Welcome[edit]

Welcome to BattleTechWiki! Thank you for your help with the Xanthos article. I encourage you to introduce yourself at the new user log. You may also want to write a little something about yourself on your user page. The Manual of Style can help you make the most of your edits. If you want to continue helping us with 'Mech articles, you may want to consider signing up at Project BattleMechs and checking out that project's guidelines. Welcome aboard and I hope you keep helping us make BTW great! --Scaletail 17:24, 5 January 2009 (PST)

Jamison's Juggernauts[edit]

Hi Wrangler! I have seen the request you put on Scaletail's talk page. As a registered user, you should be able to "move" articles yourself (you should have a Move button in your toolbar), thereby changing their names. Moving does two things: It gives the article a new name, and it automatically creates a redirect page from the old name to the new name. In the case of a typo in the article name, what you usually do is move the article to the correct name then delete the wrong name. Not sure if registered users can delete articles though, or if that requires admin rights. I have done this for your Juggernauts article now. Frabby 01:42, 24 March 2009 (PDT)

Moratorium Violation[edit]

On the Rook article you added information from a recently published source. While you are not required to undo the edit you made or remove the reference, please be aware that this is in violation of the moratorium policy. This policy places a moratorium on using sources that have been published within the last two months, except in special circumstances. Thank you for your contribution to BattleTechWiki, and please keep this policy in mind when editing in the future. --Scaletail 16:43, 27 March 2009 (PDT)

How to Upload Images[edit]

Really not best person to ask as not staff. First up copyright wise, we really don't have a leg to stand on, we probably have far too much already like many BT sites and exist purely at the kindness/sufferance of the copyright holder. Preference for myself is to go for smaller image sizes to balance quality so the real books remain attractive, even though places like solaris7 have larger versions just as easily available.

Moving on, to upload click on "Upload file" under "Toolbox" toward the bottom lefthand side of the wiki. Upload page will ask you to locate file on your computer, and a text box you can fill in. Ultimately like everything on BTW, up to you/the uploader how much/how little. Once uploaded, merely enter in the file name in the desired field on the vehicle templates and that should be it. Cyc 20:07, 1 May 2009 (PDT)

Wrangler, you mentioned somewhere recently you didn't know how to use images. Is it the upload instructions that Cyc wrote here causing you problems, or is it the code? --Revanche (talk|contribs) 15:57, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
I forgot Cyc had mentioned left instructions for me. I apologize for that. I'm not sure how the files appear as pictures on the articles itself. I've tried duplicate this, but failed. I think it was because they were pdfs and not articles. Also, call me dense, but i get concerned when i'm taking pictures from PDF products. Though it/source safely pass the Moratorium period, i get uncertain if its free use or not. -- Wrangler 16:44, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
Don't worry about pictures here. That's the admins' fight to fight, and it doesn't have to be fought at all, right now. As long as they're not nude pictures of me, then you have no cause to worry.
I'm still uncertain as to what is causing you problems, tho. I can set up a sandbox for you to learn on, if so desired. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 17:05, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
Just saw you uploaded and utilized File:Raventhi's Iron Hand.jpg. Good job. And don't worry about coloring. We use what we have and an image adds to much value to an article, weather its B&W or color. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 01:25, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
Well, I just created a color version of the picture. Can you check out to see if this okay? -- Wrangler 01:37, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
Its not bad, at all. I checked it against the ref and it matches, at least for including red on a portion of the gauntlet. My only (trifling) concern is that it is only an interpretation of the unit's color logo, since it is not an official image. However, I think you've documented it well that the coloration is your own, so if an official one is ever released, it can be replaced. Good job. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 02:00, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

Category creation[edit]

I have to admit that I wasn't exactly made admin for my technical skills... but I think categories are "auto-created" when you include an article in the category. So you can just go and add the line [[Category: Nova Cat Characters]] to the bottom of the articles; this should be enough to create the category. If it doesn't, follow the red link to the category and edit the category page. I'll go now and try myself. Frabby 14:20, 9 May 2009 (PDT) Okay, to create a category page you evidently need to edit in some content. Done that now for Category:Clan Nova Cat Characters, seems to work alright. Frabby 14:24, 9 May 2009 (PDT)

