History

The 3rd Liao Guards were formed in 2759 at the request of Sigismund Liao, younger brother of Chancellor Barbara Liao. The younger Liao was appointed Colonel and oversaw the construction of a large underground bunker complex to serve as the Third's headquarters.

In 2765 the unit was located on Gan Singh.[1]

First Succession War

During the First Succession War the Third fought the Free Worlds League Military's invasion of the Sarna Commonality. They were highly effective in this role, and forced the FWLM to use nuclear weapons to destroy them.[2]

Reformation

The Third Liao Guards were reformed sometime before Operation GREAT FLOOD as one of the Hidden Lion regiments resurrected by Chancellor Daoshen Liao using stockpiled equipment.[2] The new Liao Guards used the Augmented Regiment formations commonly found in the CCAF by 3145.[3] They were a front-line regiment of the Tikonov Commonality.[4]

Operation GREAT FLOOD

During Operation GREAT FLOOD, the Third Liao Guards landed on Styk, New Canton, and Zion after other CCAF regiments captured the planets. They then hunted down the remaining RAF stragglers and pacified the worlds. They later served as the garrison for the planet Liao soon after its capture and received a victory parade in Cynthiana from an elated public.[2]

Operation CELESTIAL REWARD

The only Liao Guards regiment to participate in Operation CELESTIAL REWARD. The Third Liao Guards were assigned to capture several former ROTS worlds annexed by the Federated Suns.[2] Victorious against the usually ad hoc garrisons found on these planets, the Liao Guards were easily defeated by the defending Third Federated Suns Armored Cavalry on Rio. They would later return to capture the planet after the Third FSAC redeployed to counter the ongoing Draconis Combine invasion.[5]

Officers

Colonel Sigismund Liao was the official leader of the Third Liao Guards in 2765. In reality Major Da Ying Hwang handled most of the Third's combat operations.[1]

Game Rules

The Fourth prefers to disable enemy units rather than destroying them outright, both to capture additional equipment, and to leave the vanquished crews alive to spread word of their prowess. Instead of attacking normally in the Weapon Attack Phase, any Fourth Chargers unit may elect to fire only a single weapon. If the weapon hits, the controlling player may opt to reroll any torso result against a ’Mech or any result against a vehicle that does not generate a roll on the Motive System Damage Table. If the new die result indicates an location blocked by partial cover, the hit is lost.[6]
