<br />
==Description==<br />
Developed by Team Banzai as the big brother of the highly successful Hatchetman, the Axman was designed exclusively to be a 'Mech killer. The Axman was also intended as a symbol of solidarity throughout the Federated Commonwealth by using components that were produced in the Federated Suns, Lyran Commonwealth, and even former Capellan Confederation space. The collapse of the Federated Commonwealth in 3057 almost rendered the design extinct because of this, production slowing to a trickle as both the Federated Suns and Lyran Alliance were forced to rely on surplus stores while developing new variants utilizing locally sourced components.<br />
<br />
The Axman has a ground speed of only 64.8 km/h, which is average for a Heavy weight, but improved in part by the inclusion of Jump Jets. The 'Mech is covered with eleven tons of Ferro-Fibrous armor that gives it a great deal of protection, with ten Double Heat Sinks offering average heat dissipation. Much like its lighter brother, the Axman was designed to utilize the Full-Head Ejection System to safe-guard its MechWarrior.<br />
<br />
==Weapons and Equipment==<br />
The two primary weapons on board the Axman are its massive Hatchet, which alone weighs five tons and can cleave through enemy 'Mech armor like a knife through butter, and a Luxor Devastator-20 Autocannon/20, which can strip over a ton of armor off of an enemy 'Mech with ease. The 'Mech also carries a trio of Intek Medium Lasers and a highly accurate Sutel Precision Line Large Pulse Laser for short to intermediate range combat.<br />
<br />
==Variants==<br />
*;AXM-2N : The 2N variant of the Axman, introduced in the late 3040s, has been called a mistake by some and a stroke of genius by others. The 2N carries two Coventry Star Fire LRM-15 launchers in place of the massive Autocannon/20 as the autocannon often jammed on early models. While this changes the 'Mech's role from a city fighter to a long-range bombardment 'Mech, it also allows the Axman to be a support 'Mech that can defend itself with its massive Hatchet at ranges where the LRMs are ineffective if an enemy closes. BV (1.0) = 1,238, BV (2.0) = 1,458<br />
<br />
*;AXM-3S : The Furillo manufactured 3S introduced in 3060 removes the XL Engine of the 1N and 2N variants and replaces it with a Light Fusion Engine. This exclusively Lyran variant of the Axman is armed with a massive LB-X Autocannon/20, which allows it to fire either solid rounds or cluster rounds that act like a 'Mech sized shotgun. The 'Mech also carries three ER Medium Lasers for close combat and a Guardian ECM Suite, which defends against enemy electronic warfare equipment. BV (1.0) = 1,499 (1,403), BV (2.0) = 1,649<br />
<br />
*;AMX-3Sr : This variant was introduced in 3069 and uses a Rotary Autocannon/5 as its main gun, supplemented by an extra Medium Pulse Laser. By adding a C3 Slave it can share targeting data with its lancemates, and an extra heat sink helps dissipate heat. BV (2.0) = 1,743<br />
<br />
*;AXM-4D : An attempt to reduce reliance upon foreign equipment, this exclusively Davion variant replaced the 1N line on New Syrtis in 3071. It drops the jump jets, lasers, and large-bore autocannon in favor of four Light Autocannon/5s, supplemented by two medium lasers. Two tons of ammunition stored in a CASE protected bay allows for some flexibility in the choice of munitions. A Targeting Computer improves the accuracy of all the weapons on the 'Mech. It uses Ferro-Fibrous armor for protection. BV (1.0) = ??, BV (2.0) = 1,222<br />
<br />
*;AXM-5N : A prototype in 3146 whose production was delayed only due to lack parts, the AXM-5N was rapidly built for the desperate AFFS after the Davion recapture of New Syrtis from the Capellans. Using a number of components shared with the Hatchetman 7D and Caesar 5D, the AXM-5N carries a Tiburon Khanate supplied HAG 20 in its right torso supported by a left-arm mounted Sea Fox Clan ER PPC and a trio of IS-grade ER Medium Lasers on the right-arm. Fitted with a Guardian ECM Suite, through carrying three tons of HAG reloads, the AXM-5N primarily relies on its energy weaponry to activate its Triple Strength Myomer to enhance both its speed and the damage inflicted with its hatchet. BV (2.0) = 2,575<br />
<br />
