The Ninth Rasalhague Regulars were a BattleMech regiment in service to the Draconis Combine.

History

Second Succession War

The Ninth's skill in urban combat was matched during the Second Succession War by a propensity to raze any cities their opponents might be hiding within. Such ruthless devotion to destroying the Combine's enemies earned the unit the nickname "Pride of Rasalhague", while their flagrant disregard for civilian casualties was censored in Combine media.

Third Succession War

The Ninth's aptitude for urban warfare continued throughout the Third Succession War. In 3013 the Ninth Rasalhague Regulars raided Phalan for industrial diamonds used in the manufacture of 'Mech armor. Though they faced the Twenty-second Skye Rangers the Ninth's raid was successful and the Regulars made off with large amounts of diamonds.

In 3025 the unit was stationed on Hyperion.

Fourth Succession War

Hyperion was one of the worlds attacked in the opening wave of Operation GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG, the major Lyran Commonwealth offensive of the Fourth Succession War. The defenders on Hyperion - the Ninth Rasalhague Regulars - were of questionable loyalty, and didn't put up much of a fight when the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces dispatched the Waco Rangers to capture the planet. The Ninth withdrew to Satalice, but in mid-3029, following several months of consolidation in the aftermath of GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG, the Commonwealth went on the offensive again in the Trellshire and Tamar theaters of operation. While a large part of the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces' attention went into trying to win ongoing conflicts on a handful of worlds, seven new planetary assaults were launched. Satalice was one of the worlds attacked, because of the presence of the Ninth. The LCAF dropped Hansen's Roughriders and the Waco Rangers on Satalice, and the two mercenary commands spent several months maneuvering against the Ninth in a campaign marked by good coordination between the mercenary units and their supporting conventional forces. The culmination of the maneuver campaign came when the two mercenary units caught the Ninth in the rich Mizona Valley; keenly aware of the danger of being surrounded and wiped out, the Ninth abandoned Satalice after a race to their DropShips.

In 3030 the Ninth mounted a successful raid upon the Eire MechWorks on Arc-Royal, embarrassing the famed Kell Hounds who were garrisoning the planet. Six weeks later the Kell Hounds staged a reprisal attack upon Ferleiten where the Ninth was based. The Rasalhague Regulars prepared for the raiders by setting ambushes in the planet's cities, but the mercenaries had expected this and instead raided the undefended rural areas. While the Kell Hounds' spoils - Ferleitin's crops - were less valuable than the 'Mechs the Ninth had taken, both units had proven themselves canny fighters.

Ronin War

The Ninth Rasalhague Regulars were stationed on Ferleiten when they received orders from Warlord Marcus Kurita on the 20th of March 3034 to deploy to Engadin. The Ninth duly departed Ferleiten, arriving in the Engadin system and launching their planetary assault on the 31st of March. The Ninth completed the transit to Engadin in two days, launching a surprise assault that captured the planetary HPG and killed half of the ComStar staff stationed there in the process. The Ninth's Third Battalion then deployed to Yonkers, the planetary capital city, and interrupted a speech being given by Jorges Harkon, the newly designated Valdherre, ordering him to cease and desist. When Harkon refused, Tai-sho Pershing ordered the Third Battalion to fire on the building, which collapsed, killing most of the newly appointed planetary officials; Pershing then imposed martial law and declared a curfew throughout the city.

In June 3034 the Dragon's vengeance hit the Ninth Rasalhague Regulars, in the form of the Second Genyosha, who launched an attack in the first week of the month that caught the Ninth by surprise. Deploying from merchant DropShips operated by a "concerned businessman", the Genyosha achieved complete surprise, leveling the Ninth's barracks with a long-range artillery barrage before the Ninth were even aware of their presence on the planet. As the Ninth tried to mobilize the Genyosha launched air strikes that destroyed the Ninth's command and control center, leaving the Ninth in a highly disorganized state. Having operated under radio silence from the beginning of their operation, the Genyosha continued to maintain that radio silence as they hunted the Ninth for a week even as the rebel command scattered. The Genyosha showed no mercy, hunting down every unit from the Ninth; by the end of the week the Ninth had been destroyed and the HPG compound had been liberated. The Genyosha then remained on Engadin until the arrival of a regiment from the Second Freemen and the appointment of a new Valdherre to replace the deceased Jorges Hakon.
