Unit Description

The unit was a Combined Arms Armor and Infantry formation that was in service of the Outworlds Alliance on Ramora.

History

Formation

The Alliance Borderers and their sister regiment, the Alliance Grenadiers, were formed during the Reunification War, primarily from salvage obtained from Star League forces or equipment purchased covertly from Federated Suns sources. The Borderers formed in late 2582 on Alpheratz and first saw combat during the battles for Lushann, where the Borderers fought alongside the Pitkin Lancers, 3rd Armored Division and 4th Armored Division against the SLDF V Corps, preventing the Star League from conquering this important industrial world during the Star League invasion of the Outworlds Alliance.[1]

Star League Era

By 2765 the Borderers were still using older captured SLDF machines. They could do so because their technical staff turned using retired equipment into an art form. In 2765 they were based on Eigerland.[2]

Succession Wars

In 3025 the Borderers were distributed across the worlds of Ramora, Coraines and Mitchella, acting as a quick reaction force against external aggressors; while the Borderers were a single regiment, each Alliance world maintained between two and four battalions of militia forces, and the Borderers were still a 3-battalion strong regiment, giving them one additional battalion over their sister regiment, the Grenadiers.[3]

The Borderers were still broken into battalions and assigned to Ramora, Coraines and Mitchella in 3050.[4]

Border Raid of 3071

In late 3071, the unit was warned that Ramora was about to be raided. House Davion's mercenary unit, the Screaming Eagles, had deployed three Battalions worth of BattleMechs to attack the planet. The Borderers defended, along with a Clan Snow Raven trinary from the 6th Battle Cluster. The Borderers were heavily damaged (and their Clan allies destroyed) in course of battle. [5][6] During the late 3070s the Borderers were stationed on Mitchella and Banori.[6]

In 3085, the unit had rebuilt and was assigned to garrison Brasha.[7]

Officers

Rank Name Command
Commanding Officers of the Alliance Borderers
Chairman Uriah Jum 3025[3]
Chairman Fitzroy Candly 3050 - 3067[4][8][9][10]
Chairman Ross Hibler 3085[7]
Chairman Raulo Sergivich 3145[11]

Tactics

In 3025, the Borderers were effective when operating alongside BattleMech troops, but relied on superior infantry and armor tactics to win if faced with superior firepower.[3]

Notes

The unit was equipped with a Clan Oro Heavy Tank in its Command Battalion. The unit Chairman managed to have unit's equipment updated with double heat sinks and extended range lasers on its vehicles.[16]

The unit's formation is unclear, however the earlier Field Manual: Periphery does not list the Alliance Borderers whilst Field Manual: Updates does.

Historical: Reunification War indicates on page 42 that the Alliance Borderers received their baptism of fire on Cerberus, against the Star League 4th Division and 5th Division. However, this is contradicted by other entries within the same book for the battles on Cerberus and the unit deployment tables, which indicate that the Borderers fought on Lushann, and that the Alliance Grenadiers fought on Cerberus. This has been raised as errata on the official Catalyst Game Labs forum.[1][17][18]

Rules

Reunification War

  • When randomly generating forces each Alliance Borderer lance or platoon may roll for equipment twice on the SLDF table and once on the Federated Suns table.[19]
