History[edit]
The Yoninisuu were formed in the Clan Invasion Era and were one of the first squads t be given then-prototype Kage battle armor. Since then their reputation has achieved nearly mythic proportions among the DEST. They were among the defenders of Coordinator Theodore Kurita during the 3058 assassination attempt by the Kokuryu-kai. Managing to survive the subsequent ISF purges intact, they managed to take no casualties from the '58 attempt until at least 3070, including the rescue of Coordinator Hohiro Kurita from Word of Blake captivity on Dieron in early 3069.[1]
Their exploits in the Dieron rescue formed the basis of the popular holodrama The Duty of Honor which debuted in the summer of '69.[1]
The Yoninisuu were inserted on Word of Blake occupied Vega in early 3070 to conduct guerilla operations, and remained there until around mid 3078. During that time they observed Clan Ghost Bear scientist-caste testing Blakist corpses for Clan Wolverine DNA while they attempted to validate The Blood conspiracy theory.[1][2][3]
This DEST unit was selected to run the field trials of the first squad of Kage Cs. After their campaign on Vega the Yoninisuu were given a brief retraining period on New Samarkand to evaluate the Kage C. The team was vocal in its displeasure at the lack of offensive weaponry, and stated that they were ill suited to actual battle, but New Samarkand Metals claimed the trials were successful as per the capabilities and tasks given to the unit.[3]
