Dropship / Small Craft Templates[edit]

Hi Rev, Happy New Year to you. I've been doing some Small Craft and DropShip articles as of late. I've noticed that the info boxes are lacking listing for Safe Thrust & Maximum Thurst. Is possible for you to added them to the info box? I've tried do it manually, but they don't appear when i enter them. -- Wrangler 16:18, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Sure. I can't do them /right/ now, but I should have made some attempt (maybe even succeed) by the end of the workday. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 16:48, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
Not rush, I'm not some task master or something! heh. I was going suggest to add slot for fuel too. Sorry keep imposing. I'm justing finding alot missing things in the template. I've changed the articles I've been doing's Armaments to Armaments & Capacities since there alot stuff cover that description doesn't cover or too much. -- Wrangler 17:01, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
I just added those fields to the dropship template. Unfortunately, I do not have the current information on those values as all I have is TRO 3057. It shouldn't be to much trouble to add them though. --Peregry 19:50, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks Peregry, Anything is better than nothing. I'm been just frustrated lacking ability to fix problems with existing templates. -- Wrangler 22:40, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
One hint, Wrangler, is to mimic what already exists. For example, I had a HUGE learning curve when trying to figure out how to adopt infoboxes (from WP) onto this site. But, since then, I've forgotten a lot of what I've learned. When I do have to do it again, I get into the guts of the template I want to change and find some code close to where I put to put the adaption, find where the code repeats and then copy the kit-&-kaboodle. Test around with it, until it does what you want it to do, look at the history of other Editors to see what they did. Trust me, with your lengthy history here, you get some massive leeway if you screw up a template...plus you know how to put it back to what it was before you tested on it. Be bold!--Revanche (talk|contribs) 22:47, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Leviathan Question[edit]

Hi Rev I wanted to ask you as i'm writing up the Leviathan Warship article. I have dilimea, i want to keep Transport and Heavy Battleship information seperate from one another. This is due to Transport and Battleship specs are rattly differient from one another. The Transports are all being converted in to the Battleship design. Should i just keep them into one article, or seperate them. I normally want keep together, but the Transport hasn't done alot beside move folks across space, Leviathan II battleship is making history in Jihad as thing move along. At the moment, the article is one piece, however I believe and think it deserves seperate article. What should i do? -- Wrangler 22:44, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Armchair answer: discuss as two separate variants on the same article and then include both cats at the bottom. To me, Leviathans are Leviathans...the ship is the same model, but different variant (and missions). However, I do recommend you bring the question up at BattleTechWiki:RequestForComment, so you get more than my opinion on the matter.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 22:50, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Cost for BattleMechs and Combat Vehicles[edit]

Hi Rev, is it possible to add a cost section to both BattleMech & Combat Vehicle templates? (Djuice 17:46, 8 January 2010 (UTC))

Absolutely. If you want me to do it, let me know, and I'll get to it shortly. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 17:51, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
If you could then it's much appreciated. Djuice 18:03, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Roger. Let me finish up what I'm working on, and then I'll get to it. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 18:04, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Okay, Djuice: try the BattleMech one out. I've got it as collapsable, meaning it won't show unless a value is there. Let me know how it works.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 18:48, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Okay, I'll give it a try. Thanks, edit: Okay there seems to be a problem, when adding in the cost, it moves the technical specifications bar into a funky position making it look kinda weird. Djuice 18:57, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Go ahead and re-create the problem with a 'Mech article. I'll investigate that one. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 19:19, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Hi there, here how it looks. Akuma <-- weird funkiness thingy with the tabs. Also for the Combat Vehicles the cost tabs doesn't even show up. Djuice 19:23, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
I was quick to find my mistake for the 'Mech infobox. Go ahead and set up a Vee one for me, pls. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 19:26, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, they are all working fine now. http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Zorya <-- See you handy work :p Now I can get to adding some cost for those vehicles/Mechs :D Djuice 19:29, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Excellent. Glad it worked out. Good luck with your endeavor! (As an aside, wikilinks (i.e. Zorya) work on talk pages too, so you don't havw to copy urls over.) --Revanche (talk|contribs) 19:36, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Fuel + Tons/Burn-day For Dropships & Warships[edit]

Hi, it's me again :p If you have any free time could you add those two additional boxes to both Dropship & Warship templates :p Take as long as you need, it's not urgent. Thanks Djuice 22:59, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Do Small Craft and ASFs need this too? --Revanche (talk|contribs) 23:33, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
Not both, just the fuel.. Djuice 23:40, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
Try a DropShip now. Let me see how it goes. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 00:00, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, it worked. Achilles <- example. Djuice 00:10, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
I'll try start filling in all other articles with dropships and small craft. They all have been altered now with new template change. -- Wrangler 01:14, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
Hmmmph. I didn't expect it to work at first.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 02:37, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
Bad news, Template is wrong due to confusion. I take full responiblity for this mistake for accuring. This what the writer wrote back since i'm not bright enough to clearly write it correctly.
No, it does not. It burns 1.84 tons per day. That means 15 tons of fuel lasts 8.15 days.
  — quote
This need to be changed on all effected template. Sorry for this big error. I tried to fix the template manually, but I was unable to do so. Can the template be changed to Burn Rate/Per Days-- Wrangler 02:00, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
Okay, I changed it to 'Burn Rate.' Will that work? (Not too current on BattleSpace stuff, even though I was a playtester for Heavy Metal Aero.)--Revanche (talk|contribs) 02:13, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
The Small Craft template still needs to be fixed. Its still missing the Burn Rate. The Tigress article one doesn't have the issue since I originally used the Dropship template for it when i was unable find smallcraft template (don't ask). In response in regards to the changes Battlespace vs current SO rules. The changes are not as visable in the stats we are been putting up in the article per say. Its more rules based things regarding the ships types and game play itself. I can't remember off hand right now what they are. My problem which started whole mess was that i kept miss-reading some things in stats. However, its still little confusing to me how they listed this particular stat for the ships. Example: The Tigress article, where this mess got started from. The Tigress is a small craft which lists 15 tons of fuel in Major Periphery States sourcebook. The Burn Rate is 8.15 days. Meaning the burn rate was done in days, not by ton way i've been mis-reading it. The Aquarius and Lyonesse articles are older than Tigress (despite being printed in TRO:3075.) They forgot to print the burn rate for those ships. The reason why i got confused besides mis-reading Tigress article in the source book was that the Burn Rate name didn't what you use to list how many days of fuel you have. I would thought they would have printed a stat like that as Maximum Fuel Range (Days) = 8.15. I kept miss the conection that rate was MAX Days of fuel verses how much fuel is burned. -- Wrangler 02:50, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
Okay, try that. Let me know if it doesn't work. Off to bed, tho, I think. G'night. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 03:05, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
So the new burn rate figure should be calculated as (Fuel/Burn per day) = No. of days ? Djuice 17:18, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
[hands up] Sorry; don't really know. I was just making the changes to the template, as requested. I didn't and don't have time to figure it out myself, but was just relying on what Wrangler and you requested of me. Please let me know if I need to change anything. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 17:45, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

Question[edit]

Hy Revanche I think you see my last addings about Manufacturing Centers...I hope my edditing on this is ok...i fixing in next time...I hope it was a expansion on the wiki site. 03:44, 10 January 2010 (UTC) Doneve 03:45, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

I absolutely think linking manufacturing centers to planets (and vice versa) is helpful. Good job. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 03:49, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Removed Pages[edit]

Hy Revanche i see you removed some references on the Abysmal Manufacturing Complex page why? I am not finished with the page. --Doneve 18:10, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

Apologies. Please feel free to revert my edits. As part of my spot copyediting, I checked the referenced pages and didn't see anything on those pages regarding Abysmal, and, wanting to keep the integrity of BTW high, I removed them. It sounds like, though, since you are still working on that page, you were just using the entries as templates? Also, if you are going to be working on a page for some length of time, you might find using the {{inuse}} or {{Underconstruction}} tags to be helpful, to protect it from other Editors (but you don't have to). Sorry to disrupt, and feel free to revert my works. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 18:44, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
No problem Revanche. You give me the answer. THX--Doneve 18:58, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

McKinnon's Company?[edit]

Hi Rev, i noticed you made a re-direct for future article named McKinnon's Company. Are you talking about McKinnon's Raiders? -- Wrangler 02:35, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

Negs. Take a look at the last entry on Cyc's talk page. It was me clearing up any other similar issues with that rarer form of apostrophe. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 02:50, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

Uploading imagine problem[edit]

Hi Rev. Something screwing going on with the uploading. I made Jpg file for the Storm Raider BattleMech for a place holder article. I took the imagine from PDF, into a paint file and made it into jpg file. Which turn out fine. However, when i went to upload the picture, the imagine does not appear. I'm not certain what heck I'm doing wrong. I been doing this method three times. Have I rain into a quota problem or something? The file is File:MWDA Storm Raider.jpg. Help? -- Wrangler 22:14, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Wrangler, I see all three images you uploaded. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 22:35, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
I can see them too, I would suspect that you have a browser/cache problem. Try closing down the browser and reloading, that usually fixes it. Djuice 22:43, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
Something screwy is going on with my ancient Norton Internet Security program. It doesn't like the file for some reason and won't display it. Maybe because I wrote the name of the file in caps...*grumbles at it.* That my Explorer has a setting that suddenly came on.-- Wrangler 23:07, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Citation style[edit]

On Trinity you changed the style of citation from "pg." and "pp." to "p" and "pp". Why? --Scaletail 02:39, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Help:References. I picked up the habit from Frabby (IIRC) about a year and half ago, as proper citing for 'page' and 'multiple pages', when we were discussing the layout of the 'perfect article'. I changed my editing style of that above to the p/pp method at that time. However, reviewing Help:References, I see I was supposed to use periods. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 03:54, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Missing thing from templates[edit]

Hi Rev, Sorry about the coming up with this at last minute. I was going over the templates, since i was writing another aerospace article. There appears to be a missing section in the info box. Structural Integrity. None of the template's info boxes have them listed. Once again, since i am unable to do infobox code. Is possible these can be added to WarShip, DropShip, SmallCraft and Aerospace fighter templates when you get a chance? Thanks! -- Wrangler 16:30, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

Sure. Just tell me what you want it to say, both in the template and in the data. For example, do you want the template to show in the 'Structural Integrity' and the data to only show a number? Sorry if I'm not clear right now; I think I have what you had last week. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 17:08, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
Recap, I just need a line in the Infobox for Structural Integrity. It simple listing, just number. It basic tells the player how internal hit points the ship has before its utterly destroyed. All Aerospace units as far I know have them. -- Wrangler 20:01, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
Got it. Might be done tonight. I'll let you know when done. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 20:27, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
Okay, made the change to Template:InfoBoxASF‎. Don't have the brain power to do it to the 9+ other templates tonight. Test this one out and let me know if anything is wrong. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 02:23, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
Wrangler, what about conventional fighters templates. Do they need structural integrity? --Revanche (talk|contribs) 16:13, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
Quick Question: I may have to improvise this if there isn't one. Do we have Space Station template? I've looking to do article for the station from the Handbook: Major Periphery States. I went to see if there was template for them, so i check Technical Readout: 3057 Revised. None of the space stations article exist. Is it going major uh-oh to put one together from scratch? -- Wrangler 01:10, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
No, it really won't. But, what would be helpful (save me time and let me do it before this weekend) is if you tell what you want in the template, in bullet form, like this:
  • Item 1
  • Item 2
  • Item 3
  • etc.

