History

After the Clan invasion, the 23rd fell victim to lapses of the Lyran bureaucracy several times. That was the reason for them to join Victor's side during the FedCom Civil War.[citation needed]

FedCom Civil War

Actions during Operation Scatter

As part of Victor Steiner-Davion's plan to overload LAAF ability to respond, the 23rd Arcturans were assigned to Operation Scatter's planned raids from allied controlled Arc-Royal Defense Cordon. The RCT struck three lightly defended worlds; Aristotle, Gallery, and Thuban with lightning swift raids.

While on Gallery, they struck a nerve with the House Steiner's General of the Armies and acting regent of Lyran Alliance, Nondi Steiner. They struck her estate on Gallery directly, which prompted her, unknown to them, to have 11th Arcturan Guards to "neutralize" them.

On Thuban, the unit had finished its operations and begun to move out when the 11th Arcturan hit one of their combined arms battalions left behind for repairs. The battalions in midst of repairs were destroyed, and setup final confrontation between it sister unit, which turn in to a bloody affair on slopes of Scorpiuus Mons it and its sister unit inflicted considerable amount damage on one another.[1]

Tikonov

The 23rd Arcturans managed to hookup with Victor Steiner-Davion's main task force on route to Tikonov. They arrived on planet in November of 3064. They then helped fight loyalist on planet with Victor's task force. However, the allies suffered series losses from December onward due to Victor being struck with news of the loss of his lover, Omi Kurita. Victor decided to attempt to keeping Tikonov from becoming a possible mass grave decided to pull out, bringing the 23rd Arcturans along with Outland Legion & exComGuard 244th ComGuard Division with him.[citation needed]

The Jihad

Like the other surviving members of the Arcturan Guards, the 23rd formed a part of the Lyran Alliance contribution to Operation SCOUR. Before deploying on the extensive campaign, the 23rd's numbers were bolstered when the remaining elements of the 20th Arcturan Guards who had managed to survive the Word of Blake counterattack at the Ruins of Gabriel were assigned to the 23rd as casualty replacements. This was a boon to the 23rd, who had been doing sterling service as a rapid-response force and who had been constantly undermanned throughout the Jihad. Battling through the Word of Blake Protectorate, the 23rd went on to take part in the assault on Terra, landing as a part of the group responsible for taking Tokyo. The 23rd proved themselves instrumental in the Tokyo campaign, breaching the Castle Brian and destroying a full Level II of Blakist forces as the allied forces moved to take advantage of the breach.[2]

In the wake of SCOUR and the liberation of Terra, the 23rd was the first of the Arcturan Guards units to be rotated back through Arcturus from their combat postings. The 23rd had high hopes of leaving Arcturus as a full-strength RCT, but instead found themselves being rebuilt as one of the new Light Combat Teams before being dispatched to fight on the border between the Lyran Alliance and the Duchy of Tamarind. After a number of clashes with Tamarind units the morale of this elite unit began to suffer, particularly within the ranks of the MechWarriors.[3]
