Planetary History[edit]
First Succession War[edit]
Xhosa VII was invaded during the first half of the major invasion into the Federated Suns launched by the Draconis Combine in May 2787.[15] Xhosa VII was liberated by the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns in 2811–2812 as part of the third and final major AFFS counteroffensive of the First Succession War against the Draconis Combine.[17]
Third Succession War[edit]
In 3022, Mercer Ravannion selected Xhosa for the second test of his Horde doctrine. The ensuing battle not only served to further discredit the Horde theory, but helped cast the Blackjack in a better light.[53][54]
Jihad[edit]
Having been subject to a number of deep raids across several worlds by Federated Suns commandos and Draconis March forces seeking POWs from the FedCom Civil War in early August 3068,[55] the Draconis Combine retaliated by launching a series of raids and attacks against Federated Suns worlds. The retaliatory attacks took place in the second week of September, and Xhosa VII was one of the worlds captured by Combine forces.[44] The First Sword of Light conquered Xhosa VII in 3068 after the Xhosa VII Militia surrendered.[56] They repelled five separate Federated Suns counterattacks, only leaving the world in 3074 to join Operation SCOUR.[57]
Dark Age[edit]
Xhosa VII easily fell to the Second Legion of Vega in 3144 or 3145 when the Draconis Combine invaded the Federated Suns.[58]
Military Deployment[edit]
3038[edit]
3050[edit]
- Davion Light Guards RCT[62]
3068[edit]
- Xhosa Draconis March Militia (until it's surrender)[56]
- First Sword of Light from 12 September 3068 onward[56]
Geography[edit]
Xhosa has been described as an ice world, with at least one frigid, barren plain.[53][65][66]
Planetary Locations[edit]
- Ginti: a city[67]
- Plain of Swords: a mostly flat desolate wasteland where the famous Horde battle was fought[66]
- Tar Ior: a city[68]
Notes[edit]
- The database of the (apocryphal) 1989 video game MechWarrior, set around the year 3025, gives a population of 2.975 billion for Xhosa VII and describes the environment as "tropical" (out of only three broad impressions of planetary environments given in the game, these being "desert," "ice," and "tropical"). The description one-liner reads "Aerospace industry somewhat depressed by war."
- Xhosa VII is mentioned in the write-up for the Blackjack in both the Technical Readout: 3025 and Technical Readout: 3039, where it is described as an ice world. The "tropical" climate described in the MechWarrior video game therefore seems to be in error given the (fully canonical) Technical Readouts which were published in 1986 and 2009, respectively, i.e. both before and after.