Get that for me and I'll probably be able to knock it out tomorrow sometime. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 01:26, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

I'm idot. I found a space station template. No articles been produced by it. However it IS missing some stuff. This my recommended suggestion to replace the Old Template of CreatStationArticle.

Hi Rev, do you know when you think we'll get that upgrade template for the Space Stations -- Wrangler 15:22, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
So sorry. It did slip from my radar. Its back on again. Maybe today? --Revanche (talk|contribs) 16:17, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Planetary Data[edit]

Hy Revanche, i have a question about an pdf download http://www.classicbattletech.com/downloads/DA_Republic_Worlds.pdf or the Touring the Stars pdf. on the classibattletech site. Can i use the datas from the pdf on the wiki, please response me. Doneve 00:49, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Yes, you may, as they are declared official and canon. Please reference them, also, when you do. Thanks for asking, Doneve. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 02:30, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Hy, i have one question more, can I categorize the Planets by Prefecture (one example planet: Alcor) - Category:Planets|Prefecture VIII with reference. THX Doneve 10:46, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Sorry Jump in. Doneve, please make sure when you add this data from the Republic Worlds, that you write without making appear the current year 3132. I've seen some of your updates. You list "Current" governor of the planet. I strongly believe it shouldn't be written like that. -- Wrangler 12:04, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Hy Wrangler, support is always helpfull for me, i work on my englisch ;), i write to you wenn i startet, but I have a lot to do about the manufacturing centers. Greeting Doneve 12:10, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

  • Two things: 1) yes, you can definitely add in additional categories that break down the RotS by prefecture. That is a logical development.
  • 2) As a fellow Editor (three involved here), I'm not sure I agree with Wrangler about the year: I think it should definitely be shown, so that when people read 'current governor', they understand current as of 3132. In fact, any reference to people in templates about a company, planet, etc, probably should have the year that position was held by him in parenthsis, so that readers know when this is true. Ex: Current Governor: Billy Ray Cyrus (3132). That's my opinion. Consensus will bear out how we do it.
  • You didn't ask, but I've always worked at Sarna from the perspective we're reporting from the far future (maybe, say, the year 5000), so that some facts are currently lost to us, but all of our readers are reading about Sarna for the history of the Inner Sphere (rather than the current news). That's not held by everybody, so how we represent different points in history remains up in the air (at least for the next 15 or so Real Life years, until we catch up with the Dark Age). --Revanche (talk|contribs) 14:14, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Hi Rev, Doneve; I was suggesting that it should be written in prospect that year 3132 wasn't currentl year. I though it be written as listing. listing for leaders for said planet. *Lord Buckly (2521) *Lord Governor Kelswa-Steiner (3130) etc. I was concern that Don may litterly translate info word for word from original information which was written not in a future view but view that 3132 was current year. -- Wrangler 16:15, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Got it. It wasn't clear to me in your previous write-up (as an English reader), and since it is his 2nd language, had to be less so for him. Right? I dunno! Maybe your disjointed sentences actually work better for him. But, yeah...it'll be interesting to see how it comes out: does listed information get repeated/updated in sections by year, or will it be listed once, with acknowledged changes shown for the same field? --Revanche (talk|contribs) 17:39, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Characters from MW4: Vengenance[edit]

Hi Rev, I'm little rusty on the what citation goes on characters who come from the semi-canon sources. A no-name user has enter some MW4: Vengenance characters to Sarna. -- Wrangler 12:07, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

I've added the ApocryphalArticle templates for the articles that are effected. Question: Should these character, with the Apocrypha template in them be listed in any of the fully-canon categories, like Characters of House Steiner, etc? -- Wrangler 12:30, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
I would say no, not if they're completely apocryphal. However, it is possible that characters that appeared in an apocryphal source also appeared in some canonical source. In the case of the characters from MW4, I suggest you check all books covering Carver V to see if any of the folks from the game were mentioned; they're all important people after all. And if a character as such is canonical then it goes into the categories. In that case, you'd have to be careful to make it clear in the article what parts are apocryphal. Frabby 13:25, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
What Frabby says. When I first read your request, I was going to point you to him, since his interests deal with the subject of apocrypha much more. If/when you do find important characters that exist outside of MW4: Vengenance, my concept of identifying the apocryphal is to have either a MW4: Vengenance or Apocrypha sub-section at the end of the character history. That section should include years, so that readers can easily match the information with canon material, if they so desire. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 14:06, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
This going be tough. MW4 games re-wrote some fiction. The character MAy have appeared in normal fiction, such Youngblood from Crescent Hawk games, but MW4...i don't know if there any books that covers what happened on Carver V aka Liberty. Other than name change...mentions of the Fire Ant in Technical Readout: 3050 Upgrade. I don't know of any source book during that time that covers it. I believe its possible the characters who've been given a reference to the FedCom Civil War source book have mentions in it. I don't have a searchable source of information at the moment. So i will take me while to do this. As for the character problem. I think we should create a Apocrayha Characters category for those whom COMPLETELy have non mention in regular canon sources. -- Wrangler 16:10, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Sure. My philosophy is every article should belong to some category, to help increase the interconnectedness of the wiki. Since purely apocryphal characters should not appear in the primary character categories, having a mother category for them would be the answer. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 17:42, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

User Welcome Problem[edit]

Hy, Revanche, i become some problems wen I was looged out, and lurging on the wiki, I become allways, Hello Welcome on the...you know what i mean. Doneve 21:54, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

What I'm hearing is you may not have cookies authorized, and so -sometimes- forget to log in to the site when you visit. I don't bother to check IP addresses, so I assume every new IP to the site is a new user. Don't worry about those. Its not a problem for me to do them (Ebakunin made it easy for me) and this way I know every new person gets the welcome message. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 21:59, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Okidoki I know what you mean.THX Doneve 22:08, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

XY Coordinates[edit]

Hy again, can you tell me, where are the XY- coordinates com, or what are programm or other thinks you use. Doneve 00:19, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Some people like to use IS Atlas, which isn't official. I use the old House Books for cited coords, which listed the coords for each planet in that realm (but they weren't released in the censored pdf versions).--Revanche (talk|contribs) 00:23, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
Ok, I come in next time with a little update on this spar or spart ;)...Thanx Doneve 00:31, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
Hy Revanche i stop my y: coordinates project. Frabby talk to me, it is a meta-source, and in the Inner Sphere Atlas are to many misstakes, to use it as reference. I dont have the original House Books only as pdf, and there the coordinates not listed. I am a little bit sadly, but it is ok, i dont want to put fals informations in the great wiki. Or its a compromiss, i finished the y: coordinates, but i dont use the Inner Sphere Atlas as referenc.GreetingsDoneve 15:31, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
By all means, please continue! I didn't mean to stop you. Just don't quote the IS Atlas as a reference anymore; like Revanche already said above, it's not an official source. The Y coords on this wiki are dead wrong anyways while most stuff from the Atlas is correct. If you can, cite the correct sources but if you only have the Atlas, well don't give a reference then. Frabby 17:01, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
Ok, i start again, i use not IS Atlas as references :).THXDoneve 17:48, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

Doneve[edit]

Dear Revanche, I feel that Doneve really deserves some special merit/award for his contributions to planetary information. He is citing Chris Wheeler's IS Atlas to replace the erroneous Y-coordinates with the actual values, and as Chris Wheeler is (himself) cited as a BattleTech fact-checker in regards to timelines and planetary information, the source is pretty sound. This task has been on the "to-do list" for planetary data for some time, and requires ~2000 separate edits for the Inner Sphere alone. It is quite a task, and I feel he deserves recognition.--S.gage 23:35, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

I agree with you. Doneve's additions have been important in adding (the industrial articles) and correcting material (planetary data). There are two options: Editor & Admin awards. Its my goal to introduce a new ribbon every month, and right now Editor Awards are the most populated. Unless you want to wait until the appropriate Admin award is available and nominate him for one of those, might I suggest you award him one of the Editor Awards? An All Purpose Award would be my suggestion. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 14:22, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Founders Consistent Service Award[edit]

Dan, I've added a Founders Consistent Service Award to your board. You are a guiding light for the wiki, and have been an instrumental part in it growing to where it is today. Thanks for all of the coordination and organizing you do with projects, other admins and editors. Your work really shines through. Nicjansma 06:26, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, Nic. It is a pleasure to work here. I think I can say each of us feels like we are genuinely helping the BattleTech community grow with our efforts here. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 02:00, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

Mercenary Command template problems[edit]

