Mission Statement

Jihad Turning Points: New Avalon is the second mission target of the Unfinished Book project. Like the initial UBP mission (Jihad Turning Points: Luthien), this mission will be conducted to further develop the UBP concept, with a focus on the teamwork aspect.

Mission Lead's Comments

“ Hello, UBP teammembers and observers. I have personally completed my Research Writer role for the first mission and have ideas on how to improve the teamwork for the project as a whole, which I intend to test out here.

First off, I see a real need to separate the roles of fact checker and research writer, so that when the writer steps into the project, he sees it not with the first pair of eyes, but the 2nd. Instead, the fact checker reads through the section's focus and, in essence, 'assigns' articles to the writer to complete. As the writer himself gets into the material, he may identify additional articles that need to be addressed, but now he'll be following a different person and seeing it with fresh eyes. The fact checker will still go back thru and ensure the material was all covered, but now has a vanguard role to fill. The copy editor's role is unchanged.

However, before these additional roles can launch on this project, I need to develop a working checklist method from which the three team members work. My working idea now is that there will be a sub-page for each section assignment, which is the Mission Lead's responsibility to build. On that sub-page, the fact checker reports in, building a list of article links (some blue, some red), based on the subject material addressed in that assigned section. The writer then clicks on each links, provides the writing each page needs and then reports completion. The fact checker then reads behind the writer, suggesting areas that need tweaking or additional information added. Finally, the copy editor follows behind both, adjusting the article to meet the Manual of Style.

One change: the {{WikiProject UnfinishedBook}} tag will now only be placed on articles that are started/created by this project. The writer will add {{WikiProject UnfinishedBook|tr=new}} to the discussion page of new articles and when the copy editor has completed his review, he will change the tag to {{WikiProject UnfinishedBookCompleted}}. These tags will not be added to pre-exisiting articles (unless they are completly re-vamped, with all previous material deleted in favor of the project's efforts).

Okay, so now I'm off to build these sub-pages for this mission. From this, we'll further develop the skills necessary to really get the Unfinished Book project rolling.
