History

Formation

The Marik Militia brigade was formed in the early twenty-third century as the primary offensive and defensive brigade of the newly-formed Free Worlds League and mustered nineteen regiments in strength when the Star League Council issued the Council Edict of 2650.[1] The Marik Militia then expanded to twenty-eight regiments in strength[1] between 2755 and 2760[2] following the repeal of the Council Edict of 2650.[1]

Star League Era

Like the other regiments of the brigade, the Tenth was dedicated to serving and defending the people of the League, rather than serving the Captain-General, a distinction that separated the Militia from other federal formations such as the Atrean Dragoons and Free Worlds Guards.[1]

The Tenth remained a popular unit with both the commoners within the Free Worlds League and the peerage because of their public dedication to the people of the League, and like the other regiments of the Militia often acted as training grounds for troops across the League. A significant number of the personnel who would serve in other more prestigious federal units and various provincial forces within the League would actually begin their careers in the Tenth or another of the Marik Militia regiments.[1]

During the Star League era the Tenth was one of the most prominent regiments within the Militia; typically operating as shock troops, the Tenth used a wide range of BattleMechs.[1]

Third Succession War

In 3020 the Tenth fought Lyran forces on Callison[3]

Anton’s Revolt

In 3014 the Tenth Marik Militia supported Janos Marik during Anton Marik's revolt. For most of that conflict they were based on Thermopolis.[4] Typically the 10th Marik Militia was equipped with heavy and assault units, with several light companies added to provide some quick strike ability.[5]

Andurien Secession

The Tenth attacked Xanthe III in 3037 as part of the Andurien War.[6] Alongside the 15th Marik Militia they faced the 3rd Defenders of Andurien and the 5th Defenders of Andurien. The Fifth Defenders hit the 15th Marik Militia and destroyed their command cohesion. At this time the Tenth's commander, Samuel Garibaldi took command of all FWLM forces on the world and led them out to a fortified area. Unfortunately the Tenth lost two-thirds of their 'Mechs in that effort.[7] Fortunately, they didn't lose the MechWarriors and this allowed them to rebuild quickly.[5]

Clan Invasion

During the Clan Invasion they were known as the Hammers and the Tenth remained a very skilled unit. The LCCC regarded them as the equal of the 1st Marik Militia and 6th Marik Militia.[8] Prior to the start of the Jihad, they were based on Bernardo.[9]

Operation Guerrero

During Operation GUERRERO the Tenth's commander Colonel Cindy Myer led the FWLM assault on Van Dieman IV. The battle was a hard-fought one with the planet contested until Victor Steiner-Davion ceded the world at the war's end.[5] [10]

Jihad and transformation into a new force

When the Free Worlds League shattered, the Tenth initially obeyed the orders given to them by Corinne Marik, leader of the Marik Commonwealth. She sent them to the Rim Commonality in 3077 to forcibly integrate that small political union into the Commonwealth. On the way to their new station, however, the Tenth received a plea for assistance from Kendall. The Kendalls reported that the Marian Hegemony had attacked and driven the Bad Dream mercenary unit offworld. The Tenth, led by Force Commander Yoshio Kawamura, deposed their leader in a bloodless coup and chose to defend their former countrymen rather than wage war upon them. In the subsequent action against the pirates the Tenth began its new life as a unit devoted to protecting the denizens of their sundered nation.[11] [12]

As of 3079, the Tenth positioned one 'Mech battalion apiece of the regiment on Kendall, Lahti, and Hednesford to dissuade Marian aggression.[11]

Bereft of government support and with unit members leaving for their home provinces, the Tenth began to waste away. Kawamura saved the unit in spirit if not in name by merging his troops with other like-minded and similarly hard-hit commands to form the First Marik Protectors.[12]

Officers

Rank Name Command
Commanding Officers of the 10th Marik Militia
Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Garibaldi 3025[13]
Colonel Symnington Beauregard Lee 3050[14]
Colonel Cindy Meyer 3057 - 3067[5][15]
Colonel Yoshio Kawamura 3077 - c.3080[12]

Tactics

Star League Era

Each company of the Tenth had a specialized role, bar the ninth company, which operated as a catch-all company for whatever role was needed.[1]

Clan Invasion Era

The Tenth Marik Militia was usually used as a shock troop unit, but they were skilled at adjusting their tactics to the behavior of their enemies. For example in one case they used the Case Red Assault Battalion to strike Capellan lines head on, but a few years later they used light 'Mechs to string out and destroy slow moving Lyran forces in a city.[5]