Hi Rev, sorry to bother you with this issue. The Template Help:CreateMercenaryUnitArticle is terribly out date and partically broken. The template is missing unitname line it it, which causes the infobox to have the mercanry's name instead of the actual unit name. Also the template has wrong article category is incorrect it. Its has main category of (Mercenaries) vers of Mercenary Commands. It also lacking line for < References / >. (I'm spacing it so you don't have coding issue here :P) Is it possible to replace this with newer one? I've been bandaiding mercenary unit articles that have been popping up. However, it getting out of control. Can you fix this or assign someone who able to re-do templates? Thank you. -- Wrangler 19:49, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

  • Forgot to mention. Do you need me to make new template what the should like? I would think you were better at that than i am, i'm just noticing problems cropping up. Also, who should I talk to about Neuling. He rapidly added whole slew (12) of articles to Sarna, but only merc units with just listings of what mercenary unit has for components. no history or anything much else. I'm not great talking to people, do you know whom be best ask him/her about adding content to her/his articles? I've fixed one until i noticed how many he/her was adding. -- Wrangler 19:55, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
Okay, I'll take a look at the template tomorrow (Valentines' Day is today for my wife and me). Feel free to provide some suggestioons, but I'm sure you're right that it is out of date.
As for Neuling, I see he is providing solid facts and even references. No one is required to provide a complete article (which you often come very close to doing). As long as they provide facts about the unit and not just an empty article, then he is helping. Some of us enjoy writing prose, while others enjoy just adding data. All-together, we'll get to better articles. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 14:20, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
Hello Rev. I and Neuling have spoken briefly regarding the Hampton's Hessens main article. I by accidently expanded the article with alot source information. He wasn't too happy about my revamping his article. I apologize to him regarding that. He said if i had more resources to contribute, i could expand what he added. However, I'm going be sorely repressed from trying fix alot other problems of the article that it could look like i'm revamping it again. I am trying be respective his work, though the alot semi-empty merc article he did. Do you have recommendation what I should do. I'm concerned if I'm too bold i'm going upset him. -- Wrangler 17:10, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
I have two points of view on this that /may/ appear to be counter-productive, but really aren't. First is that no one owns an article, even one they created. Each article is presumed to be an act of collaboration and if an Editor cannot work in that environment, then a public wiki is not really where they need to be. (Of course, the extension of that is they are free to work on their own project - such as Roosterboy has done with his ComStar Historical Archives - but without the promise of the breadth of scope our project has.)
The other point is that established Editors, such as you and I, have a responsibility to cultivate and grow other, newer Editors...the farm team, so-to-speak. It behooves us to encourage their growth, efforts and creativity as much as possible, and to refrain from "biting the newcomer" (to borrow from Wikipedia) as much as possible.
You want to improve upon his articles, but at the same time, you don't want to scare him off. Both are commendable goals. One way to cultivate him is to make minor copyedits. Granted, not necessarily your strong suit, but since he is not a native English speaker, there are plenty of ways you can instruct him on how we do things thru demonstration of minor improvements of his articles. My suggestion is to do just that. Show him how to properly format an article, add citations, use italics and wikilinks, etc. Follow him somewhat (much as I did with you, when you first started posting here), and write encouraging notes explaining the changes you made, by using the history links. If you see an article YOU want to drastically improve...write a note to yourself on your page and then...wait. Give the article some time to sit, so he can finish it at his own pace. You can improve it enough to save it from deletion (if it is a target for deletion), but let it be. Give it three weeks, a month, whatever. And then, come back and improve it. If he stops posting altogether for a length of time, you can come in earlier. If he continues posting, but has moved on from your target article(s), then you can come in, make your additions and by then, he should feel much more comfortable with the collaboration process.
Does that help? --Revanche (talk|contribs) 01:51, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

Image Project[edit]

Hy Revanche, one asks because of images, give it somewhere category from missing images or pictures. I want to add the missing files??? Doneve 16:19, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

Doneve, I'm so sorry. I don't understand. Can you try and ask again? --Revanche (talk|contribs) 16:32, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
Hy again, i want to add all missing pictures (images), example: (Peoples, Equipment, BattlMechs...), or if i must search by myself in the wiki, for all the missing files. THXDoneve 16:40, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
So you are suggesting an admin category (such as Category: Missing Images) be added to articles that are missing images? Makes sense to me. Feel free to make it happen. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 16:48, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

KF Drive Integrity/Sail Integrity[edit]

Hy Revanch, i see in the Warship Infobox Template, there the KF Drive Integrity and Sail Integrity, and Sail diameter are not listed in the Infobox, i think its is helpfull to add this on the Infobox. What think you about that. If so please can you fix the Infobox Template. GreetingsDoneve 21:39, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

Okay, if you think it is necessary. Give me a bit of time to add it, 'cause I'll need to add it to JumpShips too (8 major changes).--Revanche (talk|contribs) 02:30, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

Okay, I fixed the two types of WarShip templates. I'll have to do the JumpShips later. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 13:22, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
Hy I again ;), i see the Tons/Burn-day is not in the WarShip Infobox, only the Burn Rate?? Doneve 22:57, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
Same thing. It was decided that Burn Rate is less confusing when doing the math. The same number applies there. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 02:55, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

Rasalhague force Question[edit]

Hello Rev, i wanted bring this up to you. Talk:1st Tyr‎. I'm not sure if your update on latest jihad books, but this is important question to ask. With absorption of Rasalhague forces by Clan Ghost Bears, new galaxies with clusters sharing older Rasalhaguian names are being used. Some are absorbed older units, some are not. the First Tyr for instance was actually destroyed and was reborn as Clan unit. Question is do we treat these units as seperate, or do they stay together? Were talking about forces who's name changed, and nation technically has changed as well. I'm inclined to go with seperate so keep less confusion when someone looks up strictly Inner Sphere version of the regiment. Due to the name conventions here, (no mentioning of Cluster in name or regiment for articles.) There sometimes going be clashing. -- Wrangler 12:54, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

I'd say separate articles (because of the name and dramatic unit change), but with a closing comment about being reborn as a cluster and a link in a ==See Also== section. This wouldn't necesaarily be true just for name changes, as re-directs serve a purpose, as well, if the only significant change is the name.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 19:27, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
I'll put in to add the Also See section of the original 1st Tyr article. link it to Clan version of the unit. There only mentions of its actions after it Clan formation. The unit unlike the previous 1st Tyr has nothing to do with old one but having its old Commanding officer as aide to Galaxy Commander its parent formation. -- Wrangler 19:44, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

Need help with InfoBoxes?[edit]

Revanche, if you need help with Infoboxes (creating/updating) I'm willing to try it. I may not know a whole lot about them but I can learn fast. I was thinking I'd start with a ProtoMech Infobox based on the Battlemech infobox. Sound good?--Mbear 19:39, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

Excellent idea. Please do. Doneve will contact me when he has the data for the infobox ready, but I'll definitely pass that off to you. That would be a great way to cut your teeth. Absolutely ask me about any questions you might have. Thanks! --Revanche (talk|contribs) 21:22, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
Actually I went ahead and put together a test version. Template:InfoBoxProtoMech. You can see it "in action" at User:Mbear/ProtoMechTest --Mbear 23:11, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
I think it works great. Protomechs don't really give you the opportunity to mess with collapsible fields (i.e., they disappear when empty), but since you understand the concept, you might seek out a category that could use advanced infoboxes. Will you be building a 'Quickly Create' help page? --Revanche (talk|contribs) 02:33, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
Uhh. Sure! I'll need to research the procedure pages though.--Mbear 12:58, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
No problem; I'll throw it together. Its not too hard. You did the hardest work already.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 15:17, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
Actually I think I've got it. Here's the page I came up with: Help:CreateProtoMechArticle If anything needs to go, let me know. --Mbear 18:51, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

Word of Blake Militia Units Project[edit]

I am progressing through the Word of Blake Shadow Divisions as quickly as I can. Please do not delete the remaining empty ones. -- Wrangler 14:26, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

I don't think I did. The only thing I remember deleting yesterday was an empty page that had a deletion request due to improper naming. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 15:18, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
46th & 51st Shadow Divisions received a sub-stub template, which notes eventual automatic deletion. Been trucking along with Blake Divisions since December. I finally got them organized since their creation by someone else in correct order and going one by one filling them out. I just need couple weeks to finish filling these empty articles out. Since you put the sub-stubs on there, i'm asking they be removed them. They will be done. I'm getting slightly busier in next couple days should be done soon - Wrangler 15:46, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
Safest bet would be to add at least two concrete facts to each of the articles of interest and then a note on the discussion page. When I do time-deletions (which I haven't yet), I review for current interest and/or development. That would be true of any other admins doing cleanup (and empty articles are a hot topic amongst the admins right now). I can't, as one admin, give you carte blanche to leave them as they are, because that means I'd be hindering another admin. I'll re-consider deleting any WoB unit articles because of this conversation, but it'd be best if you did a stop-gap improvement and declaration of intent for each article. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 16:03, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
Both formentioned Divisons have been added content. I was lucky be able to make time to do it at this moment. I will need add more later. -- Wrangler 20:11, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

Nominations[edit]

How do we nominate an Editor for an admin-only award? Thanks! ClanWolverine101

Just contact an Admin on that page or directly. The Admin will review the nominees efforts and decide if he wants to award the ribbon. Any guidance you provide the Admin would help lead to a positive decision. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 19:42, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
Cool. In that case, I nominate Doneve for this new award. I've added about a dozen bio pages as of late, and D. has been quick to upload the pics. They look much better that way. ClanWolverine101

Yearlist[edit]

Hy Revanche, can you take a look on 2238, i want to update the yearlist by Bibliography and References, on this way.Doneve 12:43, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for asking, Doneve. First off, 'bibliography' is mis-spelled. Second, if you don't mind, please hold off on adding refs and biblios to year pages. That seems unnecessary work to me, for the linked articles should have those already. I'm thinking of opening a discussion about this shortly. Thanks. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 19:46, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

