History[edit]
Early Career[edit]
Early in his career Taft was a Mustang officer within the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns under First Prince Harrison Davion, and during his time as a Major in the Davion Brigade of Guards, it was reputed that he had even won an argument over tactics with the First Prince.[4]
Draconis Reach[edit]
In June 3140, the the Major General Taft was based on Glenmora with the Fourth Davion Guards under the command of Marshal Harmon Forrest, and participated in the Battle of Glenmora against the invading Draconis Combine employed Wolf's Dragoons.[3]
Draconis Combine Invasion[edit]
Taft, with the Fourth Davion Guards, was based on Pattonsbrug as of 3145.[1] Only recently withdrawn from the Draconis Reach in December 3143 for rest and refit, after being pushed out of the Reach by the Wolf's Dragoons[5], Taft and the Fourth were stranded on Pattonsbrug with limited communication with Davion High Command by the tasking of their JumpShips for Operation MANDRAGORA only one Jump from the Draconis Combine's encroaching borders.[6]
Once Taft received word from a passing JumpShip of the Palmyra Disaster, he commenced evacuating his unit piecemeal back towards New Avalon as he could obtain transport, though this resulted in the unit being spread over a wide number of systems. Only a single Company made in back to New Avalon in time to be destroyed during its conquest by the Combine, and the remaining elements were not able to reunited again on Pattonsbrug until 3150. Following this herculean labor, General Taft suffered a massive heart attack, and was medically retired over his strong objections.[2]
