's an informational plus. Phasis (talk) 07:25, 12 August 2020 (EDT)

Some German edition issues[edit]

Phasis. I encountered two issues related to German editions of certain novels. The issues are posted in Talk:List of German BattleTech novels and Talk:Shadows of War. If you have any insights or information that may help resolve one or both of those, I would be glad to hear. Thanks. --Dude RB (talk) 22:25, 15 June 2022 (EDT)