Which article? --Revanche (talk|contribs) 02:13, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
The first DropShip Achilles and all of DropShip sites!!.Doneve 02:24, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
Ugh. Okay, this may be difficult to understand, but if you cannot, please ask Frabby to translate. Structural Integrity is now fixed. Burn Rate/Burn Days Rate have both been changed to read 'Fuel (tons)' and 'Fuel (days)'. In order for you to see it, your data has to show those words, not Burn Rate/Burn Days Rate. All DropShip articles have to be updated to show this. Wrangler asked for the change, so if you ask him, I'm sure he'll help you change all the articles. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 02:46, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

Armor Tonnages[edit]

Hi, I'm new as an editor to Sarna, but so you know I was the guy who fixed the Ironsides aerospace fighter. I was wondering if it would be possible to add armor tonnages to the 'mech stat bars? Whenever I look up a 'mech I tend to move past the ones that don't have armor tonnages because i hate working it out or searching more.
If it can happen, I'd be happy to help with any of the 3050/3055 'mechs as they are the only manuals I own. Thanks very much--Mop no more 09:22, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

Hey, Mop; glad you could join us. I have been making changes to the aerospace templates, because there is no formalized community working on those. However, 'Mechs do have such a community, called Project BattleMechs. I'd ask that you go there first, to the talk page, and suggest your idea. Flesh it out some, describing where it would be on the infobox, how you'd seek to fill it in, etc.
The community isn't too active anymore because all but the newest 'Mechs have been inputted (<--is that a word?), but because 'Mechs are second only to planets in the numbers of articles, what you are suggesting has the potential of affecting hundreds of articles, leaving a blank gap in all of the 'Mechs you don't personally change.
By approaching the community first, and giving them about a few days to respond, you'll be seeking consensus and drumming up help, which could improve each of the articles. And, as is part of the B-E-D policy on consensus, if no one responds in a set amount of time, then you also have consensus! In that case, I'd be glad to make the changes you recommend.
If you choose to take up this pet project, power to you! And, I'll keep an eye on it, providing a direct link to it on the front page, ok? --Revanche (talk|contribs) 13:59, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
ha, darn. I may have to post-pone this one then until the holidays, when I have school out of the way. If I had thought of the number of articles that would have required updating, I may have thought that one through better. Still, I'll see what I can do about it when I can, and thanks for the support. Mop no more 14:53, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
Okay, I understand the need to wait until you have time, but the great think about that Wiki Project is you can rally a team effort. The other articles, including planets, don't have the cohesion that Project BattleMech has shown in the past. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 17:06, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

BattleMech Roles Question[edit]

Hi Rev, I noticed your making new series of articles regarding roles of 'Mechs. Won't it be easier to have them rolled up into a single article verse seperate smaller ones? -- Wrangler 22:41, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

It would for some, but for me, I enjoy the idea that a smaller article may breed further interest that increases the amount of material initially put into it. I believe its harder to expand a 'list' article with new consistent information and/or diverge the material than it is to lump related articles into a relevant category. (Its also why you see me create a lot of stub articles. Wink.gif) Thanks for asking! --Revanche (talk|contribs) 22:46, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

Unfortunately, only Admins have the ability to delete anything from the wiki. However, as Neufeld did, by putting {{deletion|1}} onto the article/file (remember: replace '1' with the reason why), you bring it to our attention and we'll review it. If it merits deletion, we'll do it. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 18:02, 21 March 2010 (UTC)

What do you think, how we start a Image Canon, there we can discusse some image standarts or non image standarts, i come back in next time or next day.Doneve 12:02, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
Doneve, what you suggest with "Image Canon" amounts to a Policy for images. I'm all for it! Frabby 12:06, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

Hey Rev, I just spent about five minutes banging out a possible policy. It's over at User:Mbear/GalleryPolicy for your review. (I've never written a policy before, so be gentle.) Seemed that writing it, even in general form like this, was the least I could do to thank you for your hard work.--Mbear 17:43, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
Thanks a lot, Mbear: I appreciate it. Actually, if you want to helm up the initial discussion (as you have started), that would allow me to continue wrapping up the other policy work. I'd like to suggest you 'move' what you've started over to Policy Talk:Images. Also, while I will weigh in there, the discussion should not only be about code to be used but what images are allowed, attribution of images, etc. Think outside the box and realize that this policy is the 'one-stop shopping' for how BTW should handle images (in concert with already existing policies). Seriously, thanks for helming this. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 19:59, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
OK. I'll try to figure out something.--Mbear 20:10, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

Removing something from your To Do list[edit]

Hi Rev, hope your having a good one. I wanted notify you little while ago, i accidently did one of your tasks you had put on your To Do list on your front page. To establish the Exoskeletons Category: Ailette, Tunnel Rat I, Tunnel Rat III, Gorilla. Exoskeleton category and Tunnel Rat I & III have been made. -- Wrangler 11:50, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, Wrangler. No problem hitting my To Do list; a lot of those were done when I was one of the sole Editors here and trying to establish some content here. While its not likely I'll actually check that list too often, I'll keep it, to see if I can make my mark where needed (and thereby at least address my previous intentions). Have a good day. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 12:00, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

New Info Box Request[edit]

Hi Rev, I am fixing to do something differient but I'd like to have a new template made. As you know i don't know how to make such things. So Here what I'm requesting if you or someone else can make it. I'm requesting a infobox to made for Solaris Stables. Basic template would be basicly outline. I wish it to be layed out similarly to the way Stables are listed in Classic Battletech Mappacks source book for solaris. Infobox itself to have. Imagine, Name of Stable, Affiliation, Colors/badge, Units used; (this is where they put number mechs, number vehicles, aerospace fighters, and infantry/battle armor), Stable Experience / Rating. Then in main part of the template it would have, Stable description, Stable history, Notable Personnel, , Stable Master & Owners, Tactics and Style, Notes, Game Notes, then reference stuff and I would like category listed to be Category:Solaris_Stables. Which we DO have category for. If you can't, please let me know I'll continue project another way. Thank you! -- Wrangler 23:41, 25 March 2010 (UTC)

Wow...what an interesting concept. Sure, I can do that. Let me kick it around a bit, ok?--Revanche (talk|contribs) 03:08, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
Alrighty, then please let me know. I did only one stable which is actuall cooporative and i was looking at it thinking it would look good if figure out how get infobox made. Everytime I've tried, I've botched. Thanks Rev -- Wrangler 12:12, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
Also, to the above list i've added Stable Masters & Owners (like Officers in Military Regiments) since many these stables are sometimes centuries old. I'm sortof seperating the Stables from the cooporatives only because their run differiently, but for template don't worry about it. I will make note in category so when the template is done the person adding them will be able know (hopefully) what to do. Also, I've diliberately left out the year its founded or current year due to off and on nature of them. It can be listed in the history, some of the stables/cooperatives are don't have them since their centuries old. Please let me know how its going! -- Wrangler 13:27, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
Keep listing the ideas, as you develop them. I'll try to work on this on Sunday, when I should have more time uninterrupted. Based on your above statements, I'm thinking a QucikStart page would be helpful, too.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 16:06, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
Rev, I'd like to try to do this. It'd be a good way to get experience with infoboxes (like I mentioned earlier).--Mbear 16:18, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
Absolutely. We have no 'infobox' guy and I can't imagine why we'd want to restrict it to a few. Run with it! --Revanche (talk|contribs) 17:34, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
Rev, I've completed the infobox Wrangler wanted for Solaris Stables. I've also completed a help page, and put it in place. I put it under Military Commands, but I don't know if maybe it should have it's own line.--Mbear 14:05, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
Copy all. I'm working on the images' consensus review at this moment, but will review your efforts shortly. I'll get back with you, Mbear. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 14:14, 29 March 2010 (UTC)

Problem and Have Question[edit]

Hello Rev, fellow Editor Doneve appears in have important imagine(s) from Historical: Operation Klondike. I'm not very good using the templates say mortiorium violation. I've done in past, but since there templates it didn't work out so well. Sure Doneve understand what i'm tying since i'm Grammer-challenged sometimes. -- Wrangler 14:01, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

In addition. I've found more imagines from Klondike. Doneve been rapidly trying improve articles. He added pictures to the major Clan leaders from the PDF version of the source book. I have added note to him. However, I'm not sure if he can communicate correctly what he doing wrong or judge what is something he has to wait on. -- Wrangler 15:05, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
Example link, please? --Revanche (talk|contribs) 16:08, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
File:Phillip Drummond.jpg, this is one of least two more I could find on that date. I found them his contributions page. For the 12th of March. If you look his history of contributions you will find them. -- Wrangler 14:33, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

On a totally unrelated note[edit]

Rev, I just ran across your comment on the Policy:Libel discussion page: "However, I'm not sure how to be all-inclusive and encyclopedic, but also vague." You can't be all-inclusive and vague at the same time. IMHO that's like trying to be pregnant and not pregnant simultaneously. Wink.gif--Mbear 14:19, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

Hey, Mbear: I think you meant Policy_Talk:Moratorium. Reading thru that, I think I said the same thing as you (i.e., they are mutually exclusive), but without using pregnancy or other venereal diseases as metaphors. Wink.gif--Revanche (talk|contribs) 16:14, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

Thank you[edit]

I just noticed where you added a link to my site in your links section. I appreciate it. Thank you! Jherbert2 02:53, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

No problem. It was more of a 'a-ha' moment, because the purchase of CBT materials helps CBT and it is a relevant link. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 02:58, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the helping hand[edit]

Hy Revanche i give you the Helping Hand Award, 2nd ribbon , for help me by any questions and...--Doneve 01:09, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

Its my pleasure, Doneve. Thank you. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 01:11, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

Editor Bars[edit]

Rev, I've got two possible Editor Userbars up on my userpage. I think Doneve's already using one. I've got a few other ideas I have yet to finish, but I thought you may want to see what I've got so far.--Mbear 18:52, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

