The Artru system was the location of at least one mining world with orbital habitats,[1] and as of 2767 was located in the Brinton Union of the Taurian Concordat.[2] As of ca. 3026, it was considered a relatively unimportant system notable mainly for being a travel link to the Explorer Corps rimward branch headquarters in the Hellespont system.[1]

System Description[edit]

The Artru system is located roughly midway between the Argos[3] and Katinka systems.[4]

System History[edit]

The Artru system was either colonized during the Star League era at some point after the end of the Reunification War or was an already-inhabited system that became significant enough to be recorded on maps by Inner Sphere nations during this period.[4][5] Artru last appeared on a 3022 map that showed it to be part of the Aurigan Coalition,[6] a political entity itself teetering on the brink of collapse at the time,[7] and vanished from maps afterwards,[8][9][10][11][12][13][14] indicating that it had either been abandoned, depopulated, or rendered too insignificant to merit further recording.

Planetary History[edit]

The planet Artru is a barren, icy rock, too dangerous for permanent habitation and with almost nothing of value.[1] Nevertheless, as of ca. 3026 it was described to possess orbital habitats and massive industrial mining facilities on rocky outcrops along the equator producing platinum, ruthenium, and some rarer exotics. These were manned by a token staff who only stay for month-long shifts.

According to the apocryphal BattleTech (Video Game), Artru is home to the ruins of a Star League Defense Forces 'Outpost' Castle known as Castle Nautilus. The Castle had a large armory full of LosTech. Artru has two moons, and is orbited by a few hab stations. One of those stations, Nassau Heights, was the birthplace of Darius Oliveira. The people of Artru had a tale about a foul wind they called "the Locura". The Locura would flow through the world's wastes, messing with the systems of the miners' ships and destroying them.[53]

In 3025, a mercenary lance led by Lady Kamea Arano found Castle Nautilus thanks to the SLDF maps in the Argo's secondary storage. Shortly after the Argo entered orbit, the Taurian DropShip Iberia took off from the planet's second moon. When the lance landed near the Castle, the ship's engineer, Farah Murad, tried to open the Outpost Castle's gates by hacking its Memory Core with her Advanced Electronic Codebreaker. She accidentally activated the Castle's defense systems and found an ancient electronic virus that ravaged their DropShip's systems. After dealing with the virus and the defenses, Kamea entered the SLDF base, finding a large amount of SLDF Royal BattleMechs, including an Atlas II. Shortly after that, the Iberia landed on the planet and attacked her forces. Kamea, alongside a group of three MechWarriors who came from one of the House Karosas-owned Leopards she brought with her, were forced to fight their way out of Artru. After their escape ship was destroyed by the Iberia, Kamea's group was forced to get on the Argo's own Leopard, which they used to escape the planet and the remaining Taurian forces. Shortly after leaving the Castle, Yang Virtanen detonated several thousand tons of high-explosives inside the place, destroying the Outpost Castle and its riches to keep them from falling into the Taurians' hands.[54]

Notes[edit]

  • The tensions between the Taurian Concordat and the Aurigan Coalition that precipitated the Aurigan Directorate coup and the Arano Restoration were reportedly sparked by Aurigan overtures to four former (but long-since abandoned) Taurian holdings. The four systems in question are named in the House Arano (The Aurigan Coalition) sourcebook[56] as Aea, Regis Roost, Qalzi, and Katinka; however, official errata have since clarified that the Regis Roost system was undiscovered at the time, and was mentioned in error. Given its location on the map relative to the other three systems and that it used to be a Taurian system but was mapped as an Aurigan system as of 3022[6] it seems likely that Artru was the fourth system, instead of Regis Roost.
