How to Progress

Here are a few of my thoughts on how to make progress. I will sign each section so others can reply. Note these are only my thoughts! If you think you have a better idea, by all means set it out! Talvin (talk) 12:39, 5 March 2022 (EST)

Clear Path

Some of the Orphans have a clear path forward. "Clear" does not always mean "simple and easy", but at least we know what to do:

Planetary Governors

Planetary Governors: We need to get these associated with the relevant planets. The ones remaining, the planets don't have the updated infobox. It's tedious, but doable.--Talvin (talk) 12:39, 5 March 2022 (EST)
DONE! --Talvin (talk) 22:21, 5 March 2022 (EST)

General Staff Officers

General Staff Officers: These should be listed with their respective commands. For some, the Command page doesn't exist. For others, the "Command" is a section of a page that is already too long. We need to work with Project Military Commands to figure some of these out.--Talvin (talk) 12:39, 5 March 2022 (EST)

Battles

Battles: The remaining Battle Pages need attention from someone who has the appropriate sources, including but not limited to getting them linked in from the appropriate commands and locations. --Talvin (talk) 12:39, 5 March 2022 (EST)

Noble Houses

Noble Houses is related to work that Dmon is doing. If it interests you, chat him up and ask how you can help!--Talvin (talk) 12:39, 5 March 2022 (EST)

We Need To Be Creative, Here

The path forward on these is not quite as clear. How can we fit these into the wiki? --Talvin (talk) 12:39, 5 March 2022 (EST)

Fiction

Fiction: I know that BrokenMnemonic is trying to find places for some of these. Is there a BattleCorps page they could be listed on? Should we make one? --Talvin (talk) 12:39, 5 March 2022 (EST)

Food and Drink

Food and Drink: We don't have a clear menu of choices, here. (Tip your server, I'm here all week.) What is a good way to "adopt" orphans like this? --Talvin (talk) 12:39, 5 March 2022 (EST)

Deandra Lowe's Rides

Deandra Lowe's Rides: This one is tough. A list of ships, mostly civilian, who have only in common that a covert agent was a passenger. Unlike Military vessels, Civilian ships don't easily find a "home" in BTW. Ideas? --Talvin (talk) 12:39, 5 March 2022 (EST)

Medical

Medical: Not a long list, and different solutions may be required for each one. Thoughts? --Talvin (talk) 12:39, 5 March 2022 (EST)
CLEARED!--Talvin (talk) 12:15, 15 March 2022 (EDT)

Relies on Other Projects

Astronomy, Planets, Systems

Astronomy Orphans: Is there someone from Projects Planet and Systems that could advise on how to link these in? Who would you recommend? --Talvin (talk) 12:39, 5 March 2022 (EST)
I'll call to Volt. See if he can provide some guidance. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 18:36, 5 March 2022 (EST)
With a little advice from Volt, this is CLEARED!--Talvin (talk) 11:28, 23 March 2022 (EDT)

Commands and Spacecraft

Orphaned Commands: A motley mix of spacecraft with no clear attachment (if that needs to go elsewhere, no objections!), Faction units, Mercenary Units (lots!), and Solaris Stables. This crosses a few other Projects. Who would be a good point of contact to resolve some of these? --Talvin (talk) 12:39, 5 March 2022 (EST)

Technology

Technology Orphans: This gets sticky. Three projects, Infantry Weapons, Technology, and GameRules, appear to need a joint consensus on how certain types of pages are going to be presented. For many of the "orphans" in this class, assigning them to a "home" is complicated by this current lack of consensus. Since I started this, I have been parking these and awaiting better guidance. --Talvin (talk) 12:39, 5 March 2022 (EST)

Major Consensus Required

All the phonebook entries:

Taken together, these pages have between two and three thousand orphaned pages that are characters that got brief mentions in one or two sourcebooks--a significant percentage of the Wiki's articles. A (rough) average of ten are added each day. Any solution we come up with would affect the entire Wiki, and require massive editor-hours to implement.

In order to keep this space clear for general matters, I request that any debate about what to do with the Phone Book Orphans take place at BattleTechWiki talk:Project Orphanage/Wolf's Dragoons Roster and not here. Thank you.

Senators of the Republic of the Sphere

See BattleTechWiki:Project_Orphanage/Other_Unit_Orphans#Senate_of_the_Republic_of_the_Sphere

Here's a little project that (hopefully) we can get done. We have a partial list of Senators of the Republic of the Sphere. The Senate has no page of its own, and the Republic of the Sphere page is badly lacking for citations. It's "thirty to forty individuals" according to that page. For now, let's work on getting the office pages made, and the officeholders linked to them. That will keep them out of the Orphans but it will leave them in a "bubble".

QUESTION
Where should the Senator offices of the Republic of the Sphere be linked from?

Here's the list of existing Senate positions: Senator of Augustine, Senator of Fomalhaut, Senator of Ozawa, Senator of Park Place, Senator of Skye
And here is the list of "Orphan" Senators: Bran Tucci of Rio, Caressa Tarn-Manoj of Acamar, Hermann Colgar of Vega, Hwrang Onataki of Ashio, Jennifer Vasquez of New Kyoto, Ross Kain of (not stated), Shay Lantan of Tigress
I will spend the odd few minutes here and there creating the Senator Office pages, others are welcome to join in. And please give thoughts on how to link them in from the rest of the Wiki! --Talvin (talk) 20:47, 13 March 2022 (EDT)

David Lear, while not an Orphan page, is also a Senator. I am going to take some of this to the Republic of the Sphere page.--Talvin (talk) 11:05, 15 March 2022 (EDT)
HOLD
Talk:Senator_of_Augustine needs to get settled first.--Talvin (talk) 11:15, 15 March 2022 (EDT)