I like them both, for different reasons. I'm curious: do you think we should have just one, or leave it up to the Editor to decide? If the latter, we can create a BTW Userbar gallery. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 22:06, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
Ooooh! Ooooh! We get to choose our own style? (Seriously, both look cool) ClanWolverine101 01:16, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
And both Mbear and Ebakunin might be delivering some more! --Revanche (talk|contribs) 01:42, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
Personally I'd like to leave it up to the user. They're all going to say BattleTech Wiki Editor in some form, so why put rules on what people can use?--Mbear 11:37, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
Good. I agree. My first inclination was to have a 'vote', but use is use. Are those two ready for release?--Revanche (talk|contribs) 11:40, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
Sure. I wouldn't have put them up otherwise. --Mbear 15:11, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
Excellent. News item. I'm having trouble choosing between the 3rd & 4th versions. Good job, Mbear. Thanks! --Revanche (talk|contribs) 15:58, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
News item. I'm having trouble choosing between the 3rd & 4th versions.
Good! Then my nefarious plan is working! Cause "analysis paralysis" in the admins so I can stage a coup and rule with an iron fist generously and benevolently, leading the editors into a golden age. (And if you believe that, I've got a nice bridge for sale.)--Mbear 16:37, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
Looks used, so I won't pay full price for it. And, can I get it with mustard? --Revanche (talk|contribs) 16:59, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

HY HO[edit]

Hy Revanche, i give Ebakunin in last time the 1st All Purpse Award, you see it on his talk page, give him the 2nd.Greetings --Doneve 20:02, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

Aha...okay. So hre never 'put on' the first. Okay, will recognize that. Thanks. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 20:03, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

New Award[edit]

Hy Revanche i give you the All Purpose Award, 2nd ribbon, for fixing my litte failurs on the new updated year pages.--Doneve 16:06, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Thank you, Doneve. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 23:17, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

UP/WP[edit]

Hy, can i pick up your Lushan Industries article, and put it on the Lushan Industries Manufacturing page.Doneve 10:45, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

No, please don't! That is copied from the text, and I'm using it to write that exact article. I did not write that. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 11:44, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

BattleTech Image Gallery[edit]

Hy, I want to create a Category: BattleMech Images, but i want to put only colour images on it, what are you thinking, also we can remove some images from the BattleMech sites to the Gallery.Greetings--Doneve 01:23, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

I'm fine with that, as long as the pics are canon/official. I'd say the pics must also be in alphabetical order. If they are color only, then that should be in the name. Ex: Gallery: BattleMechs (Color). --Revanche (talk|contribs) 09:54, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
Hy Revanche i hope you have a good time and found your easter bunny ;). I start with my Gallery project, and remove the images (colour) from the BattleMech sites in the Gallery section, i hope it works well.Greetings--Doneve 16:53, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

Hy Rev thank you for deletion my Macro Images, my failur. One question is DOOG a signature for Doug Chaffee--Doneve 23:01, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

Sorry...I really don't know. Check the source material: did he illustrate for the book? If he's the only one listed with similar name to 'DOOG', it's a good bet.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 10:53, 12 April 2010 (UTC)

Sir. Paul Masters[edit]

Hello, Rev. I understand why you reverted Paul Master's death from 30?? to ????. However, when Apollyon took over this place. it made it clear that Sir. Paul Masters was DEAD. It in the Jihad Hot Spots books. It just they didn't nail down when exactly. This is due to nature of the the Jihad Hot Spots books being scattered/scrambled news reports and intelligence corpondances. Day of the dead on reliable source of information from new Battletech source books is now endangered species. -- Wrangler 10:56, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

I understand the ambiguity of the 'now-reporting' style with which we're witnessing the Jihad, but that wasn't made clear on the article. A ref is required for that factoid, and maybe even pinned down to a decade (ex: b. 3012[1]-d. late 3070s[2]). Remember, anything in question that is not cited can be removed. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 11:10, 6 April 2010 (UTC)
Suggestion : Drop the "death" part of the intro (i.e. just have his date of birth) and refer to his death in the body under Jihad/Death. Refer to what material DOES reference his death. ClanWolverine101 11:45, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

Level 3 Equipment[edit]

Rev - Bringing this to you first : In articles regarding Level 3 equipment, should it be noted that said equipment is Level 3, and therefore may be subject to different rules? ClanWolverine101 02:47, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

This leads to bigger discussions: how do we present out-of-universe material and should we present rules? If so, to what extent? The former has been openly discussed here, while Frabby has opened the issue with Nic on his talk page here. Your exact item is just a bit stalled in a discussion I'm having with Neufeld at this place.
I'm suggesting we open this to the crowd and develop a consistent plan of action with those items. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 03:48, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

Thanks.[edit]

Rev, I just responded to your comment on the Operation Guerrero talk page. Nice to know someone gets what I was trying to do when I moved the tables. Thanks. I was beginning to feel abandoned.--Mbear 12:56, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

No problem. For some reason one editing style has brought more emotion (nor excessive, just more) than we usually get here.
On another topic, did you get that e-mail? --Revanche (talk|contribs) 14:37, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
Yep. Looking at it (and my schedule) now.--Mbear 15:14, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
It may not happen in the next 24 hours. Events are dependent upon Nic's schedule, as well. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 15:24, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
Actually I haven't had a chance to look through the requirements, so I'm a little torn. My worry is that it would be too much like work and suck the fun out of the wiki, you know?--Mbear 16:46, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
I was joking about the test. It simply allows you access to do more with your presence. Think about what you /have/ done already and what else you could do directly, without having to resort to templates and messages left on admin talk pages. All seriousness aside, the $350 annual membership fee can be met through a grant from a local community organization, maybe?--Revanche (talk|contribs) 16:55, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
"All seriousness aside, the $350 annual membership fee can be met through a grant from a local community organization, maybe?"
I see you've already found out what I'm going to do with my economic stimulus/bailout money. Have you been hacking into my PC again? That explains all the p0rn "artistic studies" that magically appeared here...
All kidding aside, OK. I'll do it. Thanks for thinking I can do it.--Mbear 17:07, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
I was convinced by others. I was all like, "Meh....meh....meh." I can't imagine your coffee is any better than the current intern's swill. There is something about its flavor, though...--Revanche (talk|contribs) 17:48, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for your welcome, it is good to be appreciated. I will try to continue to improve ans support this wiki.Deeppockets 00:55, 24 June 2010 (UTC)

Help pleace[edit]

Hoola Revanche, pleace can you redirect my Category: BattleMech Images to Category: Gallery Images, or tell me how i can do this by my self, tnx. I want to create some sourcebook, FM, ..., gallery with all the pictures in the books in one separt page, FM FedSuns Gallery, or ...--Doneve 00:12, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

Done!--Revanche (talk|contribs) 00:36, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
Ähm i mean the head title, and not the category, grml my language, the Category is fixt but the heading--Doneve 00:49, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
It can't be 'moved' like articles can. You have to redirect all pages to the new gallery (<-- see the spelling) and then delete the old one. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 01:46, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
Ah, ok, thanks.--Doneve 09:06, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

Spam[edit]

Hy Revanche please can you block User:Maychill101 he added a spam link, i delete the link.Greetings--Doneve 10:56, 12 April 2010 (UTC)

Done. Thanks. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 11:30, 12 April 2010 (UTC)
Hy Rev, i deleted a ----ing russian spamer User:AssaCom , please block this guy.--Doneve 10:08, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks Doneve. Blocked, prevented account creation, and deleted the spam user. Could we have an admin tool/button "Kill Spam User" to simplify the process? I am especially keen on blocking the IPs in question for further account creation, but I only ever block them for one year - I don't like infinite measures as a matter of principle. Frabby 10:21, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
We do need to develop a policy about that. And for some reason its been building up again.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 10:54, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
Hy Rev, can you take a look on User:SargethePoet he post this link http://sargethepoet.com, i don't now if it is a spamlink or not???Thanks --Doneve 20:40, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
Looks like a genuine user with a genuine personal bio on his userpage. No spam. I think this kind of links is allowed on user pages, I certainly see no problem if the user is a real person. Frabby 21:17, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
Hy Rev, please block user Xuebao hes a spamer, (i don't need nfl jerseys).--Doneve 05:49, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
Problem tackled with extreme prejudice. Frabby 15:59, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

SLDF Commands[edit]

Hy Revanche, i see you add some SLDFC forces from the Star League (sourcebook), but you add not all units, i want to do this when it is ok.--Doneve 15:37, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

Feel free, Doneve. I do have the intention of completing, but if I see you've done one already, I'll either make edits or move onto the next. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 15:58, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

colored image for units[edit]

Heya,
I have a question: Can we put color images as the main one, into templates? I did that during first uploads of my files, yet I recall they were removed and put as thumbs instead, with balck&white images staying as primary one. Now I see that Doneve does the same - so what is the policy - we put black&white images to templates, or colored to templates? The Colorful Project 16:45, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

There is no written policy (that I'm aware of); rather consensus appears to be to go with the most common single image for that particular article as the infobox image. I presume you are talking about vehicle (et al) articles (vice bios), so it appears to be consensus that TROs are the preferred sources for images. I cannot speak as to why, but please consider reviewing the BED consensus process, of which I am a big fan. It might be helpful, though the Discussion method might be the more appropriate.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 17:56, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Helping Hands[edit]

Hy Rev. I give you the Helping Hand Award, 3rd ribbon, for teachme some thinks, and for your great start of the SLDF section, i put up your example, and i hop i finish in next time the section, oh i forget for fixing my little failurs.Greetings--Doneve 17:12, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, Doneve.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 17:56, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

YES[edit]

Hy again Rev. yes you hit the nail, very very good work about the Reference posting, i know in my first steps i add no, or make a lot of mess...But the guys on the wike hammering this lapsus in my head Wink.gif, and i think it works well, and now you make the policy and i like it very well, top job (psss sorry for my speeling, gramming..;)...ähm is it a policy.----Doneve 22:14, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, but this is only a draft. I have a number of problems with it as it is written and it still hasn't been made available to the BTW corps of Editors.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 00:14, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
Ok I bring my spelling up to time, and give you 1 or 2 nutshells, i hope you like it, but i must have time, my brain rotates all the time what is the right way for references or..or, i talk to you on next day, my body is tired my wife is crying and iam down.--Doneve 00:26, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

"Ever-Shy"?[edit]

Rev, just saw this on the front page:

The ever-shy Mbear has accepted a position as BTW Admin.