*;AXM-6T : This is the production variant of the AXM-6X described under "Custom Variants". This version, introduced in 3083, uses an Inner Sphere produced XL engine and lacks the Supercharger of the 6X. The top speed of the 6T is 86 km/h. The armor protection and weapon configuration are identical to the Axman 6X, but the Thunderbolt launchers have two tons of ammunition each. BV (2.0) = 1,830 (The handheld weapons listed for the 6X are also used by the 6T.)<br />
<br />
===Custom Variants ===<br />
*;AXM-6X : This Axman variant introduced in 3074, and uses several experimental systems as a technology testbed. The hatchet and standard weaponry have been removed. In their place is a pair of Thunderbolt 15 missile launchers in the torso, while each leg mounts a pair of ER Medium Lasers. This is important, as the 6X uses several handheld weapons to provide its main firepower. A Clan-spec engine coupled with a Supercharger keeps the 6X moving at high speeds. Though the Thunderbolt missiles provide some firepower, they're only supported by a ton of ammunition. BV (2.0) = 2,132<br />
<br />
:The weapons systems available to the 6X include:<br />

==Description==<br />
Originally a failed BattleMech concept designed to have a smaller forward profile, the Bushwacker would ultimately become a popular Clan Invasion era BattleMech in use within both halves of the Federated Commonwealth. <br />
<br />
Under development on the cusp of the Clan Invasion, the ambitious and unorthodox design of the Bushwacker featured a low-slung and narrow upper torso to present minimal target profile to enemy units. Unfortunately this resulted in a complex and crowded internal layout, with the 'Mech's fusion engine's close proximity to the sensor and communication system resulting in electronic interference and system failures. Unable to overcome these issues, though the evaluators were impressed by the basic design and its capabilities, the 'Mech seemed destined for the scrap-heap.<br />
<br />
The Bushwacker was ultimately saved by the Clan juggernaut following a successful Armed Forces of the Federated Commonwealth raid against a Clan Jade Falcon base on Twycross, FedCom forces securing a treasure trove of schematics and technical data on numerous Clan designs, including the Vulture. Though a more vertical design, the Clan OmniMech shared the same compressed volume issues, with the Clan engineers making several unusual decisions in its internal layout to alleviate the interference problem. With the TharHes engineers able to adapt the Clan solution to the Bushwacker, re-configuring its internal structure, the 'Mech was given a second lease on life.<br />
<br />
Full scale production of the corrected Bushwacker began in 3053 on Tharkad following the Truce of Tukayyid, though many FedCom units who served on the Clan frontlines received pre-production models during the initial invasion. This led to the 'Mech being most numerous on the Clan/Lyran Alliance border immediately following the succession, though by the conclusion of the Civil War the Bushwacker could be found in almost every first echelon unit in both halves of the Federated Commonwealth. For some unknown reason the Bushwacker has since become a favorite of MechWarriors in the Draconis and Capellan Marches of the Federated Suns.<br />
<br />
With TharHes Industries badly damaged during the Jihad and Word of Blake occupation of Tharkad, the company was forced to sell off the Bushwacker plans to raise much-needed capital to rebuild its production lines. Purchased by Coventry Metal Works, that company used the specs to create the Gauntlet OmniMech, with modern Bushwacker models sharing a similar frame and various other components with it, allowing both CMW and TI to reduce costs for both designs through economies of scale. Though the OmniMech was intended as an exclusively Lyran design, the Bushwacker is not so restricted and is exported outside the Commonwealth, remaining popular within the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns even during the Dark Age Era.<br />
<br />
==Weapons and Equipment==<br />
The Bushwacker has a top speed of 86.4 km/h and carries nine tons of armor. What the 'Mech lacks in protection it makes up for in range, using its speed to keep enemies at arm's length while using its slew of long range weaponry to slowly wear down enemies.<br />
<br />
In an attempt to keep the enemy at as long a range as possible, the Bushwacker carries two Federated 5-Shot LRM-5 launchers. The LRM-5s give it the capability to give some indirect fire support as well as laying down minefields with specialized munitions. These are backed up by a Sweetshot ER Large Laser and an eighty millimeter Mydron Model B Autocannon/10, which give the 'Mech a powerful long range direct-fire punch. A pair of Johnston Minigun Machine Guns are the only short range weapons carried by the 'Mech.<br />
