History
Founding
Formed in 3041 or early 3042, the Ninth Federated Commonwealth RCT recruited from both the Lyran Commonwealth and Federated Suns halves in an attempt to build loyalty to the Federated Commonwealth as a whole. One of its first missions was to hunt down the pirate Paula Trevaline in the Periphery. The unit lost over nine hundred infantry, a battalion of Armor Vehicles, and two companies of BattleMechs, but succeeded in bringing Lady Death down and bringing her to New Syrtis for trial. The unit was then posted to the world of Kimball II until at least 3050 or was occupying it at the time.[1]
Clan Invasion
The Ninth Federated Commonwealth RCT would take part in the Battle on Twycross in September 3050, where it came under attack from elements of the Jade Falcon Guards Jade Falcon Eyrie Cluster. The Ninth was ordered to move through the Diabolis (Twycross' heavy storms) and hit the Falcons in the flank while the 10th Lyran Guards and Kell Hounds pinned them in place.[2] The presence of the Falcon Guards altered the plan. Soon after the unit withdrew and would undergo rebuilding of some of its units.
Truce of Tukayyid
After the Battle of Tukayyid, the Ninth Federated Commonwealth RCT was reassigned to the Sarna March of the Federated Commonwealth. The unit was ready to reinforce the 3rd Donegal Guards, who were at the time guarding the Tao MechWorks on Styk.[3]
Secession
The Ninth Federated Commonwealth RCT would remain within the Lyran half of the Federated Commonwealth until the succession of the Lyran Alliance. The unit was renamed by order of Katherine Steiner-Davion and became either the 1st Alliance Guard or the 2nd Alliance Guard. The units loyalties seemed questionable and became a repository for personnel of questionable loyalty. Within two years the unit was broken up and their equipment and the more loyal personnel were used to form the core of the new Alliance Jaegers.[4]
Officers
In 3050 the Ninths commander was Hauptmann General Alvin Kimmel.
Tactics
Composition
The unit consisted of:
- 9th FedCom Regiment
- 9th FedCom Armor Brigade
- 9th FedCom Infantry Brigade
Notes
The parade colors of the Ninth, when it was a member of the FedCom Corps, were navy blue with gold banding on the arms and legs of 'Mechs. Gold was also used to highlight panels on the upper torsos of 'Mechs and turrets of armor units, resulting in a checkerboard pattern. After being renamed, the color scheme was changed to a brown and tan paint scheme and replaces the black edging with green edging for the short time the unit was in service.