I prefer to think of myself as "stealthy and modest" instead of shy. :) --Mbear 17:41, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

Sorry to intrude into this private conversation, but I happened to stumble upon this beautiful interpretation of the word "shy" and wanted to thank the creator of it for enlarging my treasure of words! :DRagTag 19:45, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
LOL. Well, I couldn't think of anything otherwise pithy to say. Please feel free to change the article, Mbear.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 11:32, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
Meh - Just put "doesn't put his banners on his own page, meaning Rev has to do it for him". :P:P:P (Yes, I'm kidding.) ClanWolverine101 15:42, 17 April 2010 (UTC)

On a wiki break[edit]

Hy Rev. i must drive in Wednesday to the Hospital, please can you take a look on my talkpages, when iam in the Hospital, I don't now how long i must take place in the Hospital. Thank you very much --Doneve 13:17, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

Ok. Hope things work out for you.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 14:41, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

Battle Value worksheet[edit]

Rev, please have a look at the template: User:Mbear/BVWorksheet. Comments welcome.--Mbear 14:11, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

Military Operations / Campaigns Category[edit]

Hi Rev, this is my semi-lengthy answer to your question. -- Wrangler 14:09, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

Also, there other info on Sarna.net i've wrote which is during the occupation of Luthiern. Read entry where your asking me about the military campaign category. -- Wrangler 15:55, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

SLDF Spliting[edit]

Hy Rev. my last day on the wiki, i hope i leave it not to long ;). I have a idea about the SLDF Forces, we create sub-categories, like this:

  • Forces their follow the Exodus of Aleksandr Kerensky
  • Forces their absorb by the Inner Sphere Houses
  • Forces their disbanded, or destroyed.

Ok a lot of units are not added, but when iam back i do this. It is a idea, then the page takes a blow up when all forces added. Have a good time. I'm back hopfully soon.--Doneve 15:50, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

I like it on the surface. If destroyed SLDF units rate a category, then maybe others do as well. I mean, "Cat:Inactive Units" with "Cat:Destroyed SLDF Units" as a sub-cat to that? Good luck tomorrow. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 20:31, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
.... why do I have the fear that my SLDF Royal article is gonna get merged? ClanWolverine101 00:22, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
How does an article get merged with a category? --Revanche (talk|contribs) 01:08, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
Unrelated : I think we should have a category for SLDF troops remaining in the Inner Sphere, units born out of the Exodus, including the ELH, the Crucis Lancers, the Deneb Light Cavalry, the 12th Star Guard, the Blue Star Irregulars, etc. ClanWolverine101 00:26, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
Really, just do it. If there is an interest and its supportable and non-repetitive, then I'm fine with it. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 01:08, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

Year Entry for 3071[edit]

Hi Rev, I noticed you were re-organizing the Year 3071. I had put a entry in for Beginning of the Ice Hellion's invasion, with wiki link in it instead of a reference since were doing the yearlist articles differient. I made comment in the Talk:3071‎ that individual battles unless they were huge should be left out, the reader should go to Ice Storm article read details. Alot worlds exchanged hands fairly quickly and rapidly. It may muck up the article with back and forth between contested worlds. -- Wrangler 11:35, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

Responded. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 11:56, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
Secondary Question: Related to Yearlist. We are no longer listing entrys with references unless its only appears in a Timeline only listing, is this correct? -- Wrangler 00:21, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
Example, please? --Revanche (talk|contribs) 00:33, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
25 Years of Art & Fiction has sleu of things that they put in the timeline that have not been put anywhere else. Such as Fall of Terra, Destruction of Gibson, etc. -- Wrangler 10:41, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
Ok, I see what you mean. Those timelines that appear in other books have facts about an event. Those facts need to be put into articles. Even if we don't know anything more than what the source timeline says about an event, we can create a stub article. The Year page statement then points at the article where that fact has been put.
Easy rule for me to follow: if the event is not notable enough to have an article written by someone, then it doesn't appear on the Year page. Year pages are ways for people to follow links to more information.
For example: BattleTech: 25 Years of Art & Fiction says, on p. 28, "Word of Blake occupies Gibson, their old capital" There are two facts there ("The Word of Blake occupies Gibson in 3071" & "Gibson used to be the capital of the Word of Blake") that need to be added to the Word of Blake and Gibson articles. The reference (<ref>''BattleTech: 25 Years of Art & Fiction'', p. 28, "3071"</ref>) is cited when you put those facts into the articles. Now you can show it on the Year page, because at least one article presents the facts to the BTW reader. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 10:50, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

Dumb Question #6387.1 : How do I change the name of an article?[edit]

Rev - How do I change the name of an article? ClanWolverine101 16:15, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

LOL! See the 'move' tab (after history, if its the same as for me)? That's the equivalent of re-name. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 19:30, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

SLDF[edit]

Hy Rev. I'am in work with the destroyed SLDF units, please can you take a look on this example, if it is ok about writing, errors, thanks.--Doneve 18:49, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

Welcome back, Doneve. I hope your future is healthier as a result.
It looks great: informative data in a well-formatted and -documented method. Good job. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 18:14, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
Hy, I'm on a good way, i hope i can start in 6-7 month in my old job.
Thanks.--Doneve 18:40, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
That long, really? Well, we all hope you can return too. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 23:15, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
Hy Rev, I found in the The Star League book, a discrepance. I found two 210th Mechanized Infantry Divison's, the 1st on page 147 and the 2nd on page 153, Fifth Army LV Corps 210th Mechanized Infantry Division (The Errai Laserers), i am a little bit confused about this, i think it is a print failur or...??? Have any one a answer.--06:37, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
LOL! With how deep you have gotten in those rolls, I'm surprised this is only the 1st mistake!
No problem: I interpret that as meaning the unit was divided between the two different different regions. It had operational elements in both the Draconis Combine and the Capellan Confederation. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 11:45, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Article Review[edit]

Rev - Was wondering if you could provide some feedback on my Battle of Mars article. Mbear and Scaletail both helped with cleanup, but I wanted to get a consensus on the material itself. ClanWolverine101 05:32, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

Hey, CW: sorry for the delay. Commenting on the article's talk page. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 15:44, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Okay, I think its just an unregistered Editor being silly. Some of the edits made to articles seem solid enough.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 18:49, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Missing/Deleted Articles[edit]

The Forestry Mech Article has been removed/deleted. It was estiblished by the writers that this Crosscut and DA ForestryMech are infact differient designs by the Battletech Writers on Forums while back. There was no note, or reference I've seen so far that said they wanted to remove or merge this article. Do you know what heck happened to it? ContructionMech was a similar fate apparent. I clearly remembering seen article written up for them. The ForestryMech was infact cited which makes me bit angry someone when and complete got rid of them. Where can i file a inquiery about this? -- Wrangler 00:09, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

I went to ForestryMech to see if I could find a history. I'm rather certain that when you click on a redlink from a deleted article, the system tells you that the article had been previously deleted and then gives you (Admins, at least) a chance to review the deletion. In the case of the ForestryMech, it doesn't do that, which tells me there was no article named precisely that.
I searched for "Forestry Mech" and and "Forestry 'Mech", with no success. In fact, the only evidence I have for it both involve discussions you were involved in, stating your intention of creating that article. You never linked to it (only the Crosscut). I'm sorry, Wrangler, but I see no evidence of deletion. Maybe ask Frabby, since he was involved in the Crosscut discussion with you?--Revanche (talk|contribs) 19:00, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
I found what happened. The information i thought was seperate information was originally part of the Crosscut article. Someone revised it and wiped out large chunk of the article regarding the ForestryMech. Which kinda annoying, but what can writer do? I'll see to making actual article for the ForestryMech since it is considered seperate machine from the Crosscut. -- Wrangler 21:46, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
Good. Glad to see nothing negative happenned. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 23:51, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Planet Infobox[edit]

Hy Revanche, can I update the Planet Infobox, like the Planetary Data posts on diverse planet pages, then we have all the data in the infobox!I make a test in the sandbox, can you take a look?--Doneve 13:03, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi, Doneve. Two things:
1 - I'm reluctant to 'authorize' changes to infoboxes, because its clear that there should be a consensus regarding these issues and I am an Editor, just like you.
2 - I do support it, as I feel that the planet articles really need some formalization, such as BattleMechs have enjoyed.
I recommend you bring it up at BattleTechWiki_talk:Project_Planets, and bring Frabby into the discussion. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 13:58, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Ok, thats fine. I expanded the sand... infobox with a refernce example, where the data comes like the heading reference --Planetar Data.... --. Doneve 14:04, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Cool...I like it. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 14:17, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Moratorium violations?[edit]

Rev, is Operation Klondike still on the moratorium list? I've seen several articles that cite it (Hoplite is one). If it's a moratorium violation, how do I let the author know? (I think there might be some confusion here because Record Sheets Operation Klondike isn't under a moratorium any longer, while Historical Operation Klondike is.)--Mbear 15:44, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

Mbear, the policy asks admins to simply inform the violating Editors of the policy and that the quoted source material is currently under the moratorium. It even provides code to 'wrap' around the 'offending' material in order to temporaily disable.
In the case you cite, I imagine the BV could have easily have come from the RS, but since the Editor(s) quoted the sourcebook, the material needs to either be disabled or re-cited. We don't take a firm, hard stick to this; but, as you have indicated, we do need to be reactive to it. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 17:03, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
The Hoplite example isn't a great one. How about the Sling? All that fluff text was pulled from Klondike.--Mbear 18:09, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
Yeah...that's a big difference. Rather than just disabling the whole article, I suggest you contact Citizen Erased and explain the situation in which this puts Sarna and Nic. If we don't have too many [define "too many"], we might be able to let it go, which I support. But I could see some calling for disabling or re-writing the articles until the time passes.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 18:45, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
Put a note on his talk page and emailed him.--Mbear 18:59, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I came across it while reviewing his contributions. Good catch, BTW. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 19:44, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