<br />
==Variants==<br />
*;BSW-X2 : Based on the standard Bushwacker, this simple variant removes the ER Large Laser and replaces it with an additional LRM-5 launcher in the torso and a pair of Medium Pulse Lasers. It also drops one heat sink. BV (2.0) = 1,193<br />
<br />
*;BSW-X4 : Considered the export counterpart to the Gauntlet, the X4 is constructed around a similar Endo Steel frame, Light Ferro-Fibrous and MASC as the OmniMech, but a swap to 275 XL Engine allows it carry more equipment. It's primary weapon is a right arm-mounted Plasma Rifle in support of an ER Large Laser, twin Medium Lasers and paired MML 5s, the X4 carrying two tons of plasma rounds and two tons of missile reloads, normally one each of SRM and LRM. BV (2.0) = 1,751<br />
<br />
*;BSW-L1 : The L1 variant of the Bushwacker is a configuration that changes the 'Mech to a close combat unit. The only long range weapon on the L1 variant is an ER Large Laser. For close combat, the L1 carries an LB-X Autocannon/20 that can fire either standard or cluster ammunition, adding versatility to the crippling firepower of this extremely deadly close combat weapon. Two and a half tons of additional armor was added to the BSW-L1, giving excellent armor protection. The L1 saw its engine upgraded to a Light Fusion Engine for increased survivability. BV (1.0) = 1,342 (1,264), BV (2.0) = 1,513<br />
<br />
*;BSW-S2 : The S2 is a variant of the Bushwacker that makes the 'Mech more effective at short to medium ranges. The 'Mech carries an ER Large Laser to allow the 'Mech to engage an enemy at long ranges as it closes. The 'Mech carries an LB-X Autocannon/10, which can fire both standard and cluster ammunition for long to medium range engagement capabilities. For close combat, the 'Mech has two SRM-4 launchers, making it a powerful unit at any range. For added defense, the S2 carries an Anti-Missile System. BV (1.0) = 1,103, (1,123), BV (2.0) = 1,293<br />
<br />
*;BSW-S2r : This variant mounts a Plasma Rifle and ammunition in place of one of the SRM launchers and the ER Large Laser of the BSW-S2. BV (2.0) = 1,339<br />
<br />
===Apocryphal Variants===<br />
ApocryphalContentStart<br />
These variants presented here were introduced in Online, and thus far have not appeared in any canonical media.<br />
<br />
*;BSW-P1 : A missile boat in the mold of the X2, the P1 moves one of the left-torso LRM-5 launchers to the right torso, retaining the X1's center torso mounted ER Large Laser by replacing the AC/10 with lighter AC/5 and removing the Machine Guns. Removing the CASE, the P1 also exchanges the Ferro-Fibrous armor of the standard Bushwacker for an Endo Steel frame, the extra weight saved allowing it to carry three tons of LRM missiles, two tons of autocannon rounds and mount thirteen double heat sinks.<br />
<br />
*;BSW-P2 : Built for increased field endurance, the P2 moves the X1's ER Large Laser to the right-arm mount that previously held the AC/10 and installs the X2's twin Medium Pulse lasers in the center torso. Retaining the LRM-5s and Machine Guns, any loss in protection by removing the Ferro-Fibrous armor and CASE is mitigated be carrying more standard armor made possible by a swap to an Endo Steel frame. A single ton of missile and machine gun reloads each and sixteen double heat sinks give the P2 good endurance in battle.<br />
<br />
*;BSW-HR High Roller : While all indications are that Valten Ryder piloted a standard (albeit prototype) BSW-X1 variant, some sources indicate his so-called High Roller was refitted, dropping the left-arm mounted LRM-5 launcher for a brace of three Medium Lasers, exchanging the Ferro-Fibrous armor and CASE for Endo Steel to carry an extra half ton of Machine Guns reloads and an extra double heat sink.<br />

==Notable pilots== <br />
* Sergeant Major Amanda Black, officer of the Kathil Capellan March Militia fought in a Bushwacker in the first battle of Kathil, the earliest stage of the Civil War.<br />
* "Captain" Valten Ryder, member of the 1st Somerset Strikers exchanged his CN9-A Centurion for the original prototype Bushwhacker during the early stages of the Clan invasion.<br />
<br />
==Related 'Mechs==<br />
