The Battlemech Self Destruct is a technique of MechWarriors who intend to destroy the 'Mech they are piloting. This can be accomplished my several means, such as pulling the engine control circuit boards, which usually causes the engine to overload in approximately 30 seconds, and explode. This is a very crude method however, and is not always successful, as the engine may just shutdown instead. Another way to self destruct a 'Mech is by means of a self destruct device. This device is fitted to the engine, and when triggered, dumps all remaining fuel into the engine and overrides the safeties resulting in an engine overload. The third way of self destructing a 'Mech is explosives, it does not rely on a 'Mechs engine to deliver the explosion, and is a more popular technique among lighter 'Mechs as it provides more bang for your buck, so to speak. This is usually achieved by means of attaching remote explosive charges to ammunition bins, or by simply packing tons of high explosives into the internals of the 'Mech (to the great displeasure of the technician) and will usually yield a blast much greater than an engine explosion, and is very popular among guerrillas who have captured 'Mechs that they know they wont be allowed to keep very long.
