Warrant Officer

(Redirected from Warrant Officer First Class)

Warrant Officer is a rank given to specialist enlisted soldiers who do not wish to exercise command over their fellow soldiers, but have highly developed technical skills.

SLDF[edit]

Warrant Officers in the SLDF receive the pay and status of a Lieutenant, but they have no command responsibilities. They're not considered regular combat troops, they're high-ranking enlisted soldiers who have a great deal of technical knowledge and serve as work crew leaders.[1] Their insignia is a single blue bar.

Lyran Commonwealth and Lyran Alliance[edit]

The LAAF, like the LCAF before it, has several official ranks assigned to technical personnel. These various Warrant Officer ranks are used to indicate the seniority of the various enlisted technical experts employed by the LAAF. Unlike most military forces, the LAAF has unique rank insignia for its Warrant Officers.

A Warrant Officer is an engineer, mechanic, or tech assigned to perform repairs to 'Mechs, aerospace fighters, or tanks. They can be considered the technical equivalent of a Corporal.[4]

A Warrant Officer First Class is roughly equivalent to a Sergeant, leading work details. Only a Warrant Officer who demonstrates excellent technical and administrative skills will be promoted to Warrant Officer First Class.

A Senior Warrant Officer is the commander of a noncombat technical post or a unit's technical detachments. Though most of the duties at this level are administrative, a Senior Warrant Officer will reach this post only after mastering their fields.[5]

The Chief Warrant Officer is the highest rank that a technician can reach in the LAAF. They often oversee major technical facilities, their time and attention overwhelmed by the various administrative tasks. Even with all these demands on their time, a Chief Warrant Officer is still expected to keep current with new developments in their field. The lead LAAF inspector assigned to Defiance Industries and Coventry Metal Works will likely be a Chief Warrant Officer, reporting his findings to the Quartermaster Corps or Rep-Dep Corps representative.

Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery[edit]

The DCMS uses several different ranks to refer to its technical experts, including Petty Officer, Chief Petty Officer, Master Chief Petty Officer, and Senior Master Chief Petty Officer.[6]