Thanks for the Help Frabby, i sometimes have trouble understand many of the commands listed in the help file. Thank you for your help! -- Wrangler 17:57, 9 May 2009 (PDT)
Very interesting project wou're working in regards to the individual units. Definitely leads to some interesting finds. Good job! --Revanche (talk|contribs) 09:05, 16 June 2009 (PDT)
Thank you for compliment Revanche. I try add as many I can that have enough detail be listed. I'm adding units as I keep re-reading my novel collection. I'm going go back and added Militia unit from Surrender Your Dreams. Only problem is that I think the Writers at CGL are loosing track of many of the details! -- Wrangler 12:37, 16 June 2009 (PDT)
And BTW really has the opportunity to be a source, for just that reason. Spread the good word about BTW! Also, your project re-led me to Liberator, and my desire to update that with the recent BC short story regarding its discovery, which then led me to wanting to update the How To page we have for references. So...you've given me taskers now! --Revanche (talk|contribs) 14:04, 16 June 2009 (PDT)

Origin?[edit]

Hey, thanks for the massive amounts of productivity. I'm curious: where are you from? --Revanche (talk|contribs) 09:52, 30 June 2009 (PDT)

Well, i tend to keep my information to myself, but I can tell you i'm from central New England. Thanks for compliment, i'm trying hard not get into too much details or it will get to lengthy. I'm working on novel En Garde at moment. So i'm working on character profiles at moment. Since there significante amount of characters whom information not included here. I'm trying get them down and redefined. However alot of them are very storied characters and have multiple novel/source book connections. So i'm slowing down on my posts as I build up a good block of information. -- Wrangler 11:00, 30 June 2009 (PDT)
Wrangler, sending you an e-mail thru the site, at the address you registered. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 13:18, 30 June 2009 (PDT)

Flurry Clusters & Italics[edit]

Wrangler, I've sent you an email regarding the Ice Hellions unit you wanted information on.

Also, regarding refs: could you please italicize vice bolden the books? Since you are so productive, I'd love to bring you into line with the policies, so that your work can be pointed to as an example. Help:References may help with other formatting guidance for the citations (good job including all of those, btw), but I'll be making some suggested changes to that in the short term. I'll work with you on that score, if you don't mind being a model on my personal BTW runway. ("I'm too sexy for keyboard, too sexy for my keyboard...")--Revanche (talk|contribs) 19:47, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Hello Revanche, look into the references. I though i was doing okay. Sometimes my live editing does get me into trouble sometimes. I will go over the help files more closely. I am about look into the Flurry PDF you sent me so i can make descent article for the site. Thanks for sending it to me! -- Wrangler 18:30, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
Wrangler, I thought you were going to use italics instead of bolding titles, per Help:References. I thought I had been cleaning up articles before you switched over to italics, but is there some reason you are still using bold? --Revanche (talk|contribs) 00:56, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
I thought it stood out little more clearer. Since you didn't want redundant links of the same source in the reference all over the place. I'll stop doing that. Though I edit off line and when i transfer the italics over they get messed up and I have redo them. -- Wrangler 01:02, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I know the issue you're talking about. Maybe you are using double quotes (") instead of two single quotes ('')?--Revanche (talk|contribs) 01:09, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
I'm afraid i didn't, its something with translation of copying and pasting the items over from one medium to another. I am puting single (') in 99%. I usually notice when i mess the italics. -- Wrangler 01:25, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Signing[edit]

Don't forget to sign at User talk:Dmon, so he knows who is talking to him.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 16:33, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

I went back fixed. I press the send button by accident when I was typing fast. I could sworn I went back to fix it when i saw it. I guess it didn't save when did it. Sorry about it -- Wrangler 00:38, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

George Hasek I[edit]

Wrangler, could you take another attempt at that last sentence? It doesn't make any sense to me, so I don't know how to fix it. Thanks. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 17:35, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Freemont's Cuirassiers[edit]

Sorry I'm such a nag today. Would you take another look at the article? You write such good articles, chock full of specific information, but sometimes I feel as its lost in the confusion of your first draft. I really have a problem understanding what is being said in several places, especially with the first sentence: "The unit was formed from reserve military units in the Sarna Commonality in early 30th Century counter Federated Suns incursions into Capellan space." I know nothing about this unit other than what I've gleaned from your article, so when I wrote the opening statement, I didn't know if they were actually a FedSun unit (because it mentions their involvement with FedSun incursions into Capellan space) or what was intended. Maybe if you read it aloud, you'd see what I mean. It doesn't sound like a sentence at all. I think you meant one thing, but your brain was thinking much faster than your hands could type. I think a whole lot of necessary words got skipped. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 21:01, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

