The Third Andurien Rangers were formed from the Ninth Free Worlds Legionnaires during the Jihad.[1]

History
During their formation in 3076 there was a great deal of tension between soldiers from Andurien and those from other parts of the Free Worlds League. The tension threatened to escalate into violence, but Dame Humphries intervened and those soldiers who wished to leave the Rangers were allowed to go without any problems.[1] The remaining members of the Ninth Legionnaires were reassigned to form the Third Andurien Rangers. This battalion of troops split into company sized formations in 3079 to garrison El Giza, Hudeiba, and Mosiro.[1] This deployment was part of the mutual defense treaty signed by the Duchy of Andurien and the Mosiro Archipelago.[2] After the Archipelago merged with the Duchy, the Third Andurien Rangers were gathered to their full battalion size and ordered to garrison Shiro III.
By 3145 they were largely equipped with medium 'Mechs for a good mix of firepower and mobility. They were stationed on Ryerson with the Sixth Andurien Guards. This proximity developed into a friendly rivalry between the two units.[3]
Officers
As of 3085, the commanding officer was Colonel Cassia Faulkers.[4] Colonel Faulkers previously served in the First Free Worlds Legionnaires and was born on El Giza. Her assistance was critical during the merger of the Mosiro Archipelago and the Duchy of Andurien.[2]
In 3145 the commanding officer is Colonel James Cline.[5]
Tactics
The Third Andurien Rangers uses tactics similar to the First Andurien Rangers. The main difference is the heavier weight of the Third's equipment and their preference for long range combat. Where the First will rush into an enemy force to take shots at weaker rear armor, the Third will stand off and use long range fire to destroy their foes.[2]