Notable pilots: Possible answer[edit]

Rev,

The notable pilots argument is heating up again. I think I've got a possible solution that will make everyone unhappy satisfy everyone equally. Please review: BattleTechWiki_talk:Project_BattleMechs/NotablePilots#Notable_Pilots_Sample_page. Thanks!--Mbear 14:19, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

For Mbear[edit]

The Notable Pilots Convo[edit]

Rev - I appreciate and respect your comments on the ever-lengthening subject. I personally feel my reaction was simple to what was written, as it was written, but perhaps the spirit didn't reflect that. (If that makes sense...) I want you to know that I will take some time and consider how best to respond. ClanWolverine101 03:14, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

I hear you and acknowledge understanding as to why you interpreted it the way you did. Being the outside observer in the exchange, I find and can empathize with both sides. Thanks for making the effort.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 00:59, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

Years Policy[edit]

Hey Rev - Where do we discuss the policy for the Year pages? ClanWolverine101 17:35, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, Doneve. I appreciate it. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 19:51, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Question[edit]

Hey Rev - Wanted to know when the Superior Article Awards would go up. Thanks! ClanWolverine101 08:11, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

I try to put one out every month, and I still 'owe' one for July, so Superior Article' should go live in September (hopefully at the beginning). --Revanche (talk|contribs) 11:12, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

Article Review : Ninyu Kerai Indrahar[edit]

Rev - Whenever you get a chance to give him a look-see. :) ClanWolverine101 07:12, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

CW, I DO want to read the article, but life has been busier than anticipated this summer (I had truly thought my being away from the family for the summer was going to open up plenty of hours to do my own writing here). I'm not ignoring it. Hopefully, I'll be back in some regular capacity in the next few days. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 12:44, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

Clan Space Maps[edit]

Hi Rev, hope you feeling better. Been while since i spoke with you. I have question/request. I have been recently doving into my files that could help update the Clan planet data. I've noticed some of the planets have maps. Is there way to lighten up the picture little? The black circle around the partical planet, like Albion is bit dark. Sorry to bother you. -- Wrangler 17:44, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

I definitely agree with you. And clicking on the larger image is only marginally better. Unfortunately, I have no PS skills and I'd be doubtful that image could be cleaned up by much. Without saying too much, I do believe we may be getting a new mapping source within a few months. Cross your fingers. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 12:45, 17 July 2010 (UTC)
Alrighty, I can ask around among newer people if they could assist. Some provided enhancement to recent Operation: Ice Storm page, so it could be something the person can look in to until you find something. -- Wrangler 03:47, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

Possible Problems with Sarna[edit]

Hi, Rev. I wanted report possible malware, but i don't want to sound like an alarmist. I left e-mail to Nicj as well, but until i started blocking it the ware was trying connect. What it is that when i was editing Sarna page. My browser was trying to connect to a weird website. This was from two differient computers. (http://contenlinks.netseer.com) Other Network computer i was using, the ones i have are old and dated so their slow. I clean out my cache as much as i can used virual scanners try get at what was reporting it. However, it wasn't until i wrote down the website used browser block sites option turn on. So I've blocked this website with my browsers. However, i'm wanted warn someone that there could possibly be something embedded in the Sarna's software reporting what were doing. — The preceding unsigned comment was posted by Wrangler (talkcontribs) 23 July 2010.

You're 100% certain that it was only when you were on Sarna? This didn't happen on any other websites? I understand you used a virus scanner on your computers, but maybe it's something new that they don't know to scan for? The link you provided is dead, so I can't imagine it's purpose. --Scaletail 22:56, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
Well, It was on two seperate computers not related to each other. It only happened notice it when i was editing the wiki-page. No other place seem i was accessing it wIt looks like its reporting on what i was typing. I've successfully blocked it using my IE browser blocking site function. I work at third location i access the site is part of a network and its has mighty Network protection so its not happening there. Way to tell its doing it, is the stupid malware keep trying access the site i described above during editing of webpage. I believe i won't not noticed it if wasn't for fact i have crappy connection or i won't not have noticed it. -- Wrangler 13:50, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

Attack of the 'Bots? Related to above[edit]

I see about 20 "new users" that suddenly have their talk page with the standard "Welcome" from Rev. No histories besides Rev's banner. They look like Bot programs to me. This may be related to the issue above. Thoughts? ClanWolverine101 02:25, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

Did you check their contributions?
When I'm active on a daily basis, I try and welcome new IPs. But, when I'm gone for a while, I go back and hit the ones that got missed by everyone, just in case someone new comes back and likes to see they've been acknowledged. So, yeah, it was me that posted those and they had all made contributions within the last 25 days or so.
As for the above problem, I'm not at all convinced it is not redirection software that beat Wrangler's anti-virus efforts. So far, he's the only person that reported those incidents. I think Scaletail's response pretty much summed it up. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 11:42, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
Well, when I checked, it looked like none of them had any contributions. Maybe I looked in the wrong place? It looked weird, about 20 accounts in a row, all just IPs, all with your "Welcome" update. If its no big deal, then no matter. ClanWolverine101 19:11, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
I don't think the bots have anything to do what my problem was. I hope was just my broweser. I just thought strange, i did extensive viral scans before it came up. My computer connections are crap at two locations, so i noticed something uploading while i was editing wiki-pages on sarna. I don't think anyone would noticed, but a quick loading while editing. -- Wrangler 13:50, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
I'm pretty tight with my ZoneAlarm, and I haven't had similar problems. I might have suggested it was with the Google ads Nic subcribes to, but since I know you're logged in, that wouldn't be it. I'd be suspicious of that explanation, anyhow. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 14:42, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
I'm currently on the Network, so my issues with malware isn't apparent. Its in the Easter Evening hours is when i'm on lesser capable computers. -- Wrangler 17:40, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
Speaking of Vandalism, Lemur, newly created user just did some advertisment vandalism to Essay: Combat DropShips 101‎. Is there a place where you would log vandalism? -- Wrangler 18:01, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
Probably just the Ask the Admin page. However, thanks for reverting it. Mbear took care of our cheap advertiser. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 03:12, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

Thomas Hogarth article deletion[edit]

Hi Rev, I need to voice my opinion here: I feel uncomfortable about how you deleted the article and placed a veiled vandalism accusation on the IP's talk page. I saw the article and noted it down for further reference as it needed a rework; I definitely agree that it wasn't up to BTW standards. But instead of vandalism I felt the article had a tongue-in-cheek attitude and should have been moved (to a normal spelling) and edited to comply with our established format. Deleting it, I feel, was over the top. We've really seen worse articles here from contributors who went on to become valuable members of the BTW community. Oh, and we certainly do need an article about Thomas Hogarth here, seeing how he evolved into a fan meme - he's definitely important to the present-day BT community. Frabby 12:35, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Frabby - for my own 2 cents - I can see it either way. It was obviously no minor cleanup job. Literally, you'd have to rewrite the entire thing. I'm all for properly encouraging new editors, but under those circumstances, I question the value of leaving it up. ClanWolverine101 13:46, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Frabby, I didn't see any attempt to add value. The article clearly (to me) was not intended to be informative. The writer did show writing skill, so it seemed like an advance form of graffiti. I acknowledge I came close to going overboard and writing a little rant, but I reined myself in and went with a template. I didn't think it was worthy of a lvl 1 (i.e., a first timer's wiki test masquerading as vandalism), but didn't think it needed the both barrels of a level 3 warning.
As for deleting it, I would not want it to be repeated with other articles we are 'missing' on notable subjects, and was concerned that keeping it just suggested acceptance of such attempts at editorial humor. I also felt the cleanup tag, especially in light of no description of what needed cleaning, only suggested it was not up to the formatting, referencing and similar other issues other so-tagged articles have. It needed to be cleaned up immediately, if it were to be kept or at the least have a step-by-step description of what needed to be fixed and added. As there was no {{inuse}} tag placed, I felt it was abandoned by all, would serve as a signpost towards the wrong direction and I knew I could not take the time to write an article of any value to replace it myself.
I respectfully think we may just have to agree to disagree, Frabby. However, I will consider bringing your attention to such similar...acts in the future, to allow you to address the problem. Good cop, bad cop. ;-) --Revanche (talk|contribs) 03:22, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I can see where you were coming from. Mind you, it felt like an overreaction at first glance and that was the gut feeling I went by because I feared it would leave a bad impression of BTW for a first-time editor. In the end, shame on BTW for not having an article on TH earlier, before someone went and created one.
Incidentially, it seems the fist "draft" of the article was a simple copy & paste of the first answer/second post in this tread of the CBT forum. Frabby 20:40, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

Clan Wolverine[edit]

The Clan Wolverine article history said that it was imported in December 2006, but it wasn't imported from Wikipedia. Where did it come from? --Scaletail 23:03, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

It says Clans (BattleTech). But maybe I'm missing your point? --Revanche (talk|contribs) 03:05, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
Nope. I just missed it. I saw that the text wasn't original and didn't see that the proper template had already been applied. --Scaletail 23:38, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
Question : On a related note, how much editing do we need to do to an article before we can drop the wikipedia tag? ClanWolverine101 01:17, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
I don't see why it should be dropped. --Scaletail 01:28, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
Agree. The link to the original article will demonstrate how the article has changed from the original and, frankly, forked from the equivalent WP article. Its just a way of covering our bases, to show we aren't re-creating and depending whole-cloth on articles from other sources, but using them only from which to develop ourselves. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 13:46, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
Oh, if you like. Personally, I prefer to rewrite them and then purge the wikipedia tags to show we're not depending on that for our stuff. After all, should any credible encyclopedia rely on information anyone can edit? ;) ClanWolverine101 06:05, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Problems with source articles for Manufactures[edit]