I corrected and spruced up the Freemont's Cuirassiers as best I could to improve article. There very limited information I have on this unit. I wanted create somewhat detailed article from the basic information I had. This unit has NO year of origin, so Early 30th Century is all I have to go by. Until and IF there a new detail Handbook for House Liao. That all i have. My copy of the both NAIS The Fourth Succession War Military Atlas Volume 1 NAIS and The Fourth Succession War Military Atlas Volume 2 bury at my home. So it may take bit for me find them. I did the Curassiers article on short notice and with limited time. Considering I'm little impaired at the moment. Since i have bio-articles coming along and i felt i need to have least this unit article out there. -- Wrangler 22:49, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
Wrangler, geez....I'm sorry. I wasn't nagging about stub material. Obviously, we don't want people making stuff up or assuming something. Your articles have always been factual. It was just the sentence I quoted above that made absolutely no sense to me and sense I didn't know the unit, nor what you were trying to say, I couldn't fix it. I figured only you could fix it.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 01:47, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

Comments on Revanche's talk page[edit]

Wrangler, while I understand what your intent was with your question about 2010, please avoid referring to other users negatively. What may be a joke to some could be insulting to others. Focus on the content, not the author. Thank you. --Scaletail 01:04, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

I apologize if this I came out that way. That was not my intentions. -- Wrangler 10:59, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
I know what you meant, and I understand. I also know how it could be taken. --Scaletail 00:13, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

Classification of DropShips[edit]

Much as I appreciate your input, I think the classification part is superflous and could be deleted. Since it was written by you, I would like to invite you to the discussion at Talk:DropShip#Classification of DropShips. Frabby 13:46, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

Yearlist[edit]

Hy, you see I adding some references to the yearlist (I am) not finished. I see in the 3053-3054 yearlist a template with categorys there list in event...technology...other minors.....can I use this for the other yearlist sites...to bring some flow and structure on it...what are you think.Doneve 21:04, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

Hello Doneve, I only added to the something i did. Many your references you've put in yearlist don't have enough information to really tell me exactly where you got your information. I'll help where I can but, i can't figure out where the references came from. I can't really help. -- Wrangler 11:50, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
Hy, Wrangler, I am not finished in the yearlist ther's a lot to do....but my last references makes no problems or, i used it from Handbook: House Marike and add some foot notes....in many yearlist there is no one reference....

Thank for your support Doneve 14:42, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

MWDA Dossiers[edit]

Wrangler, I've split the large PDF's from http://www.warrenborn.com/ into single page PDF files. Before I upload them though, or do any other modifications, I wanted to let you know that apparently I can export the PDFs to plain text which we could upload directly to BTW. (Be a big help for the Principes Guards, Hastati Sentinels, and Triarii Protectors articles.) I would have done this text export, but thought I should talk to you and Scaletail first. Thoughts? (Will crosspost to Scaletails talk page.)--Mbear 17:14, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi Mbear. I would keep them as PDFs, alot of the original documents from WizKids were PDFs and it widely used. We also it would show that they were modified if you translated to text. So seeing in its original pdf from the original WizKids website. -- Wrangler 15:03, 29 November 2009 (UTC)
OK then. I'll upload the individual files and let you know where they are when I'm done. --Mbear 18:27, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
Sorry I didn't respond earlier. I was on vacation. I think this is a great solution. Now to fix all those dead links to Wizkids.... --Scaletail 20:56, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
No problem. I've uploaded most of the individual files here. Sorry that I quit linking to the contents ("It covers: Some character & some unit") but there's a lot of these files. I've got 90 more to upload and comment on, so I hope you understand. Also, the order of the sheets is weird in the table (going from 1 to 10) because my computer got confused. Oh well. At least we've got a start! ;) --Mbear 21:05, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
Good news! All the single page PDFs have been uploaded. Hopefully this will do it. Now you just have to update the links. (Shouldn't be too terrible though.) --Mbear 21:46, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

Completed[edit]

Question[edit]

Hy I found in the net an Field Manual: Terran Republic, it is not an offical publicated product...can I use this in BattleTech Wiki. When how ever has question on it...i can send you the Fiel Manual. Doneve 12:33, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

Hi Doneve. I have one those field manuals. Unfortunately, its non-canon. Its fan made product. It should not be mixed in on here. They changed some of the details of history to reflect their views of the Battletech universe. Please don't use - Wrangler 12:35, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
Hy Wrangler thanx for the answer, I don't use it.I hope the reference problem by myself is corrected...I am in work.

GreetingsDoneve 12:43, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

Hello Doneve, what the problem your trying to get a reference on? I have number of books that I can refer to. Maybe I can help you. -- Wrangler 14:16, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
