Description

The Thirtieth Provisional Garrison Cluster was a secondary combat formation utilized as defense force and reinforcements for frontline units of Clan Ghost Bear.

History

Golden Century

The Thirtieth PGC fought on Tokasha as part of the Ghost Bear's Trial of Possession for the planet and factory. They were fighting alongside the Eighty-seventh Assault Trinary and Ourse Keshik when Khan Kilbourne Jorgensson was killed by Clan Hell's Horses.[1]

Late Clan Invasion Era

In 3061, the Thirtieth Provisional Garrison Cluster was stationed on Marawi alongside the Seventeenth PGC.

First Draconis Combine/Ghost Bear War

Despite being a second-line Galaxy, Theta Galaxy took an active part in the First Draconis Combine / Ghost Bear War,[2] which began in 3062 with a suicidal attack by three regiments of the Alshain Avengers against Alshain.[3] As a part of Theta Galaxy, the Thirtieth took part in the assault that captured Courchevel; after the War was resolved with a Trial, the various other contested or occupied worlds were returned to their pre-War affiliations, but the Ghost Bears retained Courchevel as isorla.[2] During the Dominion War, the Thirtieth and their sister Cluster the Seventeenth Provisional Garrison Cluster, were also responsible for the destruction of the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery's Third Ghost Regiment on Marawi.[4]

The Jihad

During the Ghost Bear campaign against the Word of Blake during the Jihad Theta Galaxy was assigned to Beta Wave,[5] which was led by Beta Galaxy.[6] After Beta Galaxy took heavy casualties during the attack on Ascella, an attack that began on the 6th of October 3075[7][8] and which went badly enough to be considered a debacle, the entire of Theta Galaxy - including the Thirtieth - was moved from a supporting role to an offensive role.[5]

Moore

The first attack launched by Theta Galaxy was against the world of Moore on the 21st of July 3076;[9][10] Theta performed poorly during the campaign, taking heavier losses than would be expected.[5]

Pike

Theta Galaxy assaulted Pike IV in September 3076;[9][10] while the attack on Moore had gone poorly, the Pike IV campaign was an even poorer showing on Theta's part. Of particular concern to the Dominion Council was the destruction of the Seventh Phalanx, which was lost after elements of the Thirtieth refused to come to the assistance of the Seventh.[5]

The Dark Age

During the formation of the Republic of the Sphere the Thirtieth was one of four Provisonal Garrison Clusters to be gifted to the Republic and effectively disbanded during the formation of the Republic Armed Forces. The other Provisional Garrison Clusters to be transferred to the Republic alongside the Thirtieth were the Tenth, Thirty-third and Forty-second.[11]

Tactics

The command uses also the smash & grab tactic. The cluster know their terrain well and use the lighter units to lead the enemy into an ambush. The enemy can approach to the target without fight and at the right moment the rest of the unit assaulted from all sides simultaneously.[12]

- At this point the Thirtieth were stationed on Radstadt and were ninety percent of full-strength; approximately seventy percent of the Cluster were equipped with Clan technology, while the remainder were equipped with Star League-era technology; forty percent of the Cluster were equipped with OmniMechs or equivalent technology.[13]

- At this point in time the Thirtieth was stationed on Thorin and had been reduced to just over a third of full strength; just over a third of the Cluster were equipped with OmniMechs or equivalent technology.[14]
