The Dark Age[edit]
The Fourteenth Principes Guards was a newly-raised regiment by 3145, just like its sister regiment, the Fifteenth Principes Guards. Unlike the Fifteenth, the Fourteenth had the distinction of being raised almost entirely from a single world - Elgin. The commanding officer of the Fourteenth, Colonel Owen Boyle, was a distant relative of the Captain Edward T. Elgin for whom the planet was renamed centuries earlier.[1]
Sometime between their formation and October 3145, they deployed to Zurich to destroy a series of CCAF resupply points.[2][3][4][5]
The Department of Requisition and Replacement began deploying additional equipment to the Fourteenth to help speed up the unit's growth after witnessing the impressive results Colonel Boyle was achieving with his new command - Boyle was pushing the Fourteenth hard in training, with the various battalions rarely being seen away from the training fields.[1]
In 3149 a battalion of the Fourteenth was deployed on Outreach where they faced the Holdfast Guard and Warrior House Imarra. The Principes battalion took heavy losses in this engagement.[6] The fighting was so great that the battalion was effectively destroyed.[7]
The other battalion of the Fourteenth was stationed on Hall. When the 2nd McCarron's Armored Cavalry and 2nd Liao Guards dropped on the world on 3 February, the Fourteenth's Second Battalion rampaged through the 2nd MAC's landing zone. After inflicting serious damage they withdrew. They led the CCAF troops on a merry chase for several weeks thereafter, but were eventually destroyed.[8]
