Planetary History

Altenmarkt is currently locked in an ice age.[48]

Fourth Succession War

Altenmarkt was one of the worlds invaded by the Lyran Commonwealth during Operation GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG, the major Lyran Commonwealth offensive of the Fourth Succession War. Altenmarkt was a target of the follow-up exploitation phase that followed the first wave of attacks; the exploitation phase was initiated following orders from Archon Katrina Steiner on the 21st of October 3028,[22] and Altenmarkt was invaded by the Twenty-third Arcturan Guards RCT.[21] Despite the Twenty-third's success on Altenmarkt, the DCMS launched counterattacks across a number of worlds in December 3029 and January 3029, and one of the worlds the Combine recaptured was Altenmarkt.[49]

In mid-3029, following several months of consolidation in the aftermath of GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG, the Lyran Commonwealth went on the offensive again in the Trellshire and Tamar theaters of operation. While a large part of the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces' attention went into trying to win ongoing conflicts on a handful of worlds, seven new planetary assaults were launched. Altenmarkt was one of the worlds attacked, because of the presence of a DCMS BattleMech regiment on the planet, the Fifth Rasalhague Regulars. Even before the Twenty-third returned to Altenmarkt, the Fifth found themselves under siege; despite being determined to hold onto Frosha, a small continent on Altenmarkt that was home to the planet's political and industrial centers, the Fifth was caught up in a terrorist campaign launched by the Tyr underground movement in May 3029. When the Twenty-third landed in June, they received great support from the local population, and the combination of a strong enemy task force and a lack of support from the population left the Fifth in a difficult position. The Fifth fought until December, doing as much as it could, before being recalled by Coordinator Takashi Kurita, leaving the planet in Lyran hands.[23]

Clan Invasion

In February 3052 Altenmarkt came under attack from the Thirteenth Wolf Guards as part of Clan Wolf's Fifth Wave of Operation Revival. At the time the planet was defended by the First Altenmarkt 'Mech Regiment and the First Altenmarkt Brigade, the latter of which was easily destroyed during the first battle at Kokstad. The Altenmarkt 'Mechs however were harder to destroy, using their knowledge of the planet's terrain to avoid destruction for several days and waging a second battle at Senekal. They were finally defeated in the final battle at Mydenburg when their commanding officer was killed by the Wolf Spiders.[50]

In 3063, after much preparation the 4th Kavalleri launched a raiding campaign into Clan Wolf's Occupation Zone. Their mission objective was to resupply resistance cells within Clan Wolf's space. The Kavalleri first struck Altenmarkt, where they resupplied several resistance cells on planet while beating elements of the Altenmarkt Solahma Garrison Binary and dodging elements of the 1st Wolf Assault.[51]
