History

The 10th Deneb Light Cavalry was created during the Third Succession War after the destruction of the 9th Deneb Light Cavalry. [1]

The homeworld of the 10th Deneb Light Cavalry is New Avalon. In early 3014 Hanse Davion lead the 34th Avalon Hussars, 10th Deneb Light Cavalry and the Davion Heavy Guards in an attack against the toxic world Halstead Station, attempting to destroy the large Draconis Combine supply depot being built there. The defending 9th Dieron Regulars and 2nd Proserpina Hussars regiments - though failing to stop the destruction of the supply depot - still managed to keep all three AFFS regiments tied up until Takashi Kurita could arrive with the fresh 2nd Sword of Light. The Davion troops successfully withdrew from the planet.[citation needed]

Fourth Succession War

The 10th Deneb Light Cavalry began the Fourth Succession War held in reserve on their then homeworld of Rowe. They first entered action in 3029 when Marshal Sanders, commander of the 10th, moved to reinforce Alpha Regiment of Wolf's Dragoons on Glenmora, where they fought with them against the 5th and 16th Galedon Regulars. While the arrival of the 10th saved the Dragoons, Marshal Sanders was killed in the early fighting, after which Colonel Jaime Wolf declared the 10th honorary Dragoons and assumed command of the unit. [2]In late July the survivors left Glenmora aboard Dragoon dropships and accompanied them to Crossing.[3]

Upon reaching Crossing, Colonel Wolf ordered the 10th to disperse and protect the local population as the Dragoons prepared for the inevitable Combine attack.[4] When the Dragoons found themselves hard pressed by Combine forces in the Tartarus Caldera, two companies of light 'Mechs and a company of assault tanks from the 10th Deneb arrived to reinforce them, buying them enough time for the Dragoon's Zeta Battalion to arrive and turn the tide of battle. This marked the end of the 10th's participation in the Fourth Succession War[5]

It was as a result of their actions during the Fourth Succession War that the wolf's head symbol was added to their unit insignia.

War of 3039

During the War of 3039, the 10th Deneb Light Cavalry, along with the 1st Robinson Rangers and 93rd Mechanized Brigade, was part of a taskforce led by Field Marshal James Sandoval to recapture the important BattleMech producing world of Marduk, lost to Draconis Combine forces during the Fourth Succession War. The AFFS taskforce greatly outnumbered the local militia and a battalion of the 6th Benjamin Regulars defending the world, capturing the planet with relative ease. [6]

Digging in the face of an expected counter attack, AFFS forces outnumbered the remains of the Sixth and 8th Galedon Regulars sent to retake the planet, inflicting heavy losses thanks to the old-school Kurita tactics practiced by both units. Trapping the Combine forces in the remains of a Succession Wars era fort, the Light Cavalry only withdrew when First Prince Hanse Davion recalled the FedCom forces, but not before they stripped machinery and materials from the manufacturers on-world.[7]

FedCom Civil War

During the FedCom Civil War the 10th Deneb Light Cavalry RCT supported Katherine Steiner-Davion.[8] The 10th DLC remained on New Avalon for most of the war. When the Davion Assault Guards and 1st Crucis Lancers landed on the world, the 10th conducted a lightning raid that broke their advance and allowed them to destroy a brigade of troops loyal to Victor.[9] Those two units withdrew to rebuild, and Victor led a task force against the 10th DLC that destroyed them in seven weeks.[10] The Tenth had been deployed in the city of Portsmouth.[11] As Victor was leading the 23rd Arcturan Guards, 6th Crucis Lancers, 10th Lyran Guards, 1st NAIS Cadet Cadre, the Outland Legion, and a battalion of the 1st St. Ives Lancers, the destruction of the 10th DLC wasn't a surprise.[12]