Hello Rev, i've got this article Aerospace Plant CM-T72673‎, which basicly is basing its existing on fluff i can't find. TRO: 3055 Update & Revised do not support that this factory even exists or that this clan produces it on this world. Doneve produced this article, but i'm not sure if he was rushing or using a differient language TRO that say something differient. I have the PDF both original and Update TROs. He citing the revised and update. The Update doesn't say the aircraft are remotely related to Fire Mandrill, other one of fighter uses the ship. Jagatai is a old Clan Wolf fighter, which they continue to be exclusive producers of it on Eden. Other fighter is Ghost Bear fighter thats build by various folks, but Upgrade TRO does not name factory itself or where. I've run into this another clan related manufacturing plant, Doneve written. I have problems communicating with him, can you talk to him about this? -- Wrangler 15:29, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi Rev, i spoke with Doneve. He apparently used Objective Raids: 3067 as his source for his clan manufacturing listings. He said i can edit what i have to out of them. I'm going have go through all those manufacturing articles, he made for the Clans see what actual has a source or note. *sigh* -- Wrangler 19:32, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
Still working on problem, side tracked by projects i'm working -- Wrangler 01:08, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

Talk[edit]

Hy Rev, i know you left us a little time, what is your mention about my Garrisoning Military Force Project on the Planet Pages, i hope you like it ;O..., i want to start in the next future my work in progress project, to bring all Planetary project up to date with owner history, new corrected planet images with help full fluff by Oystein Tvedten works, NicJ make a little bit mess about coordinates etc. etc...i am in work, before i started i poste a example to you and Frabby (our planet honk);=, then again nice to see you back. Greetings --Doneve 19:55, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

Hey, Doneve. No slight on your efforts, but I'm still a bit of a hit & run admin right now. I DO want to review it, but don't yet have the time. Example: I used to be able to write myself while at work; now I pull 10-hour days. Keep charging, though! --Revanche (talk|contribs) 23:48, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Strange Users Names[edit]

Hi Rev, couple of strange user names just got generated. Is there thing we can tell if their bots? The names are; Oxebydy & Uxewynefowi. -- Wrangler 22:50, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

No way that I'm aware of. It is usually an attempt to see if the registration process is defeat-able (it is, of course) and to hide spam attempts, since the person is registered. Best idea, when you're spam patrolling, is keep an eye out for edits made by strangely-named accounts and take action then. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 23:49, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
Looks a Spam poster just did just that after i logged off. Doneve blanked the page. I've moved to have it deleted. I'm not sure what template i'm suppose to use for a random act of spamming. The person may not come back. Their name is Tz6524199 -- Wrangler 10:47, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
I check BTW almost daily for Spammers. When I see one, here's what I do: Block the SpamBot, delete user page & user talk page, and delete/revert any edits he made. I don't think it is neccessary to wipe their edits or insert deletion tags; I'd prefer if these articles would not be edited at all prior to deletion (I'm not a programming geek at all, but I think the spammed pages may be monitored for traffic and editing them probably just makes them more interesting for a spambot machine). Frabby 11:12, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Tnx and I need your opinion[edit]

1st Tnx for the evidence for the danger of the delation of my upload.

2nd Which is the best way to show the weapons and their equivalent in the cbt without the fear of a copy => plagarism? I will show also the different ordonance type and ammunitions for the sidesarms / normal weapons. 18:54, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Hey, Doneve.
Sarna places the legality of an image upon the uploader, in the sense that you take legal responsibilities for ensuring the image is being used correctly. Per the 'copyright' you've included with each image: "The individual who uploaded this work and first used it in an article, and subsequent persons who place it into articles assert that this qualifies as fair use of the material under United States copyright law." In other words, you are claiming that you are using it correctly; this supposedly keeps Sarna from taking the legal and financial burden of improper use.
If you're asking how we can best show the images (if there are no ready articles for them), I'd recommend creating a gallery of the images, with the name of each image displayed. It appears you've assisted in plenty of those. These galleries serve as important showcases for available imagery for writers to use. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 19:02, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Hy Rev, Neuling post this on your talk page. It was a unsigned post from him ;).--Doneve 19:09, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Ugh...yep...sorry, Doneve. Definitely would not have happened if it had been signed. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 22:39, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Non-canon [images] of Terran Hegemony[edit]

Hi Rev, i'm trying fix a slight problem. Someone uploaded a non-canon [image] of the Terran Hegemony Map. There no label stating it is fan-made and not a product of canon source. Does anyone know what [we're] [supposed] to do about this? I've not [dealt] with a direct png image before. Usually these things have page that gives direction of the [image]. Someone thought the [image] uploaded was canon. Someone found it while trying make point about Hegemony, i think i've seen this [image] before in a non-canon FanMade PDF. -- Wrangler 02:37, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

Hey, Wrangler.
This request looks similar to one that was posted on the Admin Request page, but was placed in the 'completed' section. The 'completed' sboutnd similar problems. You'll probably want to move it up or 'close' out the problem with what I write about here.
As for your problem: in the Template gallery you'll find a tag for non-canon products. This can be slapped onto the page for that image file. That same page will also tell you what articles make use of the picture. Remove the link to the image on each of the articles, and we'll be good to go; eventually, when the image files are reviewed for unused links, an Admin will delete it as unused (unless someone then uses it in a fanon article).
Hope this helps. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 11:34, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
Hi Rev, I apologize for the sloppiness. The problem is not complete. I've moved this directly correct section. The *.png [image] from what i've seen of it can not be "tagged". Its a pure [image]. I'm not that good [at] navigating the picture achives where [images] do not show up in a category form, thus [are] unsearchable, [at] least to me. -- Wrangler 12:28, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
It's all right. Sometimes I have to fix the missing or incorrect statements in your writings so I can understand the problem (or intended statement). I often read and re-read both my works and others, to make sure I understand the intent.
As for your response, the proper course of action would appear to remove the link from any articles it appears. Once it is not used, upkeep of images will show it is not a valued image and result in its deletion. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 18:55, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

Other Non-canon imagines[edit]

Hi Rev, sorry keep babbling like this, but some maps Neuling uploaded were from Columbus Cartographic Services. I realize that he became a Battletech freelancer, but i don't believe his work on website was considered canon. Should i put non-canon templates on those [images]? You can find what i'm talking about on Category: Maps Gallery. -- Wrangler 02:44, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

Sounds like you figured out the solution before I chimed in. Wish I had read this statement before answering the first. Yep: that sounds like the right path. Just be sure to use the non-canon product tag.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 11:36, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

Minor Blakist Commanders[edit]

Hi Rev, how come your making articles for characters who have almost no background on them? Would it not be more ecomical to have a list of them in a single article page with their names list in row with what didbit of information on them listed besided them like how we have List of minor mercenary units? -- Wrangler 20:14, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

I have never subscribed to the list idea, though I understand the arguments for it. I just believe there should be one standard for all similar subjects to reduce the opportunity for error or duplicated efforts. That is a primary reason we don't have a policy requiring one over the other. Also, the reason I did so in these cases is because they are a part of Project Unfinished Book and since that is a page-by-page research project (vice a comprehensive subject search), there is no telling if or what new info will come available as I progress thru Jihad Turning Points: Luthien. This allows UBP researchers to work off of one shared article.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 23:13, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Use of Fan-made images[edit]

Hi, Rev. I had question regarding the issue with Neuling about his images posted. Some of them i believe he produced (example File:Operation rat.png), but he did not originally add imagine summary. He has this particular imagine in the Fourth Succession War article. Should the fan-made imagine be used? I've slap a fanom template on it so people know this is fan-made. However, question remains should it be used in canon article. In past, i've worked with Neuling colorize a canon pictures show border differiences. I've noted those pictures were modified. However, with recent events i'm wondering where this fall under the policy. I am torn, since i'm not sure the fanom template would be properate for modified canon images. Their useful show stuff that wasn't highlighted by original company, but i'm not sure what should be done about it. At moment, i've left the above mentioned operation rat.png in place, with fanom template on it. -- Wrangler 23:51, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

I've gotta ask: why do you keep writing "imagines" instead of "images"?
Also, why do you think they are fan-produced? Did Neuling say he made them?--Revanche (talk|contribs) 00:04, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
(sigh) I'm sorry, its a grammer-blind habit i have of misspelling things okay? Images he produced has no source. I have extensive collection of Battletech material, including the maps. I've not seen a modern imagine quite like that one, he has for Operation Rat. If its a canon image, from some obscure Battlecorp release or something, he needs clarifed the source of it. -- Wrangler 00:21, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
Can you please provide the link where he and you discussed this? I want to understand the context of his response before I decide on a course of action. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 00:24, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
File:Operation rat.png -- Wrangler 01:41, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
Wrangler: talk with Neuling about this. If he says its official, get the details and correct it. If he says its modified (other than cropped), remind him once again that non-official material has no place in official articles (I'm this close to calling for the ban of all fanon materials with a mass deletion). If he doesn't respond to you (within a reasonable amount of time), remove the image from the article and mark it for deletion review. Hope that helps. (Back to writing my own stuff now.)--Revanche (talk|contribs) 02:15, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
Hi Rev. He hasn't responded to any my inquiries about the png yet. He just posted new page about Clan Territory Wars File:Clanhomeworlds.png. -- Wrangler 19:37, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
Ok, I'm on it.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 20:26, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
Sorry for the delay. I searched and think about the png a lot of but I doesn't find my original source. Bad for me I know. I will find another canon map of the homeworld. --Neuling 21:13, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
There are plenty of official ones that can be found in the official products.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 23:49, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Martial arts + organized crime[edit]

I know it is strange first I doesn't reponded to your messages and now I call for support. Please forgive my. Now to my projects. 1st I find it interesting to read about martial arts in Classicbattletech Companion, but where it this stuff is best posted. The same with criminal organization. Any response is welcome. Neuling 21:13, 24 November 2010 (UTC) I think its probably fine to post articles titled after the subject you want to report about. However, make sure the material is focused on the BattleTech sources (such as Classic BattleTech Companion), rather than on real-world sources (like Wikipedia).--Revanche (talk|contribs) 23:49, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Tnx for your quick response. I used only the matertial from Classic BattleTech Companion which is very detailed. Under which category is it best posted.

There are a lot to choose from at Special:Categories, so look there first. If we don't have crime or martial arts ones, then use Category:Miscellaneous.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 08:55, 25 November 2010 (UTC)
