Overview[edit]
Yakima Enterprises is best known for its manufacture of the Dragonstar Passenger Transport, the workhorse design of the Draconis Combine's intersystem transport network from the era of the Star League til at least the Jihad era, ferrying passengers between planets and larger vessels waiting either in orbit or at a system's primary jump points. While introduced in 2610 at the height of the Star League era, Yakima chose to model the Dragonstar's aesthetics on the original Dragon's Star vessels that were emblematic of the diplomatic efforts of the newborn and expanding Draconis Combine, just with modernized avionics and other systems.[1]
Relatively cheap for Yakima to build, Dragonstars are notoriously prone to breakdown which drives up repair costs and most Combine transportation firms opt to retire examples after 1000 AU of travel in favor of purchasing newly manufactured replacements instead. Yakami is well aware of this paradigm and survives thanks to both heavy government subsidies but also an extensive secondary market in salvaging and stripping older vessels for parts, parts which Yakima is frequently known to reuse in newly built vessels. Despite this, trust in the Dragonstar product among operators is near fanatical.[1]
The ubiquitous nature of the Dragonstar PT meant that with the Clan Invasion era introduction of Battle Armor and general resurgence of naval warfare the Draconis Combine Admiralty approached Yakima to develop an assault craft variation of the vessel in 3059. With minimal changes to its armor, engine and weapon bays, thanks to the more militaristic themed eye of even commercial Combine engineers, the Dragonstar Assault Transport began arriving at DCA installations barely a year later in 3060.[1]
