The Alcyone system is home to at least one habitable world or construct and as at 3145 was located in the Sirdar Operational Area of the Capellan March within the Federated Suns.[2][3]

System History

The Alcyone system has been inhabited since at least 2306; it was during early 2306 that groups of pirates from Kluane who had been raiding Capellan Hegemony border worlds during the war fought between the Hegemony and the Sarna Supremacy were defeated in a decisive naval victory. That victory was only possible because forces from the St. Ives Mercantile League and the Chesterton Trade Federation had entered the conflict in support of the Hegemony.[4]

During the years between the defeats suffered by the Federated Suns over worlds such as Beten Kaitos and Emerson in 2321 and Lucien Davion's retirement in 2332, other worlds with important resources—such as Alcyone—came into dispute. Federated Suns forces were pushed off-world,[5] most probably by forces from the St. Ives Mercantile League, as Alcyone was affiliated with the Mercantile League when the Capellan Confederation came into being in 2367.[6]

The information after this notice comes from apocryphal sources; the canonicity of such information is uncertain.
Please view the reference page for information regarding their canonicity.

According to the apocryphal writeup for Duke Leopold Ransom of Alcyone in BattleTechnology #0101, p. 4 ("Hiring Hall"), the world Alcyone was discovered by Captain Alfred Daniels of the Terran Survey Ship Seeker in 2214 and named after his daughter Alcyone Daniels.

The system, although commonly referred to as Alcyone after its primary inhabited planet, is in fact called Alsun or Al's Sun by the natives, and listed in navigational ephemerides as "NSC E 4-008, 332". The planet Alcyone is thus formally Alsun II.

The planet Alcyone is rated earthlike, described to feature a terrestrial ecosystem and standard nitrogen-oxygen atmospere. The given population as of 3027 amounts to several hundred million inhabitants.

Raided several times by Capellan Confederation warfleets, Alcyone suffered heavy destruction including several cities that were never rebuilt during the first and second succession wars and is marginally self-sufficient as of 3027. Most notably, it features the Hobson-Redeye factory outside of the capital city of Gratura which manufactures core assemblies for medium and large lasers.