*Mad Dog - TharHes's design of the Bushwacker had been complicated by space-constraints within the torso, leading to system glitches. When the Federated Commonwealth encountered the Clans' Mad Dog, the Bushwackers torso was reorganized based on captured and salvaged samples. The resulting BattleMech was free of glitches, and quickly put into production.<br />
*Barghest - TharHes, at the behest of Archon Katrina Steiner-Davion, constructed a new quad BattleMech based on the Bushwacker. The chassis was modified by moving the legs forward and adding a second pair of legs in the rear, followed by increasing the mass of the chassis by 15 tons.<br />
*Gauntlet - Purchasing the plans for the Bushwacker following the Jihad, Coventry Metal Works sought to use them to fulfill Archon Adam Steiner's request for a medium-weight OmniMech embodying the Lyran spirit. Despite working from an existing 'Mech and with the Archon's tacit approval, technical issues and Social General interference would delay the introduction of the Gauntlet until 3128. <br />

A Long Tom III artillery piece is also mounted in the top (forward) section of Fortress class DropShips, giving them significant firepower on the ground.<br />
<br />
== Game Rules ==<br />
The Long Tom is the largest Artillery piece that can be mounted on a vehicle, taking up 15 critical slots on a support vehicle. It also has the longest range of any non Cruise Missile type weapon. It deals the highest damage of conventional tube artillery, at 25 damage with direct impact using conventional (high-explosive) ammunition.<br />
<br />
The Long Tom artillery's ammunition options include Smoke, Anti-Personnel, Illumination, Copperhead, Flechette, Thunder/FASCAM, Cluster, and High Explosive Rounds (High Explosive rounds considered the "Standard" rounds for tube artilery).<br />
<br />
The Long Tom can also fire Davy Crockett-M tactical nuclear devices but these are significantly heavier than normal non nuclear rounds (represented in game rules by being one shot per ton unlike normal rounds) but other than their nuclear weapon effects behave like normal rounds.<br />

== Description ==<br />
The Arrow IV is a stand-alone, missile based, artillery system, designed to augment conventional systems such as the Long Tom and the Sniper. It was first introduced by the Terran Hegemony in 2593 and became a staple of the Star League Defense Force by 2600. Although the technology to create Arrow IVs was lost during the Star League's collapse, it was recovered by Capellan Confederation engineers in 3044 working off of surviving examples and the Helm Memory Core. <br />
<br />
Arrow IV launchers can be equipped with standard unguided area saturation missiles, causing massive damage to any unit within its 45-meter blast radius, or homing missiles which work in concert with forward units carrying Target Acquisition Gear to lessen collateral damage. The Prototype (known as the Arrow-P) version is bulkier and heavier than a standard Arrow IV launcher by a ton, and can only carry 4 shots per ton of conventional homing ammo. The Clan version is lighter than both, and can also deliver a FASCAM (Field Artillery Scatterable Mines) round.<br />

<div>MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries/High Reward Quests<br />
==Overview==<br />
Half-way between MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries common procedurally generated Contracts and the story progressing Campaign Missions, High Reward Quests are partially pre-scripted missions with increased difficulty and enhanced rewards. The base game featured forty-four High Reward Quests with the [[Heroes of the Inner Sphere DLC an additional eleven High Reward Quests.<br />
<br />
Similar to the BattleTech video game's Flashpoints, MW5's High Reward Quests are mini-campaigns, ranging from one to multiple missions tied together in a single story, relating to background topics from the BattleTech universe or mercenary moral quandaries related to the conflict between duty to the contract or honorable conduct. Unlike Multi-Mission Operations, each High Reward Quest mission does not have to completed consecutively and will generally take place across multiple systems inside the same Conflict Zone. High Reward Quests will list the C-Bill and Reputation rewards they offer openly, but will hide any enhanced additional rewards until the completion of the final mission - though the list of them below exposes this.<br />
<br />
While most quests are for a single employer, some quest strings give the player the option of completing missions via one of two opposing employers, for example two of the warring Great Houses, with the player warned they will only be able to select one to pursue. Some quests additionally have this choice to change faction in the middle or at the final mission, again the player can only select one path to take.<br />
<br />
Though High Reward Quests feature scripted lines from the Cavalier Operations Officer Ryana Campbell and specific events, they are not fully scripted like the campaign missions so still have a degree of variability in map design and enemy 'Mech selection in each playthrough or even if a mission is restarted.<br />
<br />
Much like the Campaign Missions, High Reward Quests require the player to reach the specific Reputation Level of zone in which they are hosted. However, unlike the Campaign missions, High Reward Quests are entirely optional and can be skipped. They do not expire so it is possible to return to them later, indeed even after the Campaign is completed, though their rewards, difficulty and tonnage restrictions do not scale and are static.<br />
<br />
A list of the available High Reward Quests in MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, broken down by Reputation level for both Campaign and Career Modes, follows:<br />

<br />
Notes: In the final mission, standing in the lava will spike 'Mech heat to around 60-70%, depending on capacity and heatsinks, but does not seem to deal damage. In addition, the final approach to Aditi is a narrow, upward-spiralling pass that leads into an 'arena' of sorts. Whilst Aditi only has two allies, she pilots the Yad al-Jauza, her teammates similarly pilot SLDF-grade 'Mechs, and all pilots are highly skilled; an aggressive push into the final arena to gain maneuvering room is recommended to avoid being bottled up in the pass. Close-quarters loadouts are also advised, due to the rough terrain limiting sniping and many encounters taking place within minimum range of LRMs.<br />

While the system is engaged, the 'Mech is more difficult to track at anything other than short range, with the Beagle Active Probe and its unbranded Clan equivalent unable to locate a hidden unit with its null signature system engaged. Only the modern and experimental Bloodhound Active Probe can penetrate the null signature masking.<br />
<br />
Like many pieces of advanced technology, the Null Signature System and the 'Mechs that carried it became LosTech during the maelstrom of the early Succession Wars. Outside of the Word of Blake, all modern examples of the Null Signature System in the Inner Sphere are either experimental prototypes such as that carried by the Werewolf or exceedingly rare surviving examples from the original Star League, with the Capellan Confederation the Successor State closest to recreating the system. While not yet able to produce a bolt for bolt, circuit for circuit replication, with typical Capellan ingenuity House Liao has developed a stop-gap solution suitable for mass-production, the so-called Stealth Armor. Integrating the heat baffles and required components directly into specially designed armor plating, when linked with a Guardian ECM Suite Stealth Armor replicates its benefits (and disadvantages).<br />
<br />
While the Clans retained the peak of the Terran Hegemony's military technology, the tenets of Clan honor find such stealth systems dishonorable and ceased research and production of the Null Signature System.<br />

=== Game Rules ===<br />
The null signature system features heat baffles that mask the 'Mech's heat sinks and reduce its infrared signature. Attacks against the unit at Medium range receive an additional +1 to-hit modifier, while attacks at Long and Extreme Range receive an additional +2 to-hit modifier. However, the baffles restrict the normal venting of heat, meaning the 'Mech generates an additional 10 points of heat while the system is active. If used in conjunction with an active Chameleon Light Polarization Shield, all modifiers are cumulative. The null signature system also incorporates a phased-array sensor system and a sheathed directional communication beacon. Therefore, a 'Mech with this system may not mount any special Targeting and Tracking Systems (including Targeting Computers, C3 equipment, and C3i equipment) or a Satellite Uplink system.<br />
<br />
The null signature system does not weigh a significant amount, but does take up one critical slot in each of the BattleMech's hit locations except for the head, for a total of seven critical slots. A critical hit to any of these slots will disable the entire system.<br />
